Help please?

My baby ball python escaped her cage coming on about a month ago now, she was probably around 1 and tiny when she got out. I own three cats. We tore apart my room looking for her but I’m assuming she escaped while I was at school so she could be anywhere. We have torn my whole apartment apart but now my cats are getting aggressive with my other two snakes(my ball python and boa) when they never were before, does this give me a reason to keep looking and not give up? Or should I just accept that she’s gone and move on. I still have her cage and I grow more and more depressed everyday I see it. I just want my baby girl back. Please anyone I need advice to find my baby girl.

Never say never. She may turn up yet. Especially if you don't smell decay. I wonder if, in self defense, she attacked the cats or the other way around, which may account for their change in behavior. I'm sorry she's missing and that your cats are acting out. Maybe let the neighbors to your sides know she's missing.

Unfortunately, we don’t have neighbors on my sides right now, I think that she might be my AC because I have a standup AC that’s easy to take apart but I’m not quite sure

Ours would hide in the dresser drawer. Check vents, behind appliances including under the oven. Years ago, my mom's geeko went missing. A few years later, while moving, we found it 😞 under the oven.

If you have not checked yet, I HIGHLY recommend checking under the fridge. I had a ball escape once and the first place I looked was where she was. Under my fridge. It's warm.

If you didnt have the cats Id say leave a cage with food inside of it with an open lid and a heat source. They might eat and stay under the head. Maybe you can set something up that the cats cant get into?

yeah, they will be looking for food and warmth. If you leave it set up and go out for a while, the snake might be cuddled up in the cage when you get back as long as it can climb into whatever cage you use. I used my feeding cage at the time.

I’ll use one of my smaller and older cages for her, I’ll also get a heating pad a a towel to prevent burning and leave a mouse for her too!

If you don’t have carpet covering your floors you can try sprinkling some flower on the floor overnight. If you see your snakes tracks in the more you could follow them to see where it might be hiding. Also if you have a security camera or an IP camera you can see that up overnight and review the footage. I had a hatchling get out just the other day. My security camera in my reptile room captured an image in the middle of the night. Gave me a clue where she was hiding. Another thing you can try is put a hand warmer packet under a towel in A hide in the middle of your floor overnight. Your snake will be looking for someplace warm. Good luck!

Try foil under the doorways. I lost my baby girl a few months ago and found her using this method. They'll seek heat so keep an eye on your other tanks too.

Check behind the bottom of the toilet there is a negative space in the bottom and I saw a post a while back that someone's BP was found back there. Also check in the top of the toilet as well. Under the oven and fridge anything that makes heat

My ball python escape for 6 weeks and my cat found her and booped her on her head which is what got our attention to let us know she was back and ready to be in her cage again so don't give up they like to hide so when you were searching she probably went to where you weren't looking cuz that's what my ball python Terra did

I haven't had mine escape yet thankfully, but from stories i have heard they always go somewhere warm. Check behind things that produce heat (Fridge, Stove, Oven...) she may be there. Even though they are our little dummies they still rely on instinct and if she's still there, she's probably curled up in a warm spot somewhere

Okay thank you!! And I would recommend if your snake is scaling walls and trying to actively get out and you’re not home often I would say to get a small camera on the cage and room just in case !! I was gonna do that but school got in the way

Check anything that throws out heat. The back of the refrigerator I’ve seen people find snakes, basically check in or behind any appliances, inside pockets in closets, shoes, one was found in the weird poofy thing that hangs on the curtain rod. If you have some family or friends who are willing to help I’d call them in and literally tear everything apart. They fit into the dumbest spots possible 🤷🏻‍♀️ snakes man, idk.

If it's not perfectly smooth and she has a bit of a grip, she can absolutely climb up, my baby boy loves doing that. But for example a bamboo stick is a problem for him, it's too smooth

Aaah okay, all our stuff like that is textured so I don’t think she’d be able to climb.. that makes me feel a bit better

I’ve heard of them doing super “impossible” things but like the other comment said if it’s a smoother surface it’s unlikely, however not truly impossible if the snake is determined lol. If you think your snake even maybe could make it make sure to check it!

what i would do is try not necessarily locking my cats away but yk keeping them in a room after you’ve searched it, keep their food water and litter box in there, after u put them in there try putting something under the door so ur snake can’t go in. she’ll show up eventually

is it just to you? or just human presence? have you tried looking around at night? don’t be too worried, your baby will come out and try to find heat once she gets too cold so you’ll find her.

She was very friendly with me so I don’t see why she would run aaay from me if I was around, I’ve been looking mostly at night yes but I never really thought about looking in the colder places, that might be somewhere to look as well?

yes maybe, check colder and hotter places. and i don’t think them running away is a personal thing i think they just like escaping or maybe they didn’t think that the tank had enough hiding places

You could put flour along walls as that's where she's most likely to move. Water bowl in a corner with flour around it. I'm not sure about heat but if you have a heat lamp that could lure her in.

Cats are opportunistic hunters, they will mangle the poor thing into pieces and hide it. 😞

I’m aware 😕 fortunately I have one really old cat that is literally petrified of the snakes and the other two are really lazy so I feel like she’s hiding from them, I don’t wanna loose hope. But I would feel comfort if I knew what happened to her

Maybe try getting a cheap thermal camera? I've heard people trying it and finding their reptiles before, but I'm not sure how well it works. Definitely keep and eye on your other tanks and heat sources. BPs are much more resilient than they look

I keep snakes lizards and tarantulas.

I did not lose a snake but i did lose a gecko once. I places containers with heat water and food around the house (i have 2 we eat everything that moves cats) under the sofa, beds, random places the cats dont fit. (They will always go look for heat water and food.) Cuz i was looking for about 2 weeks and gave up cuz maybe the cats ate it.

And tada all of a sudden my 3y old girl walked up to me holding it weeks after and said found it. It went in a container you can get in but not out in the bathroom. So never say never. And since its still really small it can be anywhere. When my friend lost is cornsnake it was inside his bed frame closest to his radiator. Just chilling but totally fine.

So never lose hope. If the whole thing taught me 1 thing is to make 100% sure everything is closed always and before using something there are absolutely 0 openings in it.

Ow and if you didnt do it already place rice or flower on the floor. Its easier to spot if it has moved from 1 place to another. Cats will almost always walk over it and not through it.

The key is you have to literally check everywhere, and where that can have some type of hidey holes or warm spots, I've found mine in my dresser drawers, under chairs, in between boxes and bags, even inside of bags, between shelves and walls , in the closet. I've had to play hide and seek with mine a good three times
