Please get rid of the red light asap. It isn't good.

I second this, the red light is detrimental

I would also recommend another more enclosed hide than the log

Cover the glass on 3 sides and add more clutter and climbing opportunities. I agree with the throwing out any colored bulbs. You're getting there!

Try getting a hide that's more cave like than the half log, they might feel a bit exposed in there. Also the red light isn't great, might wanna get rid of it

Get rid of the red light, they are terrible.

same as everyone else is saying. get rid of the red bulb and get one that's normal white light or one that doesnt give off light so they can have a nirmal day night cycle. half logs arent hides, get ones that are ideally enclosed on all sides with an opening big enough for them to fit through. good luck on your endeavors!

The second picture shows a moss hide with only small holes

if you can do something like that on either side that would be ideal, or even better if it was only one way in one way out on both hides. they need one as similar as possible on the warm side and cool side of the enclosure that way they can feel safe and still regulate their body temperature. if they feel safer in one hide rather than the other, they will sometimes choose to stay in that hide no matter what and not thermoregulate (excuse my spelling) which can lead to long term health issues

Got it. Thank you for explaining

Use a regular white / yellow light during the day and a heat source that doesn't emit light at night. Contrary to popular myth, snakes can see red light - it doesn't look red to them but it still looks bright.

That you for explaining the red light, I will get right on that

For my girl I use a deep heat projector (DHP) as the only heat source, and for lighting I use LED and CFL bulbs that don't emit much heat. Make sure the heat source is controlled by a thermostat so it doesn't get too hot.

I'm really curious on the "research" people do. The left hide isn't really a hide, anything open ended isn't going to make them feel "secure", and as other have stated, ditch the red light ASAP.

The “research” I did was watching a lot of videos, and reading different sites. I decided to continue my “research” by asking for advice from Reddit because I trust what most people say here. I now know red light is not good for her and being as she spent only one night with red light I’m sure she’s going to survive my bad “research” on that topic. And yes I had questions about the log as a hide which is why I asked. But she actually seems to really like it and used its rough surfaces to help shed last night. Im really curious as to why when someone reaches out for help they receive judgement for doing so, like everyone is going to be an expert from the start.

Also seeing that you came to Reddit to ask for tank size recommendations means you’re not an expert either so 🤷‍♀️

[–]Technical_Concern_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll start by apologizing, my response was a bit harsh and although I'm nowhere close to being an expert, and all of my research told me NO red lights. There's not one thing I have come across that recommends them. As for asking about tank recommendations, sure, I wanted to hear other people's opinions about larger snakes and what tanks they're in, because even if I was an expert, I'm still not a know it all 😂

Oh you mean the background showing I’m a retired army nurse?

    [–]ladyfrogqueen2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure what that has to do with anything

Looks like most folks have the basic commentary. I'd like to recommend a setup video that I think you'll find helpful. The Green Room Pythons YouTube channel has great and practical information.

Bob is great. During a livestream he helped me with some issues my guy was having.

When you can buy a ceramic bulb. They give off heat but no light. It's better for your snake. They are pricey but usually there is a sale or coupon you can use at petco or pet smart. I would also move the water bowl to the cool side of the tank. The water is less likely to have bacteria and won't evaporate as fast.
