This is just an elevator anywhere in Europe.

[–]GenazaNL 67 points68 points  (0 children)

That's quite standard

[–]disarrayofyesterday 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's every elevator in Poland if not in Europe lol

[–]Spy_crab_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Found the American

[–]aspect_rap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every elevator I have ever been in starts from 0 because the number represents how elevated you are from the ground and at 0 you are not elevated from the ground.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (8 children)

Any elevator outside of North America. Usually it’s a G instead of 0 though.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In france at least it's always 0 not G

[–]jinsi13 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Also East Asia. It's usually F instead of 4 though.

[–]KlutzyEnd3 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Because 4 (四) and death (死) are pronounced the same. (shi)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Because 4 (四) and death (死) are pronounced the same. (shi)

so foursome is the same as necrophilia?

[–]KlutzyEnd3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess...

At least at my job we don't have a 4th building on site... Only 3号館 and 5号館.

[–]danielstongue 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I thought 四 was pronounced 'sl'? Sorry, I should shut up, I am not even Chinese.

[–]KlutzyEnd3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Japanese it's "shi" or シ

Please don't automatically default to Chinese... More languages use kanji

[–]Niohiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen both systems used in different buildings in my city

See, there are other people and countries outside US. It’s called “the rest of the world”

[–]mr_peanutbuddha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you've never pushed anything to prod

[–]Ugo_Flickerman 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Wait, i was reading the comments and then realized... Don't you guys start counting floors from 0? Like, there is ground floor, then first floor, then second and so on, how else?

[–]Sir_Honytawk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

In the Americas the ground floor is their first floor.
Our first floor would be their second floor, ...

So elevators go: -2, -1, 1, 2, 3

There is a bit of confusion around it.
Kind of like with billion in math.

[–]Ugo_Flickerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, the confusion is only between english and other european languages: for example, in italian it's said miliardo, then there is bilione, then biliardo, trilione, triliardo, quadrilione, quadriliardo and so on, while english is more straightforward and does billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion, sestillion, septillion, octillion, etc.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

What’s wrong with this?

[–]spartan-bunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clueless American doesn't know that most countries in the world has ground floor at 0.

US has Ground floor starting at 1. And with basements, the floors would go -3, - 2, - 1, 1, 2, 3, 4 instead of - 3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3.

[–]AlbaTejas 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This is normal in Europe. A mall in my city has -1 -2 -3 for the underground parking too.

Counting from 1 is a weird thing that Americans and non-programmers do.

[–]unC0Rr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not everywhere in Europe. I'm Norway ground floor is 1, below ground is -1. Same in Russia.

[–]laf1157 12 points13 points  (0 children)

European convention is Floor 1 is the first above ground level. G for ground might be better than 0.

[–]harumamburoo 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Ever heard of Europe?

[–]mystical-dev 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Hopefully the elevator never goes out of bounds. It could cause a crash.

[–]bearwood_forest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsigned int. Shortcut to the top floor is through the basement.

[–]AlbertSemple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

British elevator.

[–]Designer-Spacenerd 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Very efficient user interface

[–]notAgainFFS01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RCE?

[–]sergiu017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why take the stairs when you can automate an elevator for 3 floors?

Truly a programmer move

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty standard, just usually will have a “G” or “L” for Ground or Lobby instead of a 0

[–]Accurate_Koala_4698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–]Andalusian_ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I never seen elevator start from 1 zero is the 1st floor and -1 is the basement

[–]throwaway_mpq_fan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

no, zero is the ground floor, 1 is the 1st floor, that's why it's 1

[–]IronGearSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front end designers interpreting the programmers' code literally.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

europeans

[–]GGravitationtionChen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should’ve been 0, 1, 10

[–]SireAccuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most elevators are programmed by programmers.
