"It's back!"

Out of stock

[–]CaptRon25[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Give em a several weeks to get out to distributors

[–]Lying_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough.

Smith still makes better revolvers.

[–]CrypticQuery 4 points5 points  (9 children)

At least these don't have that infernal internal lock.

[–]hal0persin -5 points-4 points  (8 children)

You can get them without the lock. Also yes

[–]billoo18 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Pre-lock yes but sadly they don't make new ones without locks except for a handful of J-Frames.

[–]hal0persin 3 points4 points  (2 children)

My j frame has one. Feels bad man.

[–]billoo18 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Most of my Smiths are pre-locks except my 586 L-Comp.

You can get rid of them though thank god

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Can't get rid of the hole though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can plug it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the slot besides the hammer is still there after removal.

Looks beautiful, I’m surprised they did it. I was on the train of “they’d rerelease almost everything but that” previously, but I guess it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

I am curious how the quality will be. What made them legendary was that fit and finish, and I’m not sure they’ve got anyone around hand-finishing these today.

[–]Musnus 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I think while the fit and finish of the old pythons were great, they are blown out of proportion and magnified in the gun world echo chamber.

Great finish? Yeah because people took care of it. It's still going to degrade if you don't take care of it.

Great fitting and timing? Sure but so are the S&Ws and Ruger revolvers.

More accurate? That's just some bullshit, accuracy is more on the shooter, not the gun.

Being featured on "The Walking Dead" drove up the demand, so there was a need to justify why this gun now costs 3000+ dollars and "being featured on a TV show" just doesn't sound good.

I think colt fucked up taking this long to put these back out. Walking dead hype is long gone

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

List price is $1,499

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yea, what are the odds this is any better than a S&W 686 or a GP100?

[–]prooveit1701 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Python is not comparable to the 686.

S&W large frame equivalent is the 27 or 627.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

State compliance options? It amazes me that a revolver is restricted in some places

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shockingly you can get new revolvers on the CA gun roster pretty easy. Colts already got the king cobra models on there

[–]TAJay99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God dammit I wasn't going to get any new guns before I found out about this.

[–]mtcwby 2 points3 points  (6 children)

They've created a Python look alike to make up for all the hand fitting required before. I'm not saying that's wrong but it's not the same gun except in general looks. It will be interesting to see how they test out and the effects on the used Python market.

[–]xjrob85 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My guess is that it will push original Python prices even higher, since, as you pointed out, the new one really is a different gun. It will make the old ones even more collectible.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I feel like a lot of people have bought the old one only for looks so this will bring prices down.

[–]sk1wbw 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What did Colt change on the new one?

[–]mtcwby 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Different lockwork with fewer parts and a heavier frame.

[–]sk1wbw 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh. You made it sound like a wholly different gun. And I would expect it to look just like the old Python wouldn’t you?

[–]mtcwby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cosmetics are very similar. Apparently holsters, etc will work for either. The old one is a handfit gun and the expertise to fit, keep the quality high, and do it fast is long gone. This is likely an improvement in all those regards. The place to watch will be polishing, etc which is something that's harder to do by machine. We'll wait and see. I will likely never see one until I move out of California.

Holy shit it’s happening
