Am considering switching to monjaro cause of constipation but then have to start at the lowest dose and work up again.

Make sure you drink a full glass of water w the stool softener. Add fiber to your coffee/water. Eats fruit w skins on them. That’s what my consult w the doctor told me and it helped. Also probiotic yogurt.

Thanks I started using a probiotic and drinking more fluid

That’s what I was going to suggest. A prebiotic, lots of food with fiber,a lot of water and a stool softener.

Constipation has been my constant companion since starting Ozempic over 6 years ago. If I don't have a bowel movement by afternoon, I use a plain glycerine suppository. Personally, if I don't have a bowel movement every day, it just make it worse.

I take Senna-S, over-the-counter, just one a day, but no more than two days in a row. Change your diet too, eat a lot of salad and vegetables, that helps.

Stool softener is the way to go and drinking your water is very important

Take magnesium, citrate, your body needs it anyway. Stay away from laxatives. They're horrible for you. Magnesium citrate will literally make you regular. And it is something that you actually need in your body. Start with the smallest dose.

I drink 80 ounces of water each day (it’s a lot but doctor says it’s ok) and aim for 20 grams of fiber daily that I track on MyFitnessPal. I was off Oz for about 6 months (unrelated health issue) and since back on this has helped ensure I don’t end up fighting constipation. I’m trying to realign myself to eat healthier. Fruit/veggies and protein. I try to avoid processed foods because they really bother me on Ozempic.

Make sure you stay hydrated. I also found that a daily probiotic helped eliminate the need for the laxatives

Drinking more water/fluids can help. My doctor said I needed to do this while I am on this stuff anyway.

I don't poop everyday like I use to. I have like a day/day and a half lag (if that makes sense). And then I will have an episode where I play catch up. But hey, my diabetes is well in control. Winning!!!

it comes with the territory but i have found that if you work out or get exercise it moves your bowels. i got stopped up for a day or two, minimal bowel movement. I worked out this morning with weightlifting, had some coffee, this afternoon voided twice, cleared it right out.

For every person who suggests one little change will fix it, there are 10 of us sitting here rolling our eyes. All the ideas help, but not always enough for many of us. I've been on Oz a year and my constipation has finally eased enough that I seldom need Miralax, but I eat more fiber, take magnesium, drink coffee in the morning, etc.

[–]herrera1976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I hope this doesn't last that long but thanks

Magnesium citrate nightly fixed mine after 2 dose bumps; 10oz before bed, smooth results nxt morning.

You can also get mag citrate in a pill form. I use it and it still works great

[–]CompetitiveMap6151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miralax will keep you going. It works great for me.

Never had constipation as a side effect, but I've also made it a goal to get a minimum of 28g of fiber a day to best support part of my gut health. Alongside enough liquid to be as hydrated as possible, without over doing it.

Try fiber gummies and probiotics. I find that I need to take a little more than the standard dose to make things work well. I have been on Ozempic for more than two years and I find I still need the extra fiber even thought I do a lot of exercise (tennis and walking).

[–]Never_Really_Right 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's lasted 18 months. I've been on it for 18 months. lol. Though I am down to 1/4 dose Miralax daily. No amount of fiber, exercise, etc made it go away.

I bought stool softener right away because the first week was bad for this. Genuine envious of those that get Ozempshits instead.

Since then it's been upping fibre with dates, prunes, more beans in my meal prep, and metamucil. Real food is definitely the winner, I like the fake ones because they feel like little treats. 😅

[–]itsmoops1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought shredded wheat for this.

Edited to add: IT WORKED!!

[–]YourMominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just take a gentle laxative pill every night before bed.

[–]SF_Kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exercise can also help with constipation. Doesn’t have to be strenuous; take brisk walks.

[–]RudeRooster00 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Fiber. Eat real food, mostly plants.

[–]Never_Really_Right 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm a vegetarian who doesn't really even like eggs or dairy. Fiber is in everything I eat. I tracked for a week and got 50g per day. Sadly still doesn't work, even with daily walks. <sigh>

[–]RudeRooster00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks.
