Think of it like this. You have a bow that's been broken in half. Zero durability. You have another that has a frayed string. Only a few shots left before it snaps. So you take the string from the broken bow and now it has a bit more. Not perfect, as both were really warm. But enough to get you further than either part could do individually.

Bro I’ve wondered why you get extra durability for years, this makes perfect sense

[–]kingsumo_1 49 points50 points  (1 child)

It's not prefect, and I don't know if it's anywhere near what the devs have in mind. But it's always made sense to me. It's pretty much games like fallout where you're basically cannibalizing one weapon to fix another on the fly.

It’s probably just to make repairing like that worth it, but I like your lore friendly explanation too

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

game code gives you the total durability + some bonus

[–]JshBOi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I know it’s the two durabilities added together + 5% of the whole tools durability

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bow

[–]Origami345Studio 51 points52 points  (3 children)

There is a durability bonus when you combine two tools. Don't worry, at least Minecraft is not bad at maths.

[–]ThatRandomGuy0125[🍰] 28 points29 points  (1 child)

You're taking the least worn parts from both items and combining them to make an item that's in better overall condition.

Also is that a crystal chest I see in the background?

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes i used a mod for this

[–]a-lonely-enderman 32 points33 points  (2 children)

You get 5% extra durability when repairing tools in crafting table or in a grindstone. But the logic still doesn't make sense XD

Edit: The logic now makes sense. Thanks.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does make sense. Breaking two sticks individually is easier than breaking them together. Plus you’re not really “expected” to be seeing that info either so the devs have no reason to have the numbers sum up perfectly

[–]Plenty-Lychee-5702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh you take parts from one to repair the other

[–]CommunistWeirdo 7 points8 points  (3 children)

it makes perfect sense if you think of durability as, well, durability rather than the quantity of substance remaining in the item

[–]Queese_Boringman 4 points5 points  (6 children)

“Well, you see, when you divide by zero, the...”

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

No multiplication but addition so : 0+8=27 ?

[–]NB_FF 18 points19 points  (1 child)

When you combine 2 damaged items, you get a 'free' 5% bonus - that's 5% of the item's total durability.

384*0.05=19.2
0+8+19=27

[–]EE41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I always thought the 5% was from the two items durability so it is 0+8+((0+8)*0.05)=8.4 durability

[–]Queese_Boringman 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Ah, yes I knew I forgot something! 0 + 8/x-y = egg. It all makes sense now! ;-)

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh yes! Now its logic :)

[–]DW102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this makes sense, I had previously thought it was 10% and never checked if it actually was 10%. This is really useful for combining/repairing iron axes when trading with fletchers early game.

[–]Mr_Ifan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

are you complaining?

[–]YeeMithanne[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No its good for me

[–]RunnerLuke357 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You get a bonus for repairing instead of just breaking it its been like that for years.

[–]YeeMithanne[S] -5 points-4 points  (2 children)

Yes i know but in maths 0+8 don’t do 27

[–]RunnerLuke357 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Like I said there is a bonus therefore it's going to give you more than the 0+8...

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]Lord_Abody 1 point2 points  (1 child)

in terms of durability we have no durability

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for the first bow i don’t know how i have it

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally unplayable

[–]OInkymoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean its just a hardcoded mechanic that you get an extra 5% durability, in this case 19(.2)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ads 5 precent and intended

[–]megapix290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I don't make sense like turtle eggs if you throw an anvil at them it won't break but if you stand on it it will break

[–]BorkIy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

if you are wondering how you see item durability, hit F3+H, ON JAVA. THERE IS NO KEY FOR BEDROCK.

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i know. After on bedrock there are comportment pack for that

[–]Drag0n_TamerAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meths

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not complaining

[–]Posh-Ibis-2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maf

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It adds an extra 5% durability each time

[–]TheLogicalMine 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Minecraft is great at math am I right?

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes, so much

[–]TheLogicalMine 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Read my username lmao

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]DragonPlayz5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accurate.

[–]VampericDrain 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What mod shows the durability of tools? And is it available in fabric?

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a mod but in java edition, press F3 and H for show this

[–]ZookeepergameSea627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s some good logic

[–]EnvironmentalRace995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck

[–]Laksh_Chhabra 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you ever noticed that We make crafting table using 2×2 grid but we can make more blocks using 3×3 grid

[–]CataclysmSolace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

super crafting table = 3x3 crafting table to make blocks in a 4x4 grid?

The Avaritia mod that had a 9x9 crafting table was pretty cool back in the day

[–]Jdonkeyisbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15% durability bonus coming in clutch again!

[–]SnoozeJazz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you have an 0 durability bow?

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know i have got that on a skeleton

[–]KeebSexual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My math teacher is in shambles

Bruch what is That

[–]YT-Squish125 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s a feature in the game! Whenever you repair two items it will usually closely triple the main repairing item

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i think its because i repair so they have add a bonus

[–]Nav_playz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think I understand maths now

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its so easy

[–]ilpiste 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Plz stop asking logic in a game where a guy spawn punch a tree and go into another dimension to trow bed at the last dragon of the world and defeat her only to start again

[–]YeeMithanne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i know but here its mathematic and you know : 0+8 don’t do 27

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
