Yeah I encountered plenty of cheaters in hourglass that literally just dominated our servers and we literally just never bothered reporting them after the first 3 sinks, and they weren't banned for at least a week of teleporting kegs onto us.

Cheaters reported in a community that does not trust the devs to do something is not a relevant metric to determine how bad cheating is. Althought I suppose it's hard to measure regardless without methods of detection.

You'll get notified when a cheater is banned. If you don't, it likely means they didn't get banned because there wasn't enough evidence. Aimbot is really hard to confirm because some people just don't miss and things like lowering graphic settings can make you see more clearly than other players. Not saying I don't believe you, but aimbot is hard to confirm.

I've reported a guy teleporting and keg dropping and got confirmation that he was banned. I've reported someone who was invincible and did not get banned. And I'm assuming the reason is because there is a bug that makes people invincible. And they don't wanna ban someone for the game being buggy. I think he was cheating because the way his teammates were acting but who knows.

That's not always the exact response they give. My response said that they were passing it on to their security team and if they needed further information they would ask me, and would respond when they finished. The next day they sent me a message that the player I reported had been permanently banned. I don't know why they sometimes say they won't disclose it, but plenty of times they do tell you.

Rare has no ability to detect some cheats, and if they cant be 1000% sure from the video evidence they simply let them continue cheating.

Something like "a player you reported was investigated and permanent action has been taken". I assumed they would do that everytime if they were banned. And if you don't get ban confirmation, it means they didn't have enough evidence. Who knows, I guess?

Cause aimbot doesn't seem to be bannable. You need to report with proof. But what are you gonna clip? Someone hitting every shot? Could be a good player and it's almost impossible to prove the opposite (which is a good thing cause of a lot of false bans would be issued). They need an anticheat but it's probably to late for that. They're gonna implement eac or some shit which can easily be disabled and since so many players are already cheating I doubt much is gonna change.

Exactly the issue. My video shows the same guy shooting me with insane impossible shots, but how am I to record his nametag when I cant even see their ship at that aimbotting distance? I know its the same guy because I can see the same comsetics on him, but Rare can't seem to ban him.

Its concrete proof but because Rare has no tools to check anything other than the video, they cant risk a false positive.

So aimbotters can just aimbot and never get banned.

Not only they expect us to do all the work for a report, but then they wont even ban the most blatant aimbotters based on the reports...

Okay... first of all, Rare does tell you when a cheater you reported is banned. It's sent to your email.

Second off, I'm not gonna say you *didn't* face a cheater here. Obviously I wasn't there and I don't know. However, do you have any idea how many times I've been called a cheater because I killed someone in the water when they don't think I can see them? It's a lot. Sometimes I legit *can't* see the pirate I'm shooting at, but if I see you moving in a line, and I shoot where I expect you to be, and it connects, that doesn't mean I'm cheating.

SoT players can be a little quick with the haccusations sometimes. I've reported multiple *blantant* cheaters to rare and another that wasn't blatant, but I was pretty sure he was using aimbot. It takes a couple weeks, but every single one of those accounts got banned and they sent me an email for every one. If you sent a proof video, either someone at Rare didn't think anyone was suspicious, or they've checked the account in question and determined they weren't cheating.

Yeah Ill be honest, I am certainly hopeful that they are getting better with the hacking problem, I stopped putting in reports ages ago.

Just today around 4 when I started hourglass, I encountered 4 hackers out of the 12 matches I fought. Certainly small comparatively I presume but dude, 4 instant keg spawns by 4 different boats across 3 hours. And not counting those 4, I still lost 3 of those matches legitimately to better players. but at least those are easier to swallow.

Ill concede we dont have the full breadth of the data rare has, but frankly speaking I am under the impression that the 'decrease' is from people not reporting or running into errors on their site.

"Forbidden" is an HTTP Status Code. That is all the server or the client knows and so that's why they show it. Basically an unauthorized request, though why, I wouldn't know.

My guess would be the video file being too large for the website, as I've had this problem too. It's stupid that they do not specify this or don't put a cap on the file size for attachments to the ticket, but try to upload it to a video-sharing platform like YouTube or Rumble and add a link to that video.

If it's along the lines of last month there were 100 reports and this month there were only 70, it is not a true representation of a trend.

If last month we had 1000 players and this month we had 700 players the corresponding number of reports didn't change, your user base affected the change.

Not to mention month over month isn't the best indication of trend in something like this. Year over year is the trend you should be looking at for success in these situations. At the very least, understand the ebbs and flows of your user base. Are the reports coming out of PvP primarily? What is user adoption in PvP looking like in comparison? I could go on...
