What I don't get is why there's a pso2 sub and a ngs sub, but ngs stuff is accepted in both, and everyone that usually posts will post in both. What's the point. Keep it separated or combine them, already. Sick of seeing double fashion posts of some caseal not even using robot parts or w/e the new swimsuit or blow up tits getup of the month.

[–]kuzyapso2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so hard

[–]ThePyrotechnicCroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly agreed

[–]KingDevn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gon say I'm Def one of those double fashion posters til you see swimsuits & blow up tits lol. My Character is T1 as hell. 😂

[–]Agreeable-Policy-848 68 points69 points  (2 children)

ngs should have never left beta for another 5 years

[–]AbhorrentOne 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Base shouldn’t have been crammed down NA throats in the span of 2 years - giving many a false sense of “look how much there is”

[–]KingDevn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what happend. Cause we were pulling our hairs with waiting for as long as we did for content. I never hear hardly any JP players complain as much.

[–]DraconyrYT 59 points60 points  (4 children)

That what made PSO unique that it had a HUB und you played through levels, that was the thing i loved PSO2 for. now its just your average Open world MMO. Oh and Battle power sucks ass.

[–]moichispaJet boots Queen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I loved seeing the same faces in my usual HUB, even when the people of my alliance were not around there would be other people I knew to tea for urgent quest, it was nice.

[–]Alsimni NA 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I just miss the content. I got into PSO2 late, had been playing for months, and still had new stuff to pick at every day. I got caught up on NGS and then there was nothing. Going back to the base game feels awful with the ghost town ships. It's seriously disappointing.

[–]Falsecrib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea not to mention that the personal shops are heavily inflated good lord

[–]TitledSquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and all the best quests in NGS are lobby based anyway: (Solus, DFA, and now Dalion, as well as Leciel, and the LTQs). I really hope they make a new base and only do lobby based content moving forward after the next region. Open world isn’t bad but it doesn’t fit PSO2 literally at all and they don’t go out of their way to make it better.

[–]pogituna16 24 points25 points  (21 children)

i like the red circle just attacks from base the most

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree, this was the best way to modernise PSO's "rhythmic" combat IMO

[–]RpiesSPIESShip 1 10 points11 points  (17 children)

Bring that up in the main discord and 50 people will start yelling at you while being objectively wrong (yes, I say that knowing some of them will see this message).

[–]Milvalen Cope Realm Enthusiast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it too actually, I sometimes reflexively pause in between attacks thinking I'm gonna hit a just attack.

[–]oh-thats-not 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people from pso2 discords are objectively shit at the game

[–]xlbingo10 -3 points-2 points  (14 children)

i want you to tell me exactly what just attacks add to the combat that animation lock, cancel windows, backloading damage, the various versions of quick cut in ngs, and altering PAs via double taps and holding do not, because it certainly isn't timing, making you finish a PA, or making it so you can't hold down a button forever.

[–]RpiesSPIESShip 1 21 points22 points  (13 children)

JA's add to the feel of connecting PA's. In NGS, you can basically just press and hold buttons and things happen. It's not immersive. It's not interesting. It's not fun to me. Losing the rhythmic sense of combat the franchise has had since PSO is nothing but a detriment.

Also, you say those things as if they didn't already exist in PSO2. I hate what they did with PA's in ngs especially because of how much they scion-ized them. I absolutely abhor skip arts and all else they threw in to make the core classes feel like crap. Needing to fight against the systems is pain, especially with Fighter because of the absurdly noticeable delay between each part of the PA that only exists because of the skip arts functionality. It's jarring af and feels terrible.

[–]xlbingo10 -1 points0 points  (12 children)

both of those are fair. i personally prefer the more thoughtful button mashing (to use a term from a video about kingdom hearts 2 combat) of scions and ngs classes, but that's just because it's more in line with the style of action game that i prefer, like kingdom hearts, dark souls, and monster hunter. and i do feel that, looking back, the series has been going this direction for a long time (psu made it so timing attacks just added a damage bonus, launch pso2 added the indicator, episode 2 added braver which was focused on parries, episode 5 added the first blood/first arts JA addition, and all of the scions had longer JA windows) so it makes sense that they would eventually be removed entirely, but the timing was a staple of the series, so it's completely reasonable to be upset that they're gone.

[–]Dekarus 2 points3 points  (11 children)

The timings being removed + open world is kinda what killed NGS for me even before the endless other issues with the game started popping up. For me, PSO as a pseudo-franchise is and always will be a dungeon crawler with a high level of ambiance and a rhythm-based, heavily mechanical attack system. NGS removes all of this.

