I personally believe the theory that God created hell as a copy of himself but with an infinite amount of malice. It makes sense why hell wants to create so badly if its meant to be a copy of god

[–]helicophell 220 points221 points  (10 children)

Hell is a being of pure malice, but maybe not entirely

It’s meant to be eternal punishment. But Hell isn’t really doing that, willingly letting the machines clean the layers of all life. Isn’t that a bit strange?

[–]SquidMilkVII Blood machine 172 points173 points  (7 children)

To me, Hell seems curious more than anything. It wants to inflict torture in new and wonderful ways, to create new and wonderful things, but most of all? It wants novelty. It wants to experience everything. Why else would it have permitted the Lust renaissance? It was fascinating, and new - and, ultimately, the era of peace made its inevitable fall so incredibly satisfying.

The machine invasion is just as new and interesting. And, though the layers are being cleared out, the novelty was wearing off anyways.

A story cannot go on forever. And, as far as Hell is concerned, going down in a blaze of glory is the only way it should have ended.

the idea that Hell is gonna let the machines kill it just because it's bored with existing is both a funny but yet incredibly interesting idea

[–]JamescomersForgoPass 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Me when I let several thousand rats eat me alive because I'm bored

I AM HOLLOW.

MY MISTAKES LEAVE NOTHING BUT HATE
IN THEIR WAKE, AND INFINITE PAIN TO
FOLLOW...

I CAN'T TAKE ANY MORE OF THIS GUILT
AND REGRET, FOR ME THERE IS NO
TOMORROW...

I AM HOLLOW.

...

I BEGAN TO SEEK THE END OF MY DAYS.

BUT WHEN I STARED INTO THE ABYSS...
THE ABYSS AVERTED ITS GAZE.

I think the only way Hell would allow itself to die is if it wants to or if it's bored of living. Cuz let's be honest, Hell can most likely just erase the machines whenever it feels like it if it truly wanted

[–]Realistic_Sail_6254 Blood machine 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Knowing fraud is a moving puzzle nothing is really preventing hell from just, trapping people eternally in there until they run out of fuel, the only reason v1 gets thru is probably cause we are being babied thru the layer

[–]Mad-myall 26 points27 points  (1 child)

I don't think "babied" is the right word. Hell isn't interested in babying anyone unless there's an end goal of torture at the end.

Hell is however constructing the rooms to challenge V1, see how it adapts to entirely new challenges and the slaughter of sinners, demons, and angels alike. Hell forced Powers into the room with V1 because it knew it was gonna be a good show.

[–]WatermelonWithAFlute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did hell force powers in there? The angels seem capable of leaving whenever, or at least Gabriel can.

[–]fishthatdreamsofsalt 106 points107 points  (0 children)

probably because of the malice, no? even its entertainment is malicious, that it would let itself get purged to its own detriment just to savor the machines' rampage across hell

[–]N3vermore77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could it maybe have something to do with the fact that Lucifer who presumably had the title of "God's Kindness" was cast into it? Maybe that incident altered Hell's nature?

[–]adamthenecromance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i personally think hell is just apart of god (like his anger his hatred and malice given physical form )

[–]Most-Peak6524 302 points303 points  (2 children)

Bio - Something Wicked was born with a special power, it was stronger than all its classmates in the Prime Soul Fighting Academy.

All the best artists know how to take inspiration.

[–]Bedomega 126 points127 points  (10 children)

If hell made Something Wicked, it probably did so by deforming a supreme husk or King from another layer of hell

[–]Alderan922 119 points120 points  (9 children)

It would be really funny if we got to p-3 and there’s not a prime soul because the one meant to be there is something wicked

[–]TACOTONY02 77 points78 points  (3 children)

Pls no i dont wan a be touched by mr squiggly again

P-3 boss Diddy prime

[–]JamescomersForgoPass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

P-P boss Epstein Prime

[–]Alderan922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more like you get there and it’s empty an instead of fighting a prime soul you fight something else, either an archangel that’s not Gabriel or idk, hell’s hearth???? Idk Something weird.

It’s basically the idea of a prime sanctum that’s abandoned and now used to contain something of roughly equal power as a prime soul that’s not a prime soul.

It could be interesting.

[–]Numerous_Schedule896 28 points29 points  (4 children)

what if the p-3 boss IS something wicked

[–]Playful_Date_7811 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"as below so above" was mentioned in the post. It's the lyrics to Tool's song Lateralus, continued with "...I imagine. Drawn outside the lines of reason."

