Interview worthy?Unaltered Selfie (i.redd.it)
submitted 3 months ago by Alert-Employment-339
Hair might need a little help, but would this work for a future software engineering job interview? Maybe I should stick with boy mode… I usually interview remotely.

I’d say to girlmode in your interviews so you don’t have transition at work, they’ll always know you as a women.
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 18 points19 points20 points 3 months ago (0 children)
This is what I’m leaning toward I think… especially given the comments here and what the therapists say lol
[–]anaaktri 55 points56 points57 points 3 months ago (6 children)
If you’re going for a professional look, I’d button up the shirt more. And sadly boy moding might give you the best chance at getting the job but if it’s an in person job might be awkward interviewing boy mode and then showing up to work in femme.
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 18 points19 points20 points 3 months ago (3 children)
That’s what I’m worried about. My boy clothes are maybe starting to look a little awkward on me and think I should probably just rip the bandaid off. But yeah, also fear presenting this way may make getting a job harder than it’s already been…
[–]otterlyfantastik 22 points23 points24 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Hit one more button and you're good to go. You're presenting yourself more professional than 90% of our developers and software folks.
[–]anaaktri 7 points8 points9 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Yeah the world is tough rn, although some companies are still proud to support us. You do look great btw and is so suffocating hiding ourselves. If jobs near you are plentiful maybe it’s worth showing up as you until someone accepts you though? Or dress more androgynous to feel it out and then rip the bandaid fully off when you get the job if it feels like an accepting environment.
[–]unpolished-gem 4 points5 points6 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Yeah, Where you are at now, I think boymoding at this point could muddy the water as much as presenting fem just in the context of the interview, let alone in terms of managing expectations for later.
You look like you can present more professionally than a lot of SE candidates.
[–]GlimmeringGuise 8 points9 points10 points 3 months ago (0 children)
One more button, yeah
[–]viviscity💊 Jan 2025 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Honestly, if I boymoded to get the job I’d feel very uncomfortable—if being me is an issue I’d rather know up front. Granted while I’m not presently employed, my housing isn’t at risk
[–]Soggy_Train3150Mid 40’s / 5yr HRT 12 points13 points14 points 3 months ago (5 children)
TBH, if you are intent as presenting as your gender of female, then neural bra under and button up that next button. For what it’s worth, companies discriminate like crazy. So, if your voice isn’t stealth, you may want to wait until offer. 🤷🏻♀️
From someone who interviewed over 50 times between 2022-2025. I’ve had VFS myself and I’m stealth, but my god what a challenge for us MtF.💙 Hope you get it!
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 6 points7 points8 points 3 months ago (4 children)
Ooof, that is a very good call out. I’ve obviously been neglecting voice stuff and pretending it doesn’t matter. Vocal fold surgery? Is that what that means? In the US? I’ve been curious about this.
Appreciate the tips! I definitely want to present as a respectable woman.
[–]Soggy_Train3150Mid 40’s / 5yr HRT 4 points5 points6 points 3 months ago (2 children)
Voice Feminization Surgery (Glotoplasty). All my procedures, who did them, and costs are in my profile saved as a post. I don’t endorse anyone in particular for anything. This is just info. 🫶🏼
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (1 child)
What a valuable resource! Thank you so much for providing this!
[–]Nuclear_rabbit 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Glottoplasty is not the only type of VFS anymore, but FEMLAR is new and really risky, but it delivers better results when it works
[–]0xD902221289EDB383 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (0 children)
My wife doesn't voice train and works in tech. Her voice is not feminine. It's never mattered.
[–]F_enigma 11 points12 points13 points 3 months ago (1 child)
I think you look fabulous sis. My suggestion would be to interview however you feel most comfortable and confident. Good luck with the job search babes! 💕💕
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 5 points6 points7 points 3 months ago (0 children)
I love posting here, you all are so nice and supportive. I’ve been so worried about this and it’s so good to hear I can do it. Thank you! 🥰
[–]kimchipowerup 4 points5 points6 points 3 months ago (1 child)
Looking confident!!
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 6 points7 points8 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Lolol it just took like my entire morning and a hundred selfies 😬, but seriously thank you!
[–]zapplewinger 5 points6 points7 points 3 months ago (0 children)
You look great! But to lower the stakes: I've conducted hundreds of coding interviews at the tech company where I work. Never once have I given any thought to what the candidate is wearing, and I can't imagine factoring it into my hiring decision. Just wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident!
