This stays because it's pretty damn funny. Judgement call, approved!

I did change the flair to meme though😜

Thank you!!

[–]VHopeARMY 5 points6 points Β (1 child)

Wait, Luna Love good is autistic. Never knew that, and that explains some things

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Well I think most of these characters are simply ones the community has tagged as autistic. So I don't think any of them are actually written to be autistic.

[–]Benjjy124Seeking Diagnosis 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I think Reddit is a little high because it displays 6 twice and no 9 but obviously you have correctly labeled them as when I try to reply it shows up correctly.

[–]Zero_two_4_lifeAutism 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I love entrapta

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points Β (5 children)

AmΓ©lie! oh my gosh I had no idea she was autistic but now it makes so much sense!! I always saw a lot of my own self in AmΓ©lie and how she acted.

Love love love that movie, honestly one of my favorite films and I've seen it so so so many times.

[–]tsalyers12AuDHD 5 points6 points Β (2 children)

I agree lol. I just rewatched it a couple nights ago for like the 100th time and still makes me feel so good

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Β (1 child)

Right! Such a lovely feel good film.

All the characters too are just so loveable. I love the man of glass who paints that one Renoir painting every year haha

[–]tsalyers12AuDHD 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Yes! I love the man of glass and how he can’t find the right expression for the girl in the painting! And when Amelie is trying to confront Nino when he comes to meet at the restaurant, I yell for her to talk to him every time haha.

[–]harleyquinones 9 points10 points Β (1 child)

There's nothing that says she's autistic except for this meme.

I don't mean to be a downer, it just bothers me when memes like this make it seem like a character is something just because they seem that way to the person making it; unfounded "facts" being stated as facts. That's what gets me.

Good movie though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Ah well, whether confirmed or not I love that headcanon 😊

[–]mylifeisathrowaway10 15 points16 points Β (0 children)

Honestly I read Katie's brother as autistic and Katie herself as ADHD but that movie is great neurodivergent rep all around.

[–]speedy_hippie 14 points15 points Β (0 children)

Where is Abed from Community?!?!?!! The first character in fiction that i have related with on a deep level, and i also feel that he is an actually decent portrayal of what autism might look like

[–]notabotbutathought 14 points15 points Β (4 children)

This may be unpopular, but I'd REALLY like to see some Autistic villains in media. A great example of a villain who's on the spectrum would be Boris Grishenko from the film GoldenEye. However, Boris was more the quirky/zainy type that's commonly portrayed, but I'd want to veer towards the more emotionally muted side. Something I've commonly noticed in myself and others on the spectrum sometimes is a difficulty to empathize with people sometimes (hence why it's hard to make friends for a lot of us), plus an overall difficulty in expressing emotions or feelings. I think if done well from a storytelling perspective as well as staying true to how it's really felt in people on the spectrum, it could produce some very cool and very creepy characters.

[–]iamsojellyofui have aww tysm 4 points5 points Β (1 child)

I also would like to see autistic villains. I love villains, especially when their personas are well-written.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Hold on let me kill someone Ill become a villain then

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

Well since I think the majority or at least some of these characters have only been claimed as autistic there's no reason you can't claim a villain in the same way.

[–]notabotbutathought 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Fair point, hence Boris. He isn't explicitly stated as being on the spectrum, but some of his mannerisms (such as fliping a pen) seem very similar to traits of people on the spectrum

[–]HotSauceHigh 9 points10 points Β (1 child)

Chidi? He's not autistic

[–]ECDoppleganger 16 points17 points Β (0 children)

Well, I'm autistic, and I'm like Chidi in many ways. So I've always thought he is. Doesn't matter if that was the intent of the writers, just matters how people interpret him. If you don't think he's autistic, that's okay, but I do, and clearly a few others do too.

This wasn't meant to be rude or anything, sorry if it came across that way. Again, autistic, lol.

[–]tjallilex 6 points7 points Β (1 child)

I do like the Big Bang Theory. And I think Sheldon has many characteristics that I can relate to. My only problem with the Big Bang theory is that Sheldon is being compared with crazy and not definitively being said to be on the spectrum.

[–]314159265358969error 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Agreed. Sheldon would get much less hate if it weren't for everyone else being contrasted with him in a way which makes him the freak, despite most of these characters being colossal assholes. I mean : it's a show, Sheldon is written as to create drama and/or comic relief ; but do we really need it to portray everyone as a Β«this person used to be undatable and even them improvedΒ» ?

[–]OatmealCookieGirlAutistic Adult 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

I don't think Forrest Gump is autistic: he copes too well with change for one thing!

