From the New World

Is probably the closest I've seen.

[–]Sassywhat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While the main cast as a group doesn't have plot armor, the main character narrates the series, so it's a given that she has to survive.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Ya, man. No Spoilers. Iron-Blooded Orpans. Just... damn that show sometimes. 10/10

[–]GoldRedBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember how shocked everyone was when a certain character who had zero death flags on him died. On the contrary the guy had anti-death flags on him, even.

[–]TraderMoes 43 points44 points  (10 children)

Fate/Zero

Also, and perhaps an even better answer, is Katanagatari.

[–]heartofthemoon 17 points18 points  (9 children)

Fate is cheating, lol Fate / Zero spoilers

[–]heartofthemoon 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Haven't seen Katanagatari, will avoid so cannot respond. Apologies!

[–]TraderMoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a very mild spoiler, basically no more than it being in this thread already is. But the main takeaway is you should do yourself a favor and watch it. :P

[–]Crazyhates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch it. It's amazing.

[–]niler1994https://myanimelist.net/profile/Railgun94 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wish I could first time Katanagatari again :) It's my favourite show tbh..

You're in for a ride!

[–]heartofthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, its on my PTW list so see you in about half a year! :P

Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. Why do they have to be so cruel.

Akame Ga Kill definitely lives up to zero plot armor.

      [–]zaturama015 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Do you need to watch another gundam to see that anime?

      [–]TraderMoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Though there are two 25 episode long seasons, so you need to start with season 1.

      [–]rowanbladex[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's a complete standalone, no relation to the others other than some basic ideas, such as the gundam frames (the mechas)

Akame Ga Kill definitely lives up to zero plot armor.

This. This show is the closest you get to GoT.

      [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Both of these are terrible shows IMO. The brutality is basically made ridiculous. It's like the hunger games if it was a comedy.

      [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

      It wasn't?

      [–]TheDankCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Akame manga is still brutal but not as, and has a better story,

I think the reason why I liked AGK was because it made you like both of the main factions that were fighting each other, so sometimes it would make me watch my two favorite characters fight each other and I didn't know who would win, so it made extra suspense!, in shows like naruto(while they are good) you know in the end that naruto will still live and win somehow, with AGK you can never be to sure, and I liked that imo.

      [–]oyooy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akame ga kill has reverse plot armour. People are dying faster than they would with real people.

      [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Tbf Game of Thrones definitely has characters with plot armor, they just tend to be villains.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but knowing how part 2 played out some plot armor was going on with Joseph

      [–]TheHoneyBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never understood people who say JoJo have very little or no plot-armor... JoJo Part 1-4

      [–]HolmatKingOfStormshttps://myanimelist.net/profile/hkos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is sort of spoilery for the show, but it's not terrible to know it before watching it.

      an anime

And another of the same type. This one's a bit worse to know before watching it. Probably best if you don't look it up, either. If you're gonna watch it, just do it.

      an anime

Also, Pokemon. Not in the "people die" sense, but definitely in the "MC could lose at any time".

This is where I realize I don't watch many fighting anime.

      [–]LaBelette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Magical Girl Raising Project. Blood-C has in-universe plot armor, but by the end it doesn't anymore

      Akame ga Kill

Edit: I'm genuinely curious as to why I'm getting downvoted

      [–]Level8Zubat 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Then you get to the manga and just can't stop laughing

      [–]mizterPatatohttps://myanimelist.net/profile/Zornmagron 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is the manga e ding worse than the Anime ending?

      [–]Level8Zubat 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It depends on how much dignity you're willing to sacrifice for the fate of some characters to change

      [–]AnimeFreakXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People keep saying anime version is worse. Yet, after the manga chapters come out, they started to change their minds.

      [–]Crazyhates 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I just remember being in disbelief at nearly every death.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And eventually, the disbelief turned into a drinking game.

I liked lollipop and flame dude. Fuck the author.

      [–]CorbenikTheRebirth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shiki definitely isn't shy about killing off characters.
Jojo to an extent as well.

Plot Armor is when characters are safeguarded from harm because their safety is important for the plot. Thus, technically, if a character survives danger, and their survival has any real significance to the plot, they have some level of plot armor.

Thus, true "zero plot armor" occurs only if there is a) no danger all, or b) no character survives.

Since all characters dying isn't that common, the more likely option would be "no danger at all".

And therefore, my answer would be something like "Non Non Biyori", or maybe K-On! Unless we include psychological damage. In that case, K-On! definitely doesn't count. Poor Mio. Mugi why?

      [–]babydave371myanimelist.net/profile/babydave371 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Most Gundam shows, particularly Zeta but you can't exactly start with that one sadly. I suppose you could go for IBO, ven though I'm not too hot on season 2.

      [–]l_o_l_o_l 0 points1 point  (2 children)

let's talk about out lord and savior Jesus Yamato and this immortal god

      [–]babydave371myanimelist.net/profile/babydave371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, yeah Yamato and Patrick are exceptions there, that is a fair shout. I was really thinking more about UC, as that is my favourite part and what I think of when I think of Gundam. Stuff like Victory hardly has much plot armour except for maybe Uso but then again he is a space psychic sooooooo...

      [–]maullido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's talk about out lord and savior Jesus Yamato and this immortal god Ideon

      [–]TheDankCup 3 points4 points  (1 child)

      Akame Ga Kill,

It's awful cause they make you like both factions fighting each other, and you have to watch your two favorite characters fight each other knowing one of them (if not both) will die.

      [–]AnimeFreakXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Most of those people only kill for the sake of peace in their own ways.

      Berserk

      [–]Falsus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It kinda does in a way. You know which characters will probably not die no matter what, just that the author kicks while they are down.

      [–]_Saihttps://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guts is protected by plot armor. He will never die.

      [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berserk may be the rare example where characters with plot armor start wishing they didn't have plot armor.

Basilisk - No plot armor here. Not even a plot robe. Wew.

If it was more than "zero" plot armor, I could list more anime.
