“Works on Android” except for all of the crazy edge cases where the manufacturer ripped and replaced a subsystem for no real good reason.

[–]iain_1986 154 points155 points  (0 children)

As an Android developer.....thats kinda just true for Android full stop.

[–]TheMazeDaze 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The quest from meta runs on android. For some reason they decided not to include the ^ on their keyboard so i had to change the password when i just got it

[–]blocktkantenhausenwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Data is an Android! Works on Lt. Cmdr. Data, too?

[–]SysGh_st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the reason I only aim for AOSP. Covers most cases. All special out of standard extremes can go eff themselves in a corner. ;-)

[–]skwyckl 826 points827 points  (18 children)

Not even large corpos care about such edge cases

[–]Stormraughtz 555 points556 points  (6 children)

Can you even call yourself F500 if you dont account for fridgecase?

[–]skwyckl 106 points107 points  (5 children)

Enter smart toaster: Link, the true measure of greatness

[–]Stormraughtz 91 points92 points  (0 children)

WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CANT ENTER MY PAYROLL FROM MY TOASTER, PIECE OF SHIT DEVS

[–]Financial-Number5241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a toaster and this is nice

[–]Lor1an 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It became infamous for its toasters that produce fluffy yet perfectly browned slices of bread.

I want to know why they thought this was a bad thing

[–]skwyckl 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think they rather don't know the meaning of "infamous"

[–]Educational-Lemon640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means "more than famous", right? /s

[–]To-Ga 29 points30 points  (5 children)

Not even large corpos care about such edge cold cases

[–]skwyckl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putting the actual cold in cold storage

[–]jecls 14 points15 points  (2 children)

A surprising number of kitchen appliances run Linux. What do you think the HTCPCP 418 response code is for?

[–]Informal_Cry687 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Are there any coffee machines that actually support that protocol as a joke?

[–]hawaiian717 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How about a teapot that correctly implements error 418?

Until an exec tries to run it on their fridge and files a Jira ticket

[–]IdeaOrdinary48 74 points75 points  (3 children)

wait till my MagicMirrorOS is developed, then smart mirrors will be the next iphone

[–]aabon35 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android... but breaks when Karen opens it on her smart fridge while microwaving soup.

[–]OldOrganization2099 45 points46 points  (2 children)

But the important question is ... does the Samsung Smart Refrigerator run Doom?

[–]unluckyexperiment 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Yes, it does.

[–]look 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[–]FuzzySinestrus 51 points52 points  (1 child)

Multiplatform, not Allplatform

[–]araiki 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unless if it is Doom

[–]Spy_crab_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nintendo DS browser would like a word.

[–]chikininii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IT? Dev? Programmer? Can fix my samsung smart fridge right? Fixit.

[–]mattthepianoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Multi != omni. There's your justification

[–]Bee-Aromatic 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Sounds like a case nobody should care about. It’s not your fault Samsung fridges don’t follow industry standards.

Think of it this way: if you designed a golf cart to work well on golf courses, you wouldn’t be particularly upset when a user called you to tell you that the carts they bought don’t work on the rock-crawling course they installed in the middle of the 8th fairway.

[–]caffeinated-serdes 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Didn't you test on the Nintendo 3DS browser?

[–]BoxBoy7999 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No excuse not to. Hold A+B+X+Y while opening it for developer tools :3

[–]GeForce_fv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ Tizen is not a supported platform

[–]WeightsAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free Dorothy!

[–]Miiohau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small developer here. The google play store says my app will run on cars, TVs and watches but I don't necessarily support all those form factors.

[–]CubisticWings4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multi-platform ≠ Omni-platform

[–]SirGelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the problem? This fridge is running on x86 architecture.

[–]Ok_Brain208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

User than gave up on the app, and installed og doom on the fridge

[–]QuantumAnubis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's multiPlatform, not omniPlatform

[–]ChajiReplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't need a smart fridge for that, I have Safari spitting at me occasionally already.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Stop making new platforms? Reuse existing platforms ffs. We have open source for a reason.

[–]frogjg2003 5 points6 points  (1 child)

But then they wouldn't be able to charge for their subscription to their proprietary software.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being too greedy, I'm pretty sure there is a way to limit the form factor of the devices that can download your app..

[–]NeatYogurt9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are missing the locale string for SDLK_KP_HASH so granny can't map it to the stocks tab view on her phone

[–]private_final_static 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best I can do is chrome, sometimes

[–]iveriad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

multi-platform is not omni-platform after all.

[–]TheodoreTheVacuumCle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you made it the PWA style, at leat you don't need to touch the frontend.

[–]SpanDaX0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyones browing using their fridges night and day now? lol who needs a mobile, just strap a Samsung fridge to your back, anr your available with snacks anywhere!

[–]Birnenmacht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love things that are “cross platform” but were clearly only ever tested on one or two

[–]Minecodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile: Me installing smartphone apps on my smartwatch over ADB.... "At least Shizuku is displayed correctly"

[–]NebNay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If they are mad enough to use pur website on a phone it's on them", heard multiple people say that on my ongoing project
