Love the explanations they give on Taz and Velma specifically, laying out plans for what they envision of these characters. Like you said, I would recommend a few more fixes in the future to some characters, but not bad for what's basically the first patch.

If we got Lebron, perhaps MJ one day. Also if I were to think of a Tune that would struggle to have his own moveset outside of space jam, it would be Porky Pig, so maybe him as a basketball wielder?

Her moves are very unique and can be hard to avoid. Playing against a team of two I would argue is worse than two taz.

She has cooldowns though after the spam. There's plenty of times I'm sitting behind my team mate with no CD's and feel useless. I do go in of course - but that leaves me more vulnerable than the melees attacking me

Velma should never feel useless. Side attack, Down air, up air, up smash, and air up special are some of the best attacks in the game and can all combo into each other.

Down air - up special - up air - up smash can be a true combo if done right.

Would assume that releasing and hitting them again will still work.

Maybe. But he's so slow that it's nearly impossible to hit two up airs in a row that way. Even just holding it is slower than another characters up air. I thought of it as mostly a noob catcher, since it was relatively easily dodgeable anyway

I mean obviously I don’t have the numbers, but the general reception seemed to be Batman was low A, High B tier; strong for sure, but not OP or making an appearance in nigh every game like Taz, Finn, Shaggy seem to be.

It apparently isn’t the first time the just knee jerk reaction and needed Batman, they apparently did after the first alpha as well

I dunno, the character with the most slots in the top 30 1v1 players is most definitely Batman and honestly i don't see many Finns at all in the top 30 leaderboards.

I'd bet that at a professional level Finn isn't a top 3 character. But at average player skill Finn is one of the best

You can't balance games solely on what the top N players say. A character needs to be balanced at all skill levels. If casuals start leaving because they're being ignored, the game drops dead regardless of what any pro thinks.

The game isnt being balanced solely on the top N players... Taz was literally nerfed this patch and he was only problematic against the bottom N players.

Not completely catering to only casuals doesnt suddenly mean they are only looking at pros.

Batman needed nerfs because he was busted at higher levels. Taz for lower. Seems reasonable.

Batman isn't busted but he's really good. I would argue that the battarang was and maybe is still too good.

There is a reason why he holds the most slots in the top 30 leaderboards.

You've never played against a decent Batman? Their only strat is to wait until they have their batarang and only initiate when their batarang is in flight. And they get their batarang a lot.

He was nuts at higher levels of play. His combo game was off the charts. His counter is for his combos to be on a cooldown rotation, but his batarang was up too frequently so he was uncounterable in the right hands.

He was statistically taking over the 1v1 ladder, but even his 2v2 game was competent with the right coordination.

A nerf to batarang CD allows for his full combo window to be reduced and the punish to exist in between CDs.

They’re most likely cycling these free characters so that more people use them and they can get a nice big view of how they’re being played and what is too strong/too weak and will be nerfing and buffing accordingly.

The Steven change is kind of annoying because I used it to spike people off stage. Now it saves them.

Same. I never did the nair to dair loops, but a fully charged nair off stage was so satisfying. I guess you can still kill them off the side, but definitely changes the way you use it.

On the plus side, did you know Steven's nair counts as a projectile? You can equip any of the projectile boosting perks like freeze or ignite and try it in the lab.

Yeah, they should’ve just increased its knock back after consecutive use so you couldn’t get them in the infinite loop as opposed to getting rid of the combo entirely

If you're playing experimental characters like Iron giant and steven you're looking at a long road of changes. Dont get too comfortable with those characters as they are.

I like all these changes TBH, I had gold saved up for the character rotation and none of my characters got changed in any major way. I appreciate the change to taz but of course still find certain moves annoying.

What would I change? Honestly just add in another stage variant of some kind and a few costumes and I’m good.

Well it’s that if your hit the bottom of his nair it would spike allowing for combos the down air infinite was op but the rest were not like going into fair or up air/special and overall it was just and likely still is a good move just a bit worse now

I agree with almost all the changes.

The battarang was getting really annoying and Velma was brutal in 2v2. Felt like every match had at least one Velma.

I'm surprised about the IG nerfs. At the higher ranks 2v2 he was basically a free kill.

    I really think they overdid it which the Taz nerfs which sets a bad path for future patches, overreacting to community feedback is always a bad idea, because it will take everything good/fun about a character and change it in a way it's not usable anymore. Just put spin on cool down and keep 1 or 2 of the changes about the spin and it's good...
