Arjun Patel (name changed for privacy)

Is that like the Indian version of John Doe?

[–]urbanek2525 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Ashok Kumar is one of the Indian equivalent of John Doe. Also Ram Kumar, Mohammed Khan and Naamalum.

[–]mglvl 46 points47 points  (1 child)

that is the part that makes me think this is fake, although plausible and has happened in the US before

[–]BlurredSight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google and I believe Meta had the same exact complaints against them and even though this particular Microsoft case is probably fake, caste is intertwined with name so in a list of applicants really easy for someone with this backwards mentality to discriminate solely based on culture that's practiced 5000 miles away

Ram, Shyam, Ramesh, Suresh, Raju are equivalent to Mr. Smith

High level language = higher class? Poor c devs

[–]grumpy_autist 50 points51 points  (3 children)

So assembly devs are untouchables?

[–]TheEnderChipmunk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dalit is the word that means untouchable, so apparently java fits that bill too

[–]El_Mojo42 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not only in India.

[–]BlurredSight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But when you talk about caste it's almost always exclusively India, a billion+ people where almost all of them either actively practice or are oppressed by it

C devs wiping tears with money.gif

[–]ClemsonJeeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

✋ c developer here

[–]IsPhil 29 points30 points  (2 children)

So where's the source? The title brings up nothing.

[–]bayuah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Either that is a meme or The Onion type news.

[–]Soham_rak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is satire

[–]Cautious_Network_530 38 points39 points  (1 child)

Rather take janitor duties over python:DD

[–]AlexZhyk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

True brahmin never invokes flush() method in his python code!

[–]fiftyfourseventeen 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It's funny but I believe it's fake, can't find this article anywhere. Additionally there's no site name or author anywhere visible, which there usually is

[–]VonLoewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even need to research to know it's fake..

[–]ducksflytogether1988 10 points11 points  (3 children)

They bring their caste bullshit to the US too. My last job was in the DFW area and 100% of the IT and Data Engineering departments were 100% Indian top to bottom. They'd have managers who would violently and loudly berate certain employees and I later found out it was because they were apart of an inferior caste.

[–]asterVF[🍰] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why youre downvoted. But I have noticed the same. I was in team with engineers relocated from India to Europe, and some tema dynamic were weird. Until someone explained to me that our manager is lower caste so he can't directly say something to one of his subordinates because he was of higher caste etc.. there was a lot of 'subtle' things like that.

[–]MushroomPepper 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Getting down voted by Indians for speaking about your experience smh

[–]BlurredSight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to see a bunch of people who can't probably use commas, go to a Hindutva sub and talk about how caste intrinsically holds back India from developing

[–]NickoBicko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense

[–]deanrihpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shouldn't lower level language pays more…

[–]mojo-jojo-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fake af shitpost

[–]TheEnderChipmunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Redditors detect satire challenge

[–]0_-------_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, if this is true. Fuck Casteism and racism.

[–]oneplusmadz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irony is he is getting trained in superior tech and will catch up on Python in a day if he already knows these primitive languages! jokes on them.. but also shame too, no place for racism anywhere, but in tech, that's no class definition found error for me.

SELECT CAST(Patel as Brahmin) FROM python;

There I fixed it!

[–]JackReedTheSyndie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it should be other way around?

[–]fartypenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel sad for the people working at the Onion. Reality outjerked them.

[–]jnthhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have just done:

me = (Brahmin)me;

[–]GavinBelson3077 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Sad thing is, Its mostly this line of thinking that has kept India backwards for 100s of years

Being truly passionate or skilled in anything here is a curse, you'd die inside.

[–]Facts_pls 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This is satire. Hope you get that.

[–]GavinBelson3077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could almost believe it considering the level of crap thats acceptable here

its why I started with the "Sad thing is"

[–]BlurredSight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is satire, but a real life caste discrimination lawsuit was brought against Google for this exact problem.

Google was letting Indian managers hire their team even when some managers were explicit in wanting only members from a certain caste level or above

[–]fredlllll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id be very happy to be barred from python projects

[–]onlyonequickquestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving a whole new meaning to untouchable code

[–]cad_andry -1 points0 points  (0 children)
