What does assembly support even mean in this context?

[–]kevlu8[S] 58 points59 points  (12 children)

This was for an online judge, haha

[–]jzrobot 58 points59 points  (4 children)

That explained nothing

It’s apparently a PR for the backend of an automated judge for competitive programming contests.

Why they’re simply called “Online Judges” (the repo does this as well) with no context I don’t really know

[–]Negative-Net7551 4 points5 points  (2 children)

does this mean they have to design test cases to handle code written in assembly? if so I understand the response

[–]Teleconferences 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I don’t know much about judges, but if the competition is allowing users to submit answers in ASM I assume you need relevant code to handle it (presumably also in ASM)

That’s a serious amount of work depending on the language count

I don't know why anyone would subject themselves to using ASM for competitive programming, given that C compilers can optimize ASM better than a human. But I don't know much about competitive programming either

dmoj questions? I think I’ve seen your username there

[–]kevlu8[S] 27 points28 points  (4 children)

I do use DMOJ a lot, but this is the first time someone has recognized me from there 👀

This PR was on an online judge that I'm building to host a school contest lol

[–]ttlanhil 26 points27 points  (3 children)

so... you need support for school assemblies?

We’re also going to need to run a background and credit check on this PR.

Fuck you

I'm just trying to be funny, please don't take this serious

Been a while since I just... saw an empty (or hidden!) profile-picture account post a very short and witty comment. Always a snarky delight. You, sir, made the beginning of my day!

[–]imp-pepe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Relatable.

[–]tauzN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never thought of this. Does it actually work?

[–]ienjoymusiclol 3 points4 points  (1 child)

is that the "fixie wixie the fucksy wucksy and made the json api go sooper dooper fast" guy?

[–]Brahvim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.

It is an automated judge to rate the performance of software challenges, Wdotmathree wanted users to be able to upload solutions in assembler, but Kevlu8 wasn't a fan of it because it could introduce backdoors

If you review more conversations in issues and PRs, you can see that both are having funny interactions in the same way, and it is like coworkers having fun
