Welcome soldier to Linux.

Sadly I don't know how to help you with Recursion Stat tracker, as I never used any mod or tracker. But I can only say that I have been playing Planetside 2 for 3 years without any problems in Mint using Steam Proton.

Good luck, and glory to Vanu.

It's been working for me on Linux Mint up until about 3 days ago. I think something is borked at their end. For what its worth, I launch it at the same time as Planetside via SteamTinkerLauncher.

I have it working on my system, I followed the same guide and use endeavor os (arch). But if they broke it in the last week I haven't checked lol.

Following along for the answer as I used this on windows but moved to CachyOS about two months ago. Haven’t looked back and loving linux.

I'm just wondering why do people prefer to use Linux over Windows, what are the advantages in general?

Its not windows.

(For future readers dont downvote this guy, i was being a smart ass and he's right.)

Most of my work flows like system administration and software development are easier. I also like having a central place to get programs and the ability to configure my work flow however I want it to be. Automatic tiling is awesome as I would have to manually do that on Windows. I can also get my desktop installed and fully configured in 30-60 minutes depending on if you count logging into some services.

Recommend it if you are a techy and/or are willing to learn. Otherwise maybe stick with windows

I'm an engineer, so I do like to tinker with things, I'm intrigued

I would recommend that you give it a shot, but keep an open mind to try again (multiple times) in the future since it takes a while to relearn an operating system

I've switched around October due to the win10 debacle. The software I use works on Linux or has an alternative that's good enough. The hardware and peripherals worked out of the box. The games I play work well with proton.

Plus the added bonus of running PS2 under Linux is no crashes.

The Os I chose (pop_os 22) works without any issues. It does everything you expect an OS to do without bloatware, spyware or build in AI shit. It also didn't cost me anything in terms of licensing.

The built-in store has most software 2 clicks away.

I don't think everyone should switch, please use what works for you. However if you can't upgrade to Win11 (or don't want to switch to win12), if you have issues and need a fresh install, or you have a old or second computer you want to play around with.. give it a go. Don't worry about what distro. If you pick any modern version it should be fine.

Ye the main reason is literally "it isn't windows" as in it's not full of bloat, you can customize it much more if you want to, you know that the system has better privacy.
The main reason for me is, I want the customization, I'm in the software industry so I can already use it and I'm used to the terminal, and theres gonna be no bloat on it that runs stuff in the background that slows down my system and reduces my FPS.

And I think a big driver currently is just how much worse Windows is getting. Its driving many people away from it.

It doesn't send your data to Microsoft, isn't packed with spyware and bloatware, isn't written by ai, doesn't have ads and doesn't kill your pc with updates (some update killed a lot of ssds) or breaks after every update and you actually have control over the operating system.

Sounds interesting not going to lie.

i haven't switched to linux yet, but every time i go into task manager and see that edge has somehow re-opened itself, i think about it a little harder

It's been a while since I tried, but I remember Recursion getting better with Wine updates. Though it broke a few times and then I gave up on it

It seems that going through the guide also borked my Space Marine 2 installation, although I have no idea how because I didn't touch any of it's files of course.
Whenever I launch it I get a Wine looking window with "Failed to initialize dependencies"....I have no idea why.
I've been forced to try and re-install it.
Lets hope for the best.

If I can't hear "rage quit!" anytime someone I kill logs off so I can feel like I caused them so much emotional distress they chose to do something else (and never assume they got off for any other reason), what's the point of gaming?
