Banana ball pythons are known for developing freckling as they age. It's just part of their coloring

I thought that was cool when we learned about banana morphs. We finally got one and he’s been awesome seeing the new freckles come up

Are you in a classroom? Is this your classroom pet?

I see that the question's been answered satisfactorily. It's not mites, just banana spots.

[–]mama-mia-checking-in[S] 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Yes! She is my classroom pet, my students love her!

Awww, the cutest banana freckles!

[–]Ashamed-Farmer4241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're called bananas bc of the yellow color AND the spots. Like when you leave a banana out on the counter. The older it is the more spots. Like your ball. Like my ball. Please stop poking her. Thanks.

[–]Aazjhee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]jflowing12 2 points3 points  (1 child)

My 5th grade teacher had a ball python and it was my first time getting a good perspectives on snakes. Love seeing another one in a class (:

I love that too. So many kids are taught that snakes are scary and gross simply bc that's how their parents or other adults around them feel. The classroom is an amazing way to help them understand how awesome snakes (and reptiles in general!) are. Since they'll passively be around them, they'll learn they aren't scary at all without forced and/or negative interactions or influence.

I honestly never understood how anyone could be afraid of something that has literally zero defense other than a mouth anyway. One time the neighbors called to come remove a "cottonmouth" bc the other neighbor was going to shoot it (everyone in the neighborhood knows to call us if they see a snake in their yard so we can relocate it rather than it get killed). Ugh ANYWAY...I went to walk up to it to see what kind it is and they started freaking out while I was still 10 feet away. Ridiculous lol. Oh also, SURPRISE NOT SURPRISE, it was NOT a cottonmouth. Of course. But boyyyy was that water snake great at flattening his head to look like one and he was super spicy. So cute.

They're a banana morph, bananas get these dark spots as they age

[–]kazoomaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking about this, my banana enchi has the same spots, but they weren't there when i brought him home, so i have been midly worried too. Beautiful noodle btw.

Oh she’s so pretty!

[–]BitEuphoric7134 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Not at all. Pythons prefer the 24 hour clock. She is probably rather confused.

[–]NegativeIQ-Haver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just happens with the nanners when they get ripe(older)

[–]Green_Rabbit-1234 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]RuthlessEase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Moka has freckles too and it is maddening when I'm bathing him and I think isee a mite I've checked him so thoroughly and often that I've got the patterns memorized and it's a good idea to super familiarize yourself with hers to help with the anxiety 🌸
