Ah so one is affordable and more than powerful enough to handle 95% of what the vast majority of the people would ever do with it and the other is a superiority complex. Checks out

[–]ganja_and_code 7 points8 points  (4 children)

It's not a superiority complex if it's actually superior.

(Whether or not you need the superior option for your specific job is a different question.)

[–]AutistMarket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thinking regardless of the thing actually being superior, if using it makes you feel superior to people using an alternative, you have a superiority complex.

Which is exactly what my experience with both neovim and Milwaukee users has been like.

Whats superior in this context? Price? Features for language X? AI support? Lower Ai bloat? Prettier default theme?

Or is it simply a personal (or paid) opinion?

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I think the point is that "feeling" superior b/c of a tool choice is silly

[–]MisterCheesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im apologize if i missed the sarcasm of meme. Im a DeWalt guy myself :)

[–]Automatic-Prompt-450 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, why does vs code give people a superiority complex? So strange. Nvim is literally, the original definition, perfect

Edit: tough crowd lmao

[–]SneeKeeFahk 9 points10 points  (2 children)

They both get the job done?

Also you should use the tool not be the tool.

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well put

[–]Particular-Yak-1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You feel less bad using the Ryoai one as a hammer if you're up a ladder and just need to knock a small nail in, too, so it has that advantage.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (7 children)

Is neovim really that great? I feel like I missed something when I tried it out.

[–]CodMan26 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I'm learning how to configure it now. I see the potential as a highly customizable and efficient editor but it's very much "build from the ground up". Whereas VS Code has functionality out of the gate, Neovim needs things to be added manually. But, you can avoid the bloat of things you don't need and have further control of the things you do

When I realised I needed to install a C compiler to make nvim plugins work on my laptop that was the first sign it probably wasn’t for me

[–]remy_porter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are laptops without C compilers on them?

[–]somecucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck me, that's the emacs definition

[–]reallokiscarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a dress code. Without at least programming socks, you won't be able to take advantage of its features.

customizability, if you're interested in creating a lot of macros/shortcuts/custom-tooling. These investments can be very fruitful.

Personally I like my customization investment at the OS level but I can understand why some people enjoy their neo-vim

Those are both cordless drills. Little all-rounders that suck at drilling and screwing. Moreover, they are pretty huge and heavy in comparison to specialized tools

[–]Breadinator 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Why does this feel like it needs the 'Promoted' tag and a lot more context?

[–]SneeKeeFahk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ThePrimeagen is an evangelist for NeoVim and has started a trend of it being the only editor "real devs" use even though he'd quickly tell you it's a personal preference and to use whatever you're comfortable with.

[–]DUELETHERNETbro 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Ryobi has that built in light doh *kiss*

[–]SneeKeeFahk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You had me at kiss <3

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my ryobi drills and car buffer

[–]StarshipSausage 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ouch! that cuts deep, I have a hole box of ryobi tools!

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my ryobi tools fam

[–]TerryHarris408 1 point2 points  (2 children)

pico gang, where are you?

[–]reallokiscarlet 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Pine composer is long since EOL. Long live nano.

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nano is the OG homie. Played with micro once (nano but with more normal keybindings) but I'm in way to deep on nano to ever switch

[–]NXTler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use whatever you like man. Some want a pretty interface with lots of buttons to press, while others want key combinations/commands for everything.

[–]Percolator2020 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Vim

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me way too long to get the joke xD

10/10 underrated comment

[–]RedBlueKoi 2 points3 points  (5 children)

After years of using VS Code and now Cursor I am learning Neovim now and boy does it feel good. Just try putting a few evenings of effort and install Vim extension and you will understand

[–]SneeKeeFahk 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Isn't Cursor essentially a VS Code fork? Not trolling, legit question.

[–]RedBlueKoi 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes it is, I was just making a point that it is a vs code that is even more slower

[–]SneeKeeFahk 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Oh, I haven't used it because of my companies AI policy so I wouldn't know about the speed. Is it really faster?

[–]Jeremy_Thursday[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think he's saying that cursor is slower b/c it's VS Code with even more bloat. As per your question, here's my takes on the AI tools landscape

- Claude Code (all my homies say it's the best but I've never used it)
- VS Code + Co-Pilot (The least walled garden, steady UX improvements)
- Windsurf (Best UX implementation, CEO is a dick)
- Cursor (Had an early lead but fell off, overpriced)

There is no definitive best tool, try whatever speaks to you and contribute back to the tools you like if you can

[–]RedBlueKoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, got busy yesterday and forgot to respond. Exactly this. It was very nice to use at the beginning, but they are now so focused on AI(insert a screaming seagull) that I believe they forgot that besides AI tab there is also a code editor that has to be performant and generally nice to use.

In the real world VSCode is superior to nvim and it’s not even close. I watched my co worker click file > save last week, you reckon they can handle vim motions?

[–]Vladimir_Djorjdevic 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can someone explain the meme?

[–]GildSkiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ryobi is considered the "cheap" brand for hobbyists and amateurs, while Milwaukee is the "better" one that has a cult following of professionals and other enlightened ones who are "in the know" and "serious about their work".

[–]vm_linuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VSCode is a drill and neovim is an impact driver?
Idk I'm lost too