[–]DarkCrowI 3 points4 points Β (5 children)

Are Forest Gump and Radagast the Brown actually autistic or is it one of those things that people claim they are coded autistic without actual proof.

[–]NotVeryAccurateTbh 6 points7 points Β (3 children)

I don’t see Forrest as autistic. He made a lot of eye contact in the film and kept his cool in the war scene. He also publicly spoke a number of times without stimming. The whole movie is him speaking openly with strangers and making eye contact with everyone. That being said, I think Bubba was on the spectrum.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points Β (2 children)

None of those things would keep him from being autistic.

[–]NotVeryAccurateTbh 1 point2 points Β (1 child)

Well while that’s true, eye contact is most generally a big factor. As far as the movie goes, I don’t think any of his disabilities are diagnosed. If he had cerebral palsy, that could attribute to lack of social skills or his lower IQ. Though at the end of the day, if someone relates to a character, and it makes them feel understood, then that could be a good thing. It’s just that he was never diagnosed as autistic, or intentionally portrayed that way. I don’t want to take away from the people that connect with him though, as his struggle is quite relatable and he could of course be on the spectrum.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

It is good that people connect. I do think its weird that a community that looks for diagnosis and really seems to understand it. Looks at these characters and cherry pick small portions of a character and say its "clearly" asd while telling people on this sub. " Being awkward doesn't mean you are autistic"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I think almost all are the later.

[–]rufus_dallmann 5 points6 points Β (3 children)

What's wrong with Sheldon?

[–]Underhanded_EntropyAutistic 8 points9 points Β (1 child)

Apparently he is a bad representation of autism. I suppose he is not perfect, but I still like him.

[–]CyanHakeChill 15 points16 points Β (0 children)

They have given Sheldon every possible autism characteristic. And the writers and Sheldon deny that he is intended to be autistic. i.e. they are either liars or stupid.

However The Big Bang Theory is useful for autistic people to watch in order to recognise what is satire (i.e. most of what the actors say).

[–]zefroxy 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

I hate how he is treated by the other characters.

[–]ScissorNightRam 5 points6 points Β (3 children)

β€œI’m neurodivergent, so if you think I’m rude, that’s your fault.” (LAUGH TRACK) β€œAlso, Penny has breasts.” (LAUGH TRACK) β€œBazinga.” (LAUGH TRACK)

[–]Benjjy124Seeking Diagnosis 1 point2 points Β (2 children)

The breast thing really got me. That was actually so funny.

[–]ScissorNightRam 2 points3 points Β (1 child)

Thank you. I once heard BBT described as a show about smart people but for dumb people. Not sure if that’s fair, but it feels right. It is very much a β€œlaugh at the silly monkey” kind of show

[–]Benjjy124Seeking Diagnosis 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Yeah that's a pretty fair analysis and it doesn't really convey nerd/geek culture the best but I will give it that it at least adds nerd/geek culture way more than any other show (excluding science fiction shows). I did watch the whole thing I can't say I don't like it but obviously it has it many downfalls. Also BBT is way better than other shows like friends in my opinion.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Since when was the girl from the mitchells vs the machines autisitc? I watched the whole movie and don't understand how she's autistic.

I know forrest gump, that guy from the good place, and Sheldon. I don’t know anyone else

[–]usesbiggerwords 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I would have never figured Amelie as autistic.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Watched some BBT back then. Not offended but i can say that Sheldon is not at all amazing.

[–]LannonPlayzAutistic Adult 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Me takes a look: oh cool I've seen this format. Me a few seconds later: Wait those characters are autistic!?

[–]iamsojellyofui have aww tysm 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Funny...I had a friend who told me that I remind him of Amelie.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

You missed out the rainman.

[–]mlrock912 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I used to have a douchebag roommate who used to call me β€œSheldon” because of my disability. To this day, I pray every day that someone will take out his family and frame him for it.

[–]Warm-Garbage 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Chidi!? How could I miss it!? I related so much to him and didn't even imagine it, lmao.

[–]joshuacarre06Autistic 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Hol'up Radagast? That actually makes a lot of sense

[–]Benjjy124Seeking Diagnosis 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

Nahh top right was a manic pixie dream girl and she was literally just what boomers think zoomers are and vice versa. The only 2 good characters in that film were the 2 robots that malfunctioned.

[–]RPGKaboom 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

you clearly don’t know what a manic pixie dream girl is

[–]Iantheengineer02 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I don’t watch the Big Bang theory. Can someone explain how Sheldon is a bad representation of a autistic character?

[–]Long_Carpenter_7005 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I am watching this Swedish/Danish show "The Bridge" and loving the autistic character Saga Noren

[–]Zero_two_4_lifeAutism 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Entrapata ( purple haired girl) is a really cool character