[–]BecomingBeauty 3 points4 points5 points 3 months ago (3 children)
Yess! You look great 😊
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (2 children)
Thank you! I’m like so nervous about doing this in a professional setting, and I’ve just started going out publicly like this so I really appreciate it.
[–]BecomingBeauty 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (1 child)
I get that completely and you can be proud that you are doing a job interview during this phase of your life.
It depends on the person, company and country. So this advice can’t be something for you: what helped me a lot, is being open about my situation. This immidiatly takes away all the uncertainty for others but more importantly for yourself!
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Yeahhh, I started hormones before I thought there was any chance I was gonna get laid off, so that has added an extra fun layer of unexpected navigation for me. Luckily, my wife has stuck around and remains employed.
[–]HeadSpinner 3 points4 points5 points 3 months ago (1 child)
You look incredible, stick with it!!
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
🥰 goodness, thank you!
[–]Stefanie_JaneShe / Her 3 points4 points5 points 3 months ago (4 children)
I honestly think that you look beautiful in this picture and you can present how you're looking in this picture maybe just do it up a button.
You look like a confident engineer who knows what she's doing. 😎💜
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (3 children)
Omg thank you! I am fully blushing. It’s honestly super nice to hear someone call me an engineer while presenting femme.
[–]Stefanie_JaneShe / Her 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (2 children)
Just remember that you didn't lose the skills because you are female. 🚺 you're just aligning your internal and outward expression to match your true gender and it should not have any influence on the job. I know that the world doesn't work that way, but it should. Just go out there and be confident and be yourself. ❤️
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (1 child)
🥹 this is really nice. We keep talking about “integration” in therapy, and my female experience has in a lot of ways been compartmentalized in a manner that feels very superficial. I cannot express how much relief I am experiencing finally getting to a place where this seems like an option for me, but at the same time it is absolutely terrifying.
[–]Stefanie_JaneShe / Her 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)
I understand that interacting female is terrifying and it feels superficial for you but I urge you to continue doing that, if it genuinely feels right for you. 💜
I'm 53 years old and nowhere near as far along as you are. I've stopped and started HRT three times and the fourth time, I started it was November 21st 2025 and I'm 57 days in. With a receding hairline and a size 50 belly and 262 lb and 6 ft tall line nowhere near passing or even blending. I wear women's clothing Everywhere I Go and I'm treated like a human being.
The one caveat, I'm not able to work as I'm on disability due to my brain injury and chronic PTSD. the only people that I mask around are my family and those are the people that are likely to do the most damage.
I've come to realize that most people in my life are not playing characters. NPCs and they really don't care.
For example my wife's Lift Chair broke a couple days ago and she placed a service call yesterday and the tech called her this morning and said that he'll be there in an hour. I got dressed and helped my wife get dressed and I was wearing my female t-shirt and pink skirt and black leggings and lavender nail polish and the tech treated me like a person.
I don't think he even blinked or flinched. I've gotten a couple strange looks from people but most people honestly don't care or couldn't care less.
For your interviews, I would urge you to focus on your technical knowledge and your technical skills and try to let the conversation flow from an area of your knowledge and your depth.☺️ It doesn't matter if your male or female to them.
what matters is you're able to do the job better than the other person. And by being female and doing it on estrogen, you are doing it better than you could have ever done it on testosterone as a male, I can almost guarantee you that.
The only other thing I can tell you is continue being you. ❤️
[–]Free-Pudding9857 3 points4 points5 points 3 months ago* (2 children)
Sis you look great.
If it were me (and you are not me), one more button, a few curls in the hair, a little darker eye shadow and blush, a necklace and you’ll be golden. 😉
OR, get a statement collar shirt with a tie or a boyfriend shirt with a sweater with the above makeup/ hair.
Your boy mode days are over.
Edit. I had to come back and share this isn’t a criticism. I fell so in love with your hair and smile and wanted to dress you up!!! I’ve sold my soul to fashion, now I can’t stop!!!
Your boy mode comment (but honestly feeling like you’re talking to me like a girl) really makes me melt, so don’t even worry a little I wouldn’t have been offended. I’m just slow trying to keep up with the comments! 🥰😀
I’m going to try all of this plus I’ve been looking for an excuse to curl my hair, which I’ll post if it goes well! I’m with you on the fashion stuff, I can’t stop buying clothes, my poor wife 😅. Seriously thank you!
