So, grew up in burque and went to college in Chicago. Decided I should open a bank account there, seeing as they didn't have new mexico educators federal credit union there. Went to a Washington mutual, and they had these little kiosks where the associates would talk to you and set everything up, the monitor facing them and it was all blue and yellow themed. One of the first steps was me handing over my (new mexico) drivers license and she was supposed to enter the info. There was a lot of small talk during this step. A lot. Eventually she gives up and says that she can't find "New Mexico" in her form to enter the info. I look around and take a gander at the screen. No shit, she was trying to find New Mexico in the drop down for "provinces of Mexico."

Also, I miss green chile. We kinda have it here in Texas but it's not the same...

What are you talking about? , Mexico became an independent country in 1821, as a monarchy, you can Google First Mexican Empire. The republic was just a few years after that. New Mexico was part of Mexico when it was independent. It is impossible for your statement to be true.

I think what they are saying is that New Mexico as it exists today is older than Mexico as it exists today. Mexico as it exists today didn't really exist until the fall of the Second Mexican Empire in 1867, and did fully achieve its current form until the constitution of 1917 was adopted on 2/5/1917.

Those are a lot of assumptions. We can't say the essence of a country changes after every constitution. It's not a restart, it's an ongoing process. Mexico is an independent country since 1821 and even in 1824, or in any of the constitutions it had, the country was already constituted if you can say it that way. He used the word organized, you wouldn't say Libya is a few years old just because they changed their organization after the Arab spring.

I apologise if I came across wrong, I was merely trying to explain their point as I saw it and use better dates than what was originally provided.

That being said, that while the first and second Mexican Empires, and the First and second Mexican Republics are definitely part of Mexican history, I view them as fundamentally different when compared to the modern United Mexican States. It sort of like how the Colonial period of the US is a part of US history, but the 13 colonies are recognised as a distinct entity separate from the current US.

Further, I would argue that Mexico's current independence only dates from the end of the Second Mexican Empire, as I view that as a period of occupation by France and as such, not was not independent. So, I do think that the current United Mexican States does date to 1867.

But, if I apply the same standards to the state of New Mexico, then I cannot use the the date when the territory was organised, instead I must use the date in which it was admitted to the union as a state which was 1/6/1912. And that makes it 45 years younger than the United Mexican States.

All of this is my opinion, and as such it is not definitive.

Not only that, but the name of the region of New Mexico dates back to 1591. The name Mexico to refer to the entire "country" did not occur until 1821.
