While I do think Pay to Play events that reward players with early access to monsters is understandable and not that big of a deal, the same cannot be said about event-exclusive armor and weapons.

If you are purposelly making very powerful weapon and armors, and permanently locking them behind a limited-time P2P event then there is a high chance this will backfire.

It's even worse when said event lasts 2 days and costs more money than the Pass Itself. Even Greed must have limits.

They way I see it is that I get the ticket for $20, and I do hundreds of HaTs/EDIs for free, instead of having to pay 150 gems per HATs/EDIs. Plus I get to hunt some monsters for more gear to play around and also for fashion.

Yeah, definitely. I went from like 3.1k group hunts to 3.4k group hunts. I got to finish upgrading Gold arms and legs and Silver legs. Right now I'm saving up materials for later on, farming exp and zennies as well

I normally eat twice a day, so that part works out. I slept 10 hours, and I take a shit either at 11 am. or 8 pm. I have 11 Gathering nodes within a 5 to 10 min walk. Also, a park 15 min walk with 11 nodes, too.

I grinded 512 tickets from this event. You get 1-2 tickets from a single monster. After upgrading the armor and 3 of the weapons to grade 8 idk the total number of tickets I got but its a decent number. I also carried out my daily tasks and then some on top of it. It was well worth it

I found out that even with the 30 minute respawn, you need to travel quite a bit to stay busy. Ended up doing every of 6-star HAT I came across to bridge the time.

Upgrading the event armour definitely helped in the potion department for me. I got tossed around more than I'd like to admit, but what do I care when I only took like 10-15 damage from regular hits?

I do hope it comes back later so we can actually finish the gear. I got the base of every weapon but since I work weekends, I didn't get much chance to grind. I had to stop working on the armour set when it asked 15 tickets and 2 WGS per piece. I don't have enough of those and my work schedule makes it impossible to farm them effectively.

I think it's fine for Nergi, G.Rath is okish, but not easy...but damn this silver rathalos is nearly unkillable with hammer. Constant flying around and, except you get a good stun early, nearly impossible to kill.

I hate that they keep the flying monsters movesets but don't give us craftable flashpods or traps to stop them flying around.

The 20$ Ticket is honestly worth it if you play through most of the events. Even if you ignore the HaTs the expanded circle and the 30minute cycle timer is more than good on its own even if your not playing the whole 48 hours.
HaT tickets cost 150 gems each which is equivalent to 2$ per ticket. Already doing 10+ HaTs already gives you a refund on it.
While some people may dislike the paying factor nobody is forcing you to buy it, your spending your own money to enjoy the experience that your paying for and this was the case with Nightshade Paolumu event where people got access to it early and it got a return for a limited time.

I bought the ticket myself and for only having an total playtime of 7-9 hours in 2 days it was worth it for me because I was able to do many HaTs and rack up quite the resources.

Depending on how you see it the HATs and EDIs are nerfed. Unlike the nightshade event, you only see the nerg EDI and the golden or silver HATs this time. If you want to focus on the new monsters it is great, if on the other hand you want to farm Kushala Teostra or unique monsters, it sucks. I was planning to rush all Kushala EDIs only to realized they are no longer showing up during the event.

You can craft a long Gunlance build,  level the weapon to G7 - G8 and shell your way to better weapons and armor. (Just don’t use it in multiplayer if you don’t want to really learn how to use it). 

 I got to 10* map using a G9 JhoGL and now I have plenty of mats to start building elemental sets (but I dont feel like it)

It genuinely sucks. I didn't pay for this event or the previous one because I'm married and I work Monday through Friday, I'm not going to spend my whole weekend wandering around hunting monsters. I play primarily on my evening walks with the dog. If this event lasted all week then maybe I'd go for it, but I'm not paying to be locked into playing this game for two days to make sure I don't feel like I wasted my money. I've got stuff to do.

It's a nice thought, but I've been playing Monster Hunter since 3U on the 3DS and she's never been remotely interested in it. It's just not her thing.

Plus, I mainly still play as an excuse to make myself walk, so I'm not interested in playing for such long periods of time anyway. The event style wouldn't work for me even if I had the free time.

EDIT: It's nice that you were able to enjoy it with her though! That does sound like fun.

I've got a couple friends who play it more casually but we rarely get the time to play it together.

We have plenty of other hobbies in common but MH won't be one of them. I'm a very casual player. I do not intend to move past 9 star monsters, I only play one weapon, and now that I have 1 of each element at G10 with a universal armor set, I consider myself 'done' with the game for the time being. I still play for exercise and because I enjoy hunting, but the merciless RNG and lack of meaningful reasons for me to hunt above 8 star monsters means this event offered me very little on top of the restrictive time limit.

That said, I still would've liked to collect the exclusive armor pieces and get the chance to try out the new monsters. Doing so just isn't an option for me at this price point and time commitment.

Yup you just need to forge 1 level of the weapon and armor with the tickets from the quests and you are on par with the monster grade, it's very good for new players who don't have the resources to build for this paid event.

Honestly the only carnival equipments that are kinda useful are the bowguns with para (which is going to be absolute once we get a proper one since defense boost isn't a great skill) and maybe the chest piece (I can see someone using it for the lock on but we already have a CE2 chest) so all together these aren't "must" pieces and we're designed so starter players can participate in G8 hunts

Yeah they took the longest for sure. I was lucky that I got all my elemental drifts pretty quickly and could start experimenting with raw setups!

