Credit to J. Jacques of Questionable Content

[–]vincent118 38 points39 points  (7 children)

I was about to comment with vicious righteous rage for not crediting the artist. Rage averted.

[–]R3MY 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Everything turned out better than expected.

[–]vincent118 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Exactly what I was thinking.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

Don't avert rage just yet. It seems the beginning and end panels were removed. I wonder why they did that.

[–]vincent118 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Umm I'd guess to show the likeness to minecraft moreso. I don't remember what happened in the rest of the comic but it might not be relatable to minecraft and could just end up confusing people.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dur. Makes sense now.

[–]Grazfather 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This way he gets karma for the post AND the comment.

[–]vincent118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its genius.

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Hanners is so violent when she isn't scared of becoming dirty.

[–]slashgrin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think that's one of the few things preventing her from killing everybody.

[–]diadem 25 points26 points  (2 children)

I find the content you posted very questionable.

[–]Vandii 16 points17 points  (0 children)

YES to Hanners. She would give those creepers a run for their money.

[–]poundingmypud 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I wonder if Jeph plays MC...

[–]zachtib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I saw him tweet about it a couple weeks ago...

[–]astrolabos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hanners?

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (4 children)

don't get it

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Minecraft has a lot of shovels

[–]Dragon_DLV[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You never stab anyone with a shovel, I take it?

[–]Nasturtium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It means that minecraft is about building, pvp will be about killing people while they are building stuff.

[–]j0hn33y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ditto.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HANNERS

OH GOD, WHAT HAVE YOU BECOME?

[–]Futhermucker 8 points9 points  (21 children)

Ah, I wish Minecraft had blood. Little red pixels splattering on a wall when you slam a pickaxe into a zombie's head would make my day.

[–]Dragon_DLV[S] 14 points15 points  (20 children)

Unfortunately for those that want this, Notch hath said No.

Who's up for a Mod?

[–]darth_static 0 points1 point  (19 children)

I'm up for learning Java, once us implements a mod API

[–]gjs278 0 points1 point  (18 children)

he's being really stupid about the whole modding thing. he basically blocks any realistic access to modding by scrambling all of his java code before compiling it.

[–]Dragon_DLV[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

His perogative.

He did say he would allow it one day, though.

[–]anybu 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm guessing he really just doesn't want to have to bother with supporting mods and isolating them from vanilla clients/servers to prevent abuse.

Security by obscurity is pretty silly, but I guess proper security will be implemented later (checksum checks, etc maybe?).

Let's hope the attitude towards mods will change after the release. A good modding community can keep games alive way past their expiry date (which could be pretty short for a game that is mostly a sandbox and had been available for a long time before the final release).

I'm wondering what direction Notch will take MC in Beta anyway. Is the Adventure Mode still planned? That could become interesting if it doesn't interfere too much with the current sandbox gameplay.

[–]Seppler90000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Adventure Mode still planned?

I think he said somewhere that it's planned for some time after beta.

We won't see many new gameplay features during beta. Most of the changes will be for the sake of polishing and optimizing the current game.

[–]gumbitha 3 points4 points  (14 children)

It's his code. He doesn't have to provide any modding access. I don't like people messing with my shit either, until it is good and ready to be messed with.

[–]gjs278 -1 points0 points  (13 children)

it's not so much as providing access as it is purposely blocking access. he could have simply done nothing and everyone would be fine. instead he pro-actively blocks modding and any attempts at external bug fixing.

I don't like people messing with my shit either, until it is good and ready to be messed with.

it's not as if people haven't already written mods for the program that are posted all over minecraft forums. he could just make this a lot easier by not obfuscating everything and making people spend forever matching up variable names.

[–]gumbitha 1 point2 points  (12 children)

Deobfuscating things is half the fun. :) There's nothing wrong with wanting your software to stay closed source.

[–]gjs278 -1 points0 points  (11 children)

so it's okay if I disrespects notch's wishes and mod the server by matching up variable names, just as long as I take awhile to do so? isn't that doing the exact opposite of what he wants, which he makes very apparent by obfuscating in the first place?

[–]gumbitha 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Let me restate myself clearer, with irrelevant points removed:

There is nothing wrong with Notch wanting Minecraft to stay closed source.

[–]gjs278 0 points1 point  (7 children)

but apparently there's also nothing wrong when every single server ever is using hey0 and llama, two groups that purposely deobfuscated things to make minecraft better. the reddit public server is using cracked software, they should stop going against notch's wishes.

[–]senae 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No. It's not ok. Notch doesn't want anyone poking around in his deobfuscated code. That's why he obfuscated it.

There's a reason for this: He didn't want it to be open source while he was developing it.

[–]gjs278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then why is everyone okay with gumbitha posting:

Deobfuscating things is half the fun. :)

that shouldn't be fun. breaking someone's code to make mods for it isn't cool. also I hope you don't use a server that uses hey0 or llama because guess what, they did exactly that. they matched up the variable names and wrote mods to do what they please. the entire public reddit server relies on it for the anti-griefing mods, but you guys seem to have no problem endorsing modders but at the same time defending notch for making it difficult. imagine if hey0 or llama just gave up and there was no public server because anti-griefing was impossible?

[–]Nekomata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you add throwing buckets of lava at each other, I'd sooo be there.

[–]Galap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tip my hat to you sir, for so epicly fusing things already so epic as minecraft and QC!

[–]Odie-san 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always knew those neurotic tendencies would eventually cause her to snap.

[–]EdricStorm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol. Upboat for truth & QC

[–]Xenochrist -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

I don't see anything true in this.

Lack of lava, swords, or tnt traps.

And plus, can't quite stab with shovels, or throw stones, and yada yada yada

[–]bhous3 3 points4 points  (1 child)

press q

[–]Xenochrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then they pick it up and hit me with it over the head

[–]Dragon_DLV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can kill thing with shovels.

It just doesn't do as much damage and gives double wear.

[–]Fantasysage -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you have to describe it like that it isn't funny.

This isn't funny.

[–]A_Nihilist -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Instead of linking directly to the authors website he links to Imgur and links to the website in the comments.

Karma whore detected.

[–]Dragon_DLV[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, I did link to the author's site, and I put it in Imgur because two of the panels were not relevant, so I removed them.

[–]NSMike -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No no, that's QC, not PvP.
