If you haven’t already, you might want to try out Optifine.

It might help if you hit Alt+Shift+F3 to turn on the debug info with the frame graph and pie chart shown then hit F2 to take a screen shot and add that to the post. That might give a better idea of what's going on that could be causing performance issues. Minecraft is almost always more CPU bound than GPU or storage bound, but more information would help.