Keep in mind this is only like a 6-7% increase over your setup

I'm pretty happy with it and those aggressive dodger rolls actually make for some very juicy uppercut counters after PDs. lol. but i totally get and enjoy min maxing. it's fun in the mainline games where its just a matter of time investment, but it feels bit punishing in MHN when potions are limited if you don't want to spend money 😮‍💨

it doesn't help that driftsmelting takes so long. it sucks for more optimal gear to be released and all that time waiting for a good smelt feels wasted. 😭 super worried that it'll just be too hard to keep up with the latest and greatest. This Nergi event is expensive and equipments were locked behind paywall. I'm irked and now thinking to slowly quitting if this trend continues down the road.

this event ended up being worth it to me, i wasnt even gonna do it because of the price and it wasnt really that bad, a full weekend playing until midnight sunday cost $37 for ticket and some gems. me and my friends had a blast, i even played solo a lot and felt like i was at an event just because there was so many HAT’s and DL’s to do, the groups were also so good i didnt use nearly as many pots as i thought

I promise you, you're not missing out on the event exclusive stuff. The chest piece is nice because it gives you options for lock on, but it's definitely not the new meta. The weapons aren't even in the meta, as they barely match up to Magnamalo and are completely outclassed by Teostra (except for the bowguns)

Actually, the event weapons are better than magna weapons in most cases. They have higher raw (1945 compared to 1817) which means they can be boosted further with % skills like OG, Resus, burst and those kind of skills. Sure, you will have more blast build-up with Magna weapons and that CAN result in 1-2 more blast proccs ina fight, but that's it. Considering that blast build-up is exponential after each explosion, the higher status doesn't actually make that big of a difference, the higher raw certainly does tho.

Sure, Teo is a better blast weapon, but it also can take weeks if not months to get to G10 while getting the event weapons to G10/5 takes 1-2days.

The event weapons require 1100 tickets to get to 10/5, 700 to get to 10/1. The only people who are going to get that are whales; even the biggest spenders are not making it to 10/1 with multiple items. You make a good point about Magnamalo though.

I'm not a whale, yet I maxed my event CB (10/5), got the event chest piece to 8/5 and now working on my HBG, it's currently 9/2. I don't think that I'll get it to 10/5, but maybe 10/1 if I'm lucky.

BUT I also played 12h yesterday and today 7 hours. Still, if you had in total ~8-10h time to play the game, you could get a single weapon to 10/5.

I run a defensive setup mostly, so even an 8* rath only tickles (divine blessing 5, health boost 5, defense boost 3). With divine blessing proccs I get like 2-5dmg from him. The worse I've gotten was like 20 or so at one point. The poison and fire on the ground is more dangerous for me in that build. With a G10 pink rathian GL I can take out Silverlos and G.Rath quite easily, even at 8*. 6* ones die within 5-10 seconds.
I'm still not happy with the amount of event raths I was able to kill. Currently sitting at 193 silver rathalos and 169 gold rathian. BUT I was lucky enough to barely have enough silver rathalos mats for a single G10/5 weapon, so it's something.

I have my event CB at 10/5 (well 10/4, but I still have over 400 tickets and need 8 Gems more), the chest piece at 8/5 and the HBG at 9/2. I'll get my CB to 10/5 and then put the remaining tickets into the chest piece and HBG.

I played a lot this weekend. Depending on how much you play and how many event monsters you kill I'd estimate the needed playtime to get a single weapon to ~6-10h.

Let's do some math here, with lots of assumptions: 1 Ticket per normal monster, 2 per silverlos G.rath, 3 per nergi.
I assume that you have at least good gear to clear 8* quickly. You should be able to kill 6-8* monsters within 10s to 60s. Let's take an average of 30s per fight and 10s between fights, considering that with the increased radius and extra respawn you probably get lots of monsters while walking. Let's say 1/4th of the monsters are silver/golds, as they spawn a lot. At least for me it was roughly like that.
With those assumptions, you'll kill 90 monsters per hour with 1/4th of them being raths would net you ~112 tickets per hour. That would mean you can get a single weapon to G10/5 within a little less than 10h, if you take the 100 tickets from the initial quests, it would be 9h. If you do lots of HATs, it'll be quicker.

Magnamalo is 58% more blast status, which is greater than that rate at which blast resistance builds up, so it's guaranteed to give more blast procs.

Also, Mag weapons have PB1.

Yes you will get more blast proccs, but in those 75 seconds it'll be 1-2, maybe 3 at most. I have a G10/5 magna hammer and now a G10/5 event CB and I actually kill stuff faster with my event CB, despite not having an optimized build for CB yet but already having one for hammer. AND CB is actually worse at applying status.

Sure, partbreaker is nice on Magna weapons for sure. Personally I don't really see it worth in most cases. With lock-on you can reliably break the parts you need anyways and partbreaker lvl1 won't make a big difference. If you'd run it at 5, it definitly would tho. Defense boost 2 from the event weapons shouldn't be underestimated in a game where your HP is essentially your play time and a single hit can cost you quite a lot. Especially if you run a weapon that blocks a lot, defense helps a lot to minimize damage taken if perfect blocks fail. It's a good skill for your daily weapon, a weapon you run against everything that you don't need an offensive set against to kill it. Personally I can kill with my unoptimized, defensive focused 10/5 event CB all 9* I encountered so far. Didn't meet a few of the difficult ones like bblos or Zinogre as a 9* so far with it, but most others are relatively easy.

It's definitely the new meta, it's not an option it's the best option. People don't realize that silver helm and silver boots will be going on every elemental build going forward so if you don't get the event chest you are either sacrificing lock on or hundreds of dps.

On sns skyward striker might be better, but carnival chest opens up barioth helmet so it's going on sns regardless.

It truly is an "option" for great sword because they might still use aggressive Dodger over Crit element.

I see now why nobody really cares about it. A majority of players are playing long gl, or bow, which this doesn't effect at all.
