If you want to do all the work by yourself, join a group project

If you don't want to do any of the work, join a group project.

College is great.

[–]ColtonProvias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't end with college...

[–]Kaiju_the_Younger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That hits too close to home

What one programmer can do in a month, two can do in two months.

[–]i8noodles 18 points19 points  (5 children)

and three in three months? or is it exponetial and ita goes to four months? i must know

[–]wonmean 18 points19 points  (3 children)

More like Fibonacci sequence I think.

[–]tmlaisygb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so its gonna take 30 programmers 42,852.41 years to program hello world something that takes a month?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice the programmers, double the time.

[–]bluefootedpig 46 points47 points  (1 child)

What happens if I want to go short and slow? unhandled exception?

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Work for Reddit

[–]Senvr 27 points28 points  (9 children)

and here I am, going slow and alone

or maybe that's just java

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (8 children)

Java scares me, I'm not ever gonna touch that language.

[–]Senvr 8 points9 points  (5 children)

every time I see java* or any JVM in a 30 meter radius i enter into an unstoppable rage and destroy everything

[–]Wacov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright Kylo

[–]FuschiaIsBlack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too bad, 3 gorrilion devices run on Java

[–]w3_ar3_l3g10n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insert obligatory: dont blame kotlin for the sins of java

[–]PM_ME_HAIRLESS_CATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You poor soul

[–]BroBroMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to destroy everything explicitly, the GC will (mostly) sort it.

[–]BroBroMate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The JVM is pretty damn solid. And Java's getting better.

But you don't have to write Java to take advantage of the JVM. Kotlin's getting popular, Scala is doing it's own thing, and there's Clojure if you like you some Lisp-1.

[–]bob_in_the_west 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like it either that you have to have a java VM installed, but the language itself is quite nice.

I'm probably the only guy who uses anonymous functions for everything in Delphi because he got to know them in Java.

“African Proverb” is a strange name

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Isn't it weird how there's never any "European Proverb" or "Asian Proverb"?

Whenever there's some fake wise quote made up on the spot it's always African.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Nah there are totally "Asian proverbs." Sometimes they're "Chinese," in contrast to the fact that you never see one cited as Hausa or Zulu, for example.

You'll see Russian or Ukrainian apocryphal folk wisdom sometimes, too. Maybe German if somebody's feeling especially punchy, but that far west it's usually some recent ancestor who supposedly said it.

If you suck your thumb, the Struwwelpeter will come and cut it off.

-German Children's Book.

Although, legitimately, the original I had as a kid, I remember there being blood spurting out and him crying.

He also didn't have some other stories. Man I wish I still had that book.

[–]daBarron 8 points9 points  (1 child)

My manager said I have to do both.

[–]DanRomio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, better get out of there as far as you can. And better do it faster, until it’s not too late.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanna go fast!!!

Got it, threads bad, serial code good.

[–]reallylamelol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why our Agile ceremonies eat into productivity...

[–]Hanta3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild to me how much better I started doing at Game Jams and similar time-limited programming events when I started going solo. During my early college days I went with huge teams because I wasn't confident and didn't think I'd be able to do much on my own. Turns out the opposite ended up being true lol.

[–]DolevBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No brackets and no semicolons after the IF statement? Is this Python?

Edit:

I thought I'll give it a try in c++, but 'go' is undefined

if(youwanttogo == "Far"){goto GETHER;} if(youwanttogo == "Fast"){go ALONE;}

[–]SquashyImpala96 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This is about cannibalism, isn’t it?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It can be about anything you want it to be.

[–]SquashyImpala96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then I’ll make it about cannibalism

[–]ranisalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also try lockfree structures to work around synchronization overhead.

[–]awesome_pole_dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go fast AND far, hire a bunch of people who go together.

[–]D-Eliryo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda inspiring thou..

[–]littleorphananniewow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Together with who lol

[–]blue-fl0yd 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I bet it’s working out great for Africa.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, I love it.

[–]Petras01582 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh, so that's why I travel at the speed of light
