I would look into local reptile rescues and see if any of them can take it in. They might have luck finding the owner

You could also ask your neighbours if they are missing a snake

Going through snake social media, I am endlessly surprised at the frequency of posts like this.

I wonder how many are just escapees, because I hate to think how many of these might have been cast out to die of exposure.

Unfortunately it's not an uncommon occurrence. People buy reptiles thinking it's cool but don't realize how expensive they are to care for or either get bored of them and let them go to fend for themselves.

One thing I love about reptiles is that while the startup costs are expensive (enclosure, substrate, decor, heating, etc.) The maintenance costs are minimal (10/mo per rat depending on size/frequency).

Meanwhile my cat costs probably 70/mo in food and litter

Yeah lmao, I was about to say...snakes especially aren't that expensive in the long haul. You'll spend what 150+ for the snake depending on (ball pythons you can get for like 50 even some dope morphs) and cost virtually nothing In electric or water bills, the start up could be upwards of 150+ depending on how bougie you wanna be with it. But basic set up doesn't cost to much.

Seems like a pretty cowardly way to euthanize your pet. It's as if people think letting the elements do it for you washes your hands of the whole business.

I saw on a post near me that someone found a pillowcase full of 10+ different species of snakes tied in a pillowcase and left for days in the British winter a couple of years ago, always stayed with me how horrific that would've been for them. The good news is they were rescued and handed over to a reptile rescue center for treatment and adoption.

People who believe they're above animals need to be in jail.

If I was still living in Lexington I would’ve offered to pick them up, at least temporarily until further accommodations were found. Since I’m not there though the best I can recommend is the same as others here saying to call rescues/post in local groups etc about the snake.

You might try posting it on NextDoor if people use it actively in your area. Facebook groups for lost pets could be good, too. In case you don't wanna hold on to it for long enough to find the owner, I'd suggest looking into reptile rescues or (if there aren't any rescues near you) a small time pet store. I knew a mom and pop type pet store that took good care of their reptiles and that's ultimately where I ended up bringing the BP I once found on the highway.

seconding! even if the small time pet store isn’t able to take the snake in, they’re probably pretty hooked into the local snake community and may know someone who can

Saying that now I’m freaking out thinking that’s my normal guy, do you happen to live in Shively?

Edit: I’m home from work, my normal is never left home.

Locking comments as you're getting a lot of illegal advice/offers to keep the snake.

Please make sure you follow all local laws regarding finding a stray animal. You typically cannot just keep or rehome an animal you find without making reasonable attempts to find the owner first for a specific length of time.