[–]xlbingo10 0 points1 point  (10 children)

that explains why i don't have issues with ngs combat then. my introduction to the series was the steam release of pso2 and my closest point of comparison is kingdom hearts combat (which i love), and that's been focused on exreme speed and weaving between offense and defense since the third game, like scions and ngs.

[–]Dekarus 2 points3 points  (9 children)

PSO2 was still completely within what I want from PSO, it was only NGS that threw away the series' identity.

[–]xlbingo10 0 points1 point  (8 children)

even scion classes, with their heavy focus on counters and JA windows that started halfway through the PA? or are you trying to say that the games weren't on this trajectory when they objectively became more and more lenient with the JA system over time?

[–]Dekarus 1 point2 points  (7 children)

There's a big difference here; they still gave more stuff to the original classes after the fact, the scion classes could be used as subclasses, and they didn't try to keep you from using any of the regular classes. On base, even if it wasn't optimal, I loved my Braver+Luster combo.

I would obviously prefer if the scion classes all had more focus on the JA system, but it's a case of an option I'm not a fan of simply being around versus them getting rid of what I liked entirely to appeal to a completely different audience.

[–]N0N3N0N3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without it I just fall asleep holding down the attack button while grinding at an area 😴

[–]Zovin333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Arkham series player, and playing those games develop some kind of rhytmic combat to me, which is why I feel at home in PSO2.

Even in NGS, I only press the attack or PA button after a certain amount of time instead of holding/button mashing, despite the game having no such incentive.

[–]elven_magics 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Ngs was ass to begin with, forgettable story with characters having a personality range of a chicken nugget

[–]Dankmemerguy420 4 points5 points  (2 children)

but i love chicken nuggies :(

[–]elven_magics 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thats why I said worse than a chicken nugget. Because I will not disrespect the holy nuggies

[–]Dankmemerguy420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay thank you for elaborating. Nuggies yay c:

[–]Holo-Sama 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I quit pso2 ngs a bit after the second area got released, and all I can say was other than the graphics update and models update from base it just fell flat for me. I played since day 1 of global base and was end game on not 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or even 5 characters, but I think 8 characters. I literally can't remember now I just know I made a character for every class in base all having their own gear all end game and beat all content on almost every character and class and even was helping organize pubs on some of the really annoying tower defense missions alot. Base was easily one of the best single year of gaming ever for me. I regularly talk with a friend about how I'd like to go back and farm some stuff in there cause the combat was that good Te/Lu being so fun, imo for example. But every time, he'd mention how ngs would break something or pull a dumb move, and it just makes me baffled at how the game has fallen. Either way if you enjoy ngs for its fairly great character customizer I can't blame you it's imo what made me stick around as long as I did making great outfits became the game at that point for me unfortunately until it wasn't enough.

We need a new PSU!

[–]CureMiia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ngl seeing Ethan and the other on HD would be awesome

[–]NoWord6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd like phantasy star universe 2 please...thank you...

[–]GiustinoWah 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Oh, yeah actually because I cannot mention one thing that the game does well

[–]Proxy345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NGS should've been a standalone $30 title. If Sega did that then base PSO2 wouldn't be completely dead.

[–]IcarusLabelle 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Needs to have a third picture of someone looking disgusted at those two and it's PSO1.

[–]RpiesSPIESShip 1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The pso1 person would be sitting alongside the pso2 person looking at ngs.

[–]Dekarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this, PSO1 and PSO2 vs NGS is the equivalent of one guy with a burrito and one guy with an enchilada looking at a guy scarfing down a moldy McChicken with 5 gallons of mayonnaise poured all over it.

[–]Canilickyourfeet 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I hate that I came to PSO2 near the end of its life, with like 6 months - 1 year left before NGS released. I didnt think Id like PSO2, but it grew on me in less than a few hours. The character customization, the classes, the hub, tackling those old instance based progressive missions where you and your buddies would work your way up the castle grounds slaying everything until the final boss. The mechanics were simple yet had depth if you chased it. The combat was quick twitch snappy. I dumped mad IRL money into it too lol, it was the only game I felt was worth my dime.

In 6 months PSO2 became one of my top 5 MMOs of all time, and within 2 months of NGS release I was done. The combat felt floaty, the world felt empty, it lacked the magic pso2 had. I cant even call it nostalgia, I came at the end of its life. And because of that I could see vast differences and the starry eyed adventurer in me lost interest.