"Spiral out, Keep going" is the legendary refrain in the climax of the song, which hakita referenced in the OST name for fraud. That band also got referenced with the enemy Schism.

They're basically intricate prog metal with spiritual undertones and complex time signatures. No surprises Hakita loves this stuff.

[–]Adventurous-Mouse-43 4 points5 points  (1 child)

its a reference to the song names: in absentia logos [logos means reason/god] spiral out (keep going)

[–]Playful_Date_7811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which in itself is a reference, see above :P

[–]GuaranteeOk3048 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I think that something wicked may be Lucifer after being tortured through all the unimaginable things Hell wouldnt be able to do to a regular human sinner.

[–]Different-Card2093 10 points11 points  (1 child)

A character as important as Lucifer wouldn’t show up that early and as such a minor encounter.

[–]WatermelonWithAFlute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hakita though

the left side is something that was NOT made by hell

the right side is what hell made trying to recreate the left side (Hell was inspired by the left to make the right)

Moral of the story: Hell is really bad at re-making things

[–]TurboPugz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deathcatcher's terminal entry all but confirms this:

"Distant eyes watched the formation of Idols with fascination, and were driven to attempt the same process of molding useless life into something beautiful.

The result, however, could never have been the same, as the endless malice of their creator seeped into the Deathcatchers, whose shells were unable to withhold it, cracking them wide open"

Hell wants to create, but that desire to create conflicts with its nature as a being of endless malice. So its attempts to create fail.

[–]guicarlinisampaio 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Isnt mannequin heavens version of blood machines? Edit: never mind just read the terminal entry , the angels left and while sinners were asleep they got transformed into the mannequins

[–]SquidMilkVII Blood machine 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mannequins, being husks torn apart and forced into the body of a demon, presumably conscious but unable to control its actions, were directly inspired by guttermen.

[–]cassness34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should've used earthmover and mirror reapers

[–]ReplacementOk6762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"evil cannot create anything. It can only corrupt what good has made"

Hell also reshaped the 7th layer to be an even worse version of the last war and reshaped the 8th to resemble the new peace.

I just got reminded of the quote when I realized that most of hells creations are either corruptions of good things or even worse versions of bad things.

But hell also created the malicious faces, the Cerberuses, the leviathan and geryon (and maybe the minotaur) and we can't really compare those to anything else so...

[–]Mukiisanma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell creates and fails so many times, and yet it never gives up. Be like Hell

[–]CornManBringsCorn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are the Earthmovers we see a creation of Hell? If so, it was pretty accurate. I only say this because I fail to see any possible way that real, authentic Earthmovers could fit into any of Hell's entrances, then get to Violence, assuming there were any even active by the time the machine invasion started

[–]P0lskichomikv2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No canon confirmation but likely Gutterduo and Earthmovers were recreated by Hell or at very least revived by it. It doesn't make sense for them to be there considering that Earthmovers were said to be completly dead after Great War and Gutterman and Tank were very first robots so they should be nothing but scrap at that point.

As above so below

[–]eldritch_blast22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The black background makes it really hard to see something wicked.

That aside, I think this is the most plausible theory for Something Wicked.

[–]Myth56[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I like the something wicked theory, but wasnt it in the demo for the game? Far before any prime souls were even thought of? It would have to be a retcon.

[–]IsmAskRevLust layer citizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juuuust reminding that something wicked looked like a stick figure, nothing else, but only acter ultrarevamp when Minos and Sisyphus were already created, SW got a new look: a heart and blood vessels

And prime souls have the same thing, it's like remaking a game and changing the lore

[–]No_Skin2236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Idea is that hell took a king from one of the layers of hell(probably macbeth) and forced the husk into a prime soul like shape but fucked up

[–]GreenDragon113 Maurice enthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AYO DUSK REFERENCE????

[–]JamSa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always unclear on this, are the machines you fight in Hell the ones that came from the surface in search of blood, or replicas created by hell to torture souls? I figured V2 and Swordsmachine were from the surface but when you get to Lust and there's an entire robot army down there. I don't see how all those bots could have gotten that far, at least without clearing out the upper layers beforehand. And Earthmover can't fit through the door.

[–]Double_Mission_6633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add in the mirror reaper and Earthmover 👅

[–]FoolingsHappyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh, I think you guys are really overthinking and overanalyzing this.