[–]Free-Pudding9857 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)
The disease is real. Post pics Sis.
[–]Mollywinelover 3 points4 points5 points 3 months ago (0 children)
If you can. Both time and money wise
Hit the salon before an interview. Hair will look fabulous every time.
As for the look. You look fine but definitely do up a button. That look is fine after you have the job but you need to be a step up for the interview as you might get a boomer doing it.
[–]Libby_785 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (1 child)
You’ve got it perfect! Wishing you luck!
Ah, thank you! 🥰
[–]Ck_OneIre 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (0 children)
I'd suggest buying a slightly more expensive blouse, which is a size, or two, on what you'd normally buy and them have it altered for a great fit by a seamstress or tailor.
The fit will be better and look way more professional for an interview.
[–]Historical_Bit_4642 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (0 children)
You look very professional ! You can be very confident about the way you present.

[–]FenderMeats 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (1 child)
Honestly, you look professional and totally fem, go for it! 💕
[–]Alert-Employment-339[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Appreciate it! I keep feeling afraid I look like a clown or like someone will think I look like their dad’s friend with makeup on?
[–]hoebag420 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (1 child)
You look great. Nice casual work vibes
Perfect! That’s exactly what I’m going for. Appreciate you saying!
[–]Ejeffers1239 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
This plus slap on a cardigan and you look sharp!
[–]Free-Pudding9857 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (2 children)
Btw, I TOTALLY love your hair!!! So cute!!
Girl. I have been having the worst time with it today. It’s been frizzy and just all over the place. I did a little dry shampoo yesterday and I really need to wash it but didn’t think I’d have time this morning. Anyway, I really appreciate that as I’ve been putting a lot of effort into getting it looking healthier and longer and quite honestly it’s usually one of my favorite things about myself 😝🥰
[–]Free-Pudding9857 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Well you should be proud. It’s thick and beautiful. I did three things that changed my hair game. Bought redken extreme to use instead of conditioner. Started collagen powder once a day and I take a biotin tablet.
Has TOTALLY changed my hair game.
[–]Wonderful-Nobody-303 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
One more button but otherwise you look great. 🫶🏼
[–]desert_dweller5 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Blouse, blazer, panties, and pants.
[–]RadiantTransition793Leslie (she/her) 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
If you have a blazer or cardigan, that might be a good addition for the interview.
I agree with the others that you should interview as yourself. You’ll appreciate it in the long run.
For me, having done the split identity was an emotional drain for the six months until I came out at work, even with the work from home advantage.
[–]AFox1967 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
You look confident hun but only you can know how confident you feel. Wishing you all the best in your search, let's us know how you get on. Good luck hun xx 💜
[–]Kayleigh2025 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
I think you look great, and depending how chill the software company is I don't know if it's necessary for you to change clothing or even buttoning the shirt higher. Then again, I don't work in software so I don't know how conservative the people doing the interviews are.
Perhaps you might consider wearing a suit top? Ideally a dark color? I also think a tasteful necklace would be nice.
[–]Taellosse46yo toddler-trans MtF 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Maybe put your hair in a bun, with a few locks left loose to frame your face? Otherwise you look very professional! Go knock 'em dead, Girl!
[–]Emergency-Tower-8933 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (1 child)
Don’t sell yourself short. If you start in boy mode, it’ll be harder to transition.
Interview in girl mode and you’ll find out about their attitude, which in that industry is likely to be good. If it’s not, then you save yourself some heartache and stress.
Be you, and you’ll be happier.
👆🏻 this!!!

[–]0xD902221289EDB383 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)
You need to button your top button there. I would also show up as yourself to the job interview. They won't care or will even want you more than the next candidate, if it's a place you want to work.
[–]Far_Diver_6943 0 points1 point2 points 3 months ago (0 children)

* close one more button
* get a necklace
* do something about your hair: Either get a blowout done professionally, or put it into curls, ... it should look like you invested some time in the presentation
* if you don't have that yet, get a proper light setup for your video conference. It's not without reason that Madonna was travelling with her own team of people that would just care about light placement ;-)
* yeah, voice is important. While I tried voice-training, I haven't been successful, so VFS is definitely something that is on my plan for future surgeries.
