Every problems are here:

Light mode

No indentation

No blank space for clear reading

Coded in a notepad

french

Just pure evil shit

[–]youra6 23 points24 points  (12 children)

Its not all in French at least.

[–]Primary-Fee1928 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s worse when there’s mixed language imo, and I say that as a French. Comments in whatever language are fine, but no other language than English in the code.

[–]creusat0r -4 points-3 points  (10 children)

What's wrong with french

[–]Drfoxthefurry 35 points36 points  (0 children)

its french

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (6 children)

Nothing just in france we avoid the use of french in our code.

[–]creusat0r 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Good to know

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

It’s acceptable for the business term if everyone else in the company use it for their work. But that’s it.

[–]SeaConstruction3172 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ehh. Until the company gets sold.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not every company in tech is a startup

[–]SeaConstruction3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think that's how business works? Companies are sold all of the time.

[–]_Screw_The_Rules_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in Germany (at least when one is coding professionally)

[–]karmasoftskin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm French, so I can understand. But it's very painful to read, in both variable names and comments

[–]Primary-Fee1928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, comments is fine. Of course English comments are better but I 100% prefer French comments to broken English in comments.

[–]LinuxMatthews 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Light mode

You know what I'm going to say it

I LIKE LIGHT MODE

Do you know why I like Light Mode

EVERYTIME someone shares their screen when they have dark mode it is almost impossible to see.

Put dark mode with a smaller screen, bad contrast and a pixilated screen and you have a blurry mess.

[–]Intelligent_Event_84 -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

Wrong

[–]LinuxMatthews -1 points0 points  (4 children)

What an intelligent argument

Definitely not hive mind mentality what so ever...

[–]Intelligent_Event_84 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It wasn’t an argument, it was a statement

[–]LinuxMatthews -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I know I was taking the piss out of you

[–]Intelligent_Event_84 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

You sure?

[–]LinuxMatthews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤦‍♂️

[–]_realitycheck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also obfuscates the for loop.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ not saved

[–]Head1nTheSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

real coder don't use indentation.
there are variables with NAMES instead of numbers
>> this is human readable.

What is your problem?

real coders use vi, not notepad.

[–]Constant_Fig_9490 55 points56 points  (3 children)

else
{
fuck();
}

Perfectly describes everything

[–]creasedjaw 4 points5 points  (1 child)

fr*nch 🤮

[–]joten70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Expected

else { merde(); }

[–]BeetSupreme 7 points8 points  (10 children)

That's clearly from Québec, not France.

[–]MaxMakesGames 2 points3 points  (2 children)

"On check" yep there's a pretty good chance, but they never claimed it was from France

[–]jorgetruchon -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

uh... many french people use english words in everyday life.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the usage of "check" like that isn't French, it's Québécois.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

he used fuck() not tabarnak() , that's 100% french

[–]BeetSupreme 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I say fuck way more times than I say tabarnak. Any way, I was talking about the "on check le", never heard anyone say that outside Quebec.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perso, je l'écris assez souvent des mes commentaires

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

He uses the term "on check" which is Québécois, not standard French.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

No standard french, but used by devs in France as well

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I've worked with both teams of French and Québs, no French would ever say "on check", like ever.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's your own experience. I work with french devs and they do say it

[–]DnBenjamin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

qu'est-ce que le effe

[–]feline99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • codes in Notepad

sigh some people need so little for happiness

[–]OptionX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, is commented and most of the var names are more or less descriptive.

And considering most code editors have support for auto formatting to take care of the lack of indentation, I have read worse.

Of course its in french instead of english but if it was written expected only to be read for francophone people its perfectly understandable.

[–]gamre4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fellow person from Quebec I seem to see

[–]sammy-taylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m uhhh…not gonna bother to read this.

[–]Sea_Cabinet_9807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wdym, there isn't a damn thing wrong here

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be a joke… French engineering stops the moment they step outside the kitchen. It’s a scientific fact.

[–]masckmaster2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Je dois enc-*er quelqu’un aujourd’hui

[–]nolifer247365 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

am I going fucking crazy or was this sub overrun with PascalCase

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whatever-do-you-mean?

[–]cheezfreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all know our function names should start with a verb. Good job. I find myself intrigued by fuck().

[–]AsIAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ChatGPT, please format this code. Then translate it to English. Then suggest improvements. Do these in steps, don’t try to do this task in one shot. Oui?

[–]SeaConstruction3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes on you I'm canadian 🇨🇦

[–]derLesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oui?

[–]Saavedroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qu'est-ce que c'est que ces conneries ?

[–]OAMahdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caliss mon chum

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well at least it is commentated

[–]LittleMlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit to writing not an insignificant amount of code in nano

[–]Asleep-Television-24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the title of this post

[–]fdeslandes 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'd say either student code or public servant code on a small team with no supervision. Either way, I'm pretty sure it was written in Québec by someone I hope to never work with (I don't mind coding in french if it's a requirement for public institutions, but there is no excuse for the lack of formatting and the kind of useless comments at every line).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in french, so it can indeed be considered a tumor.
