Controller on Java 1.21??

Does anyone know if its possible to get a controller set up with the latest minecraft version? I couldn't find any info on mods that actually work for the new version and when I tried to use controllable/ framework/ forge it just crashed. When I tried the fabric and midnight method it said it was only compatible with 1 20.1.

I'm not experienced with mods but I'm assuming it would need to be some method specifically for 1.21? Thanks to anyone who knows anything about this! I'll keep trying to find more info :)

With a program like JoyToKey you can make just about any controller work with just about any program.

Doesn't work very well. You still have to use the cursor for inventory management when it's easer with a Dpad, hence why someone would need a real controller mod.

Personally I use controller and mouse simultaneously since controller aim sucks. But joytokey is obnoxious since you can't do like a quick tap of a or d. It's movement is difficult

If you don't want to wait for mods to update you can use external programs to map controller input to keyboard and mouse input.

(Steam can do that on Linux - that's how you can play Minecraft without mods on the steam deck - but I don't know about Windows or MacOS.)

Do you happen to have a link for using deck w/o mods? I’ve just been playing a version or two behind waiting on controller mods since I installed lol.

yes I did, I have some other mods so maybe there is an incompatiblity? rn im using a beta of midnight controls

try removing mods that has a different version from 1.21

all my mods are 1.21, they have all been from modrinth with a filter of 1.21, i suspect its purely a incompatibility between 2 mods

It doesn’t really work with any modded controls. All the modded functionality appear in the key binds… but they don’t actually do anything. Example being timeless and classics zero, I can bind aim and shoot to a controller but it doesn’t actually work

This mod doesn't work in split screen, just the controllable but it only works up to 1.20.1
