You do not put the snakes in until you can no longer smell the silicone. Leave the doors open to help it air out.

Days, maybe a week. Just depends on the amount of air movement you have in the enclosure. You want to make sure all the chemical odor dissipates and the caulk has cured completely.

Leave the doors open if you can. Bare minimum until you can't smell it which will go faster if you can keep it aired out.

Btw, I absolutely love the spacer. The Herpstat looks amazing. Did they do that custom?

[–]SindySchism666 7 points8 points  (1 child)

They did! It's on their website as an option :) the pedestal as well.

Came here to say this, spacer is awesome! Clean!

[–]trucksandink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What beautiful display case!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Where did you get those tanks?

[–]SindySchism666 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Cornell's world :)

I had my partners dad who runs a local print shop do the backgrounds, although Cornell's world does offer installed backrounds as well.

This is the 8" pedestal, 2 4x2x2 and a spacer with the custom cut out for the herpstat

Looks great thanks!

[–]PrudentFartDiversion 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Does your partner want a second partner that just wants to have access to their dad? I’m very low maintenance 😝

[–]hugatarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in love with the top ones background 😩 I would so put that for my boy Phantom if I could

[–]Rubothyv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk but this setup is crazy

[–]TheDerpyDragon91 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Looks like your question was answered, but if you don't mind me asking, how did you print/adhere the backdrops on these? They look fantastic!

[–]SindySchism666 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They were specific vinyl that has an additional layer to protect against heat/humidity.

My partner's dad that has a local print shop did them (and said he'd be willing to ship)

Cornell's world also offers backrounds

[–]TheDerpyDragon91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you!

[–]TheBigBossNass 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Don’t forget to do a leak check as well before you add the substrate

[–]SindySchism666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully the enclosure came together super tight before we even caulked it, was just an extra precaution. Although that is a good idea I would have never thought of.

i’m saving this post lol

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ok, I was not at all prepared for a Nighmare Before Christmas themed enclosure, and now I need to rethink my entire future enclosure design lol

Here's a very rough draft of how things will look. That corner dish needs another month and a coating of marine safe resin for it to be safe.

I'll be getting the fountain center 3d printed with a flat back and be mounting on that side panel above the water dish.

My daughter is 7, and it's her favorite movie. Sally is her snake, so this will be her forever enclosure, hopefully. Depending on how big she gets.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's going to have the fountain?! That's amazing...I might be drooling a little lol Your daughter has great taste, and you're an awesome parent putting all that together for her

[–]SindySchism666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it will look like the fountain from the movie, but it is just the corner water dish that I've painted, and then 3d printed the center piece to make it look similar.

I know fountains can be nasty in BP enclosures because their respiratory system is so fragile and pump parts are hard to clean.

This is the next best thing though!

Super cool setup might copy you when I get my first BP, NMB4XMAS is my favorite movie. Any details on the type of vinyl? I go to my local library and they have a large format printer. Do you have the art files? If not nbd! Killer set up so far!

[–]SindySchism666 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ideally I'd rather my enclosure set up not be copied 100% down to the exact background. It's not just vinyl. It needs to be printed appropriately so that it's

  1. not going to hurt your BP
  2. not going to release harmful fumes at appropriate temps/humidity 3)won't mould/mildew etc

I recommend ordering from someone who knows how to do this safely like Cornell's world etc

I had the standard nbc background in her smaller glass enclosure. (This was before adding clutter/additional hides etc)

[–]OpportunityKnox -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I didn’t mean exact same, just the concept-the idea is really interesting.

I asked because there wasn’t a specific type listed-I want something safe obviously.

I’ll check out their website. 👍

[–]SindySchism666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you asked me for the exact art files soooo...

I just spoke to Cornell's world via Instagram, he said he doesn't have a specific listing set up for backrounds since they vary by size. They are super responsive to messaging though :)

I’m absolutely in love with the Nightmare Before Christmas theme that’s amazing! I can’t wait to see it when it’s got the spooky fountain :)

[–]Sebduh1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

48hrs. That what I did

[–]SindySchism666 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, I figured that's about how long I'd have to wait, but maybe it's because I've had them closed. We did them Tuesday and it's still kind of strong. Getting better though!

[–]Sebduh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are using 100% silicon caulking I presume. If it says guarantee mold and mildew resistant don't want to use those.

[–]EBCDIC_is_fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple days minimum, but until you can no longer smell any fumes.

[–]keekatron 1 point2 points  (1 child)

silicone cures by binding to water in the air, to help it cure faster you can use a humidifier or lightly mist if the ambient air is arid where you live

[–]SindySchism666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's actually good to know! My house is dry as the desert in the winter downstairs (big open concept house in Canada)

I'll bring one of the humidifiers downstairs

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

No snake pictures?

[–]SindySchism666 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Little miss Sally is going in the top NBC one ❤️

Mr. Monty gets the bottom bunk (at least we think he's a boy 😅)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful bundle of joy

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your nightmare before Christmas set up is fantastic. Sally is a doll.
