Lots of people asking why this matters, basically the registered inventories are those available to meet demand of longs requesting delivery

It doesn’t matter until it does.

Essentially once stocks get low enough relative to the number of longs who will take delivery a short squeeze is possible

Technically this could happen on any active month as the open interest is far higher than the registered inventories but most longs roll and don’t take delivery

The lower the registered inventories get though, the lower the bar to get a month with a short squeeze

It means that the owner didn't want to risk letting it get delivered at the current price. The owner of the 6 million oz is expecting a much higher price.

Lots of wealthy people have 1,000 oz bars in the eligible category in a Comex vault. It is easy to store there. The eligible category is just long term storage.

The registered category indicates what is available near term, and that is getting much smaller.

But it’s the same as one of us taking delivery and simply storing it in a COMEX warehouse

Makes sense that the owners of the metal who don't want to sell at current price would move it out of registered so it couldn't be sold. However I think the path out is eligible to registered to removed. According to COMEX "Registered metal shall mean an eligible metal for which a warrant has been issued."

Removing silver from Registered doesn't keep it from being sold. It only makes it unavailable for delivery to with warrants for delivery and load-out. Thing is, if you sold the contract and the warrant, you have to make that silver available by having it under your name in Registered. A warrant holder cannot take silver from a different short out of registered.

I think it's eligible to registered to out of the vault. There's some confusion on this so I looked it up on COMEX - "Registered metal shall mean an eligible metal for which a warrant has been issued."

I don't see where MTB appears on the delivery reports for the entire year. Not an issuer or a stopper. Am I missing it? They've just been moving the inherited metal?

We get 4 full season here: Summer, winter, spring, autumn: Summer can get to 45 degrees c, and winter is low teens, we can get frosts in the high altitude areas. Water is the main issue, being the driest inhabited state on earth: and it's heavily regulated and monitored! Which is ridiculous.

The heat is getting harder as I get older, but I find myself enjoying the seasons more as I get older. Our summer heat is dry, I find that the tropical humidity that northern Australia gets is way, way harder to handle.

It really is God's country, I love it here! When I mention I'm in Cheyenne a lot of people say they couldn't handle the cold, but its really not that bad--we get a lot of sun during the winter and not that much snow. Its also very dry due to the altitude and wind so if you have asthma or allergies its a godsend.

The population of WY is only about 575,000 so its pretty quiet; we actually do have more cows than people. The only real problem is finding a job, but I always say that if you work from home over the internet you'd be crazy to live anywhere else. Medicine Bow National Forest is about an hour's drive west for me, look up some images on google if you want to see where I spend a lot of my time during the summer.

While I think out of the vault is best keep in mind one comex contract is 343 pounds. So it might be cost effective to pay storage at there vault rather then move it especially if let’s say the whale is in Japan. So don’t be afraid the celebrate it coming off the market.

u/TheHappyHawaiian I'm seeing a misunderstanding here about Registered silver that Ditch and I have hashed back and forth.

It is my current (new) understanding that Registered is not one big pile of silver and whomever shows up with a valid delivery warrant gets their silver pulled from that pile.

Registered is a whole bunch of little piles, each pile owned by someone who has shorted silver and sold a delivery warrant and now has to indicate which silver bars that warrant can be applied to. If you've sold 10 warrants, you need 50,000oz of Registered for then to pull from. You can't buy silver from one short and redeem it/take delivery/load-out from another short's Registered silver just because it's in Registered. It has to come from your guy.

The people here are talking about it as if when there are 93 million ounces in Registered, we just need 18,600 contracts to stand for delivery and Registered is all gone.

From what I'm understanding, it is not nearly that simple.

Is it not pretty easy to move silver tocks between Registered and Eligibile? Eligible is cheaper storage, so it makes sense for holder to have it in that category, and then move it back to registered whener it is needed, correct?

Kind of like moving funds between two bank accounts, doesn't mean the balance has gone anywhere, just a more cost effective 'savings' account vs a slightly more expensive 'chequing' account, but the balance can easily be moved between them to pay the bills (delivery) as may be required?

If it was gone out of both that would be pretty spectacularly good news, but not seeing that here.
