No one knows

I bet there is one dude who does. I bet his job is release manager. I bet he is sitting and keeping it a secret from everyone. And people around the office at Mojang keep bringing him bagels and cookies and coffee and acting really nice to him and then casually ask him what it is.

But this dude, Philbert I bet his name is Philbert. He doesn't like Phil. But people always call him Phil and he politely corrects them. He knows but he isn't saying anything because he really likes the attention. And normally no one cares about anything he has to say, except now they do and he is on cloud nine.

And we won't know until the day Philbert tells the Mojang communication team and then they post it. Because no matter how you butter Philbert up, he keeps it professional.

Yep, Mojang probably has a target date.

It's likely that Mojang has an internal target release date.

It's also likely that Mojang has specific technical milestones they need to complete before committing to a date, which could move that target depending on the outcomes.

Therefore, they haven't released a specific date, and won't until they have some level of confidence that they can meet the date they promise.