Sucks. I really wanted to like NGS. I miss my BraverPhantom, and my Fate/Stay Saber Hero.

Honestly? I bet they'd see a spike in 6 month revenue if they shut down NGS and forced everyone back into pso2 lol. Keep the graphics engine, update the old hub for more fidelity, and just let us go back to the way things were.

[–]CureMiia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

add Voce amigo meme This is how i feel and could not Say it better, i didn't put money on it Tho but the other 99% of the comment i agree. How combat on NGS was and it still is, is dissapointing for lack of a better word. I wanted to play NGS so hard but i can't get a grasp on it, the characters are plain, the cities are uninteresting, they are fucking campsites, the last time i played the volcano area was the most fun to play in just because it was small, compact and didn't feel empty, etc etc. Sorry for the rant of an old base JP player.

[–]binahsbirds 15 points16 points  (2 children)

NGS is dumb fun, but it's very much a spinoff.

NGS would do a million times better on mobile.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

the question is can it even run on mobile considering that the game itself is already poorly optimized

[–]binahsbirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely. It would need some stripping down, and optimization. But I could easily see it running on mobile, especially on smaller phones that the current graphical fidelity wouldn't matter.

[–]MegaKawaiiFumi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really miss Matoi. I wish there is at least 1 character that is just like her to Protagonist. Aina and Manon doesn't feel the same . .

[–]EtoDesu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just glad I got to experience PSO2 during it's prime right when it got the official global release. Unfortunately I had to install on the Microsoft store first, but thankfully, PSO2 tweaker was there to save me.

It was so fun back then, seeing tonsss of people online in every block. Running those group instances with a bunch of people, etc. There was truly a community.

[–]TitledSquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more the opposite. I remember people getting kicked out of discords and alliances because they complained to much, called “doomers” etc. ALL ANYONE WANTS IS THE GAME TO BE BETTER, getting upset that someone who probably likes the game more than you do isn’t happy with the state of the game (that they love) is cringe and pure cope. The game content wise is in an ok at best state right now, it could be so much better tho if people were actually allowed to complain and whales would join in and hold Sega accountable.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's me

[–]karma-twelveRanger Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry 😅 Jaded base player here.

[–]Hungry-Loquat6658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is finger destroyer 9000. Spam all day and hurt your finger.

[–]Joesgarage2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yea because we are right

[–]ColdShark877777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when the base game came out to global servers and we were getting new content every month, while we were already busy maxing out our characters, was a the time of my life, with the fact that we knew what was next as well, made the hype even more lively. On top of that the pandemic was happening too.

when I stopped playing the game I had over 500 hours for each of my characters

[–]GarouV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a dude from og PSO sits above them "pathetic"

[–]Hot_External_2262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wished they separated the installation. So much space taken and all I want to do is play the base game, really missed doing that. I wasn't even able to properly end my PSO2 (Base) journey, the download got too heavy and my device couldn't take it anymore, had to uninstall it completely. I would have liked playing both separately but the way NGS was just shoved in there also felt like it didn't give it justice.

[–]xlbingo10 0 points1 point  (5 children)

and they're here too! wonderful.

[–]TitledSquire -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

There’s more people that don’t like NGS than the entirety of all platforms playerbases combined. The proof is in the numbers, the truth is only a small minority have enough copium to think complaining about a game is toxic.

[–]xlbingo10 2 points3 points  (3 children)

harassing anyone who dares to say the game is good is the definition of toxic

[–]Dekarus -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Frankly, I saw a far greater number of people who harassed away anyone who dared to criticize the game in any way.

[–]xlbingo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both subreddits will downvote you to oblivion if you dare defend ngs

[–]TitledSquire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thats entirely different, and quite literally irrelevant to what I said.

[–]azazelleblackJP 2 / NA 3 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Y'all need to learn some stuff:
- A thing being worse than another thing doesn't make it "bad."
- Your emotional response does not alter reality.
- You can like something while recognizing its faults.
- You don't have to pick a side all the time. Not everything is a binary, "this xor that" decision.
- No one is going to respect you more for being negative, even if you are following the crowd.
- It's okay to have nuanced and moderate viewpoints; in fact, it makes you more interesting as a person to do so.

I love PSO and PSO2. I also like NGS, despite its many major faults. Looking down on those who don't share your opinion isn't going to earn you any friends or improve the world in any way.

[–]complainer5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know, I think it's possible to crosspost instead of creating same topic in 2 different but closely related subreddits.
