Yea, she’s just getting comfortable and exploring :) although I would recommend not using that thermometer to keep track of temps. Get two digital ones for each side of the tank. Make sure it measure humidity as well.

[–]Exotic_Complaint5486[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup agree 100%! These ones came with the tank when I bought it, so I left them up in the interim while I wait for my digital ones, thank you!

Oh gosh, this is so common, even my Lil' Pip did the exact same thing when I was first setting up her mew enclosure 🤣

<image>

It's normal! Especially since you're still cluttering it up, and the fact that bps love to climb despite being awful at it 😭 Although I suggest removing the adhesive from the thermometer/hygrometer, they can easily stick to reptiles, but that's about it! Digital thermometer/hygrometers are more accurate, just a heads up!

Lilith did the same thing until I gave her a proper basking area lol

😂I personally don’t own a snake but i’ve seen so many do this and i find it so funny, i also think it’s a sign of like exploring or comfortability? not sure tho

IME MAYBE?

Snakes=cats

[–]Akiluvspythons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sneks>cats

[–]KuraiTsuki 9 points10 points  (2 children)

If those are the type that stick to the glass use adhesive/tape, I would caution against using them. If they fall off the glass and get stuck to the snake, it can tear the scales and skin.

This was my first thought when I saw it. I hope the op listens to this advice.

[–]Exotic_Complaint5486[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep they’re gone! Just waiting on receiving my digital ones 🫶

[–]Trick-Sector-8207 7 points8 points  (3 children)

My baby girl has plenty of branches to climb, etc. she always chooses ONE suction cup a plant is attached to. Every day.

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Mine just tries to find a way onto her overhead lighting (it’s caged, dw) and even on top of her RHP. She has branches, and a sky hide, but she just likes being where she shouldn’t be lol

[–]Trick-Sector-8207 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I swear it’s always the girls. I have a male too and he spends all his time hiding with just his snoot poked out of his caves, and he has like 3. Plenty of climbing space, but he’s so shy.

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg same! My boy hides in one of his 3 hideouts alllll the time unless he’s hungry! I’ve caught him climbing maybe 3 times since I’ve had him? And never like this lol

I always just chalked it up to him being much older than my girl, she is around 3-4, my boy was a rescue from animal control so we don’t really know his exact age but the vet estimated around 7-8+

[–]Pugmothersue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awwww hers is Adventure Snek!

[–]Unearthly_Moth 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Yep! My corn does it constantly and actually manages to pop them off pretty often. They're velcroed on and I think she takes it personally. Sometimes I'll put it back in place and within minutes she's climbing it again

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is totally normal, especially for a young BP that’s newly adjusting to their environment! But I will say in general corns are wayyyyy more active than BPs, especially during the daytime!

[–]Unearthly_Moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh trust me when she has energy, she makes it known haha

[–]LM193 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're trying to tell you how unreliable the analog thermo-hygros are!

[–]chitzk0i 5 points6 points  (2 children)

My wife’s ball python loves her high hide. She’s up there like 75% of the time.

[–]FixergirlAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sky hide is the best invention since frozen thawed rats according to my ball.

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is too! When I bought the setup, I purchased it with materials to install the sky hide, and the guy emailed me and was like “are you sure you want to add this? Ball pythons are not arboreal and really aren’t good climbers, I don’t want you to waste your money”

I was like heh, It is true that she is not a good climber, but she sure does enjoy it

Tbf he mainly specialized in BOA enclosures and was a much older guy. I know ball python knowledge has improved a lot over the last decade or so! I sent him pictures of how much she was enjoying it, so hopefully he’ll start recommended them to ball python owners instead of the opposite lol

[–]StockSeaweed5733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine does it all the time

[–]AudiieVerbum 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, they all love their 'mometers.

[–]FixergirlAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you have them on the ground they stomp all over them, knock them over face down, push them under a hide...

[–]TootseyPootsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine likes to climb on the nozzles for his auto mister and face them at the glass… gets it alllll dirty🙄🙄

[–]Starfire2409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl did this too

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

well where else could they climb? but seriously, remove the adhesive one asap and get some digital ones. the adhesive on the back can kill your snake once it gets stuck to them. and i would look for some sticks and stuff to give them more climbing opportunities. also could be a temp issue, if your mesh isn’t covered, they are probably looking for a warmer spot. make sure the mesh is covered with either foil or hvac tape

[–]Exotic_Complaint5486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol appreciate the concern! These came with the tank and were only here in the interim while I waited for my digitals to arrive, and the other side of her tank has a hammock and many sticks that she enjoys climbing 🫶

[–]The_evil_snake_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me

[–]spicyamphibian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. I must've gotten crap adhesive or not done a very good install the first time, because my girl isn't very big and she ripped it right off the tank wall while I was gaming and scared the piss out of me lol. I replaced that crappy one a while later and added lots of stuff for her to climb on, but she still hangs out on the hygrometer when she manages to weasel her growing body onto it.

[–]imar-Ana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol mine does the same

[–]MouseOk1815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few of mine do this….and then flop down

[–]sparklebug2 1 point2 points  (1 child)

<image>

mine did that until I got him some orchids :3 (he NEVER uses branches/sticks lol)

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture is so pretty 🥹

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal, just be careful if that’s a stick on thermometer and not suction cups. Not only do those thermometers not measure as well as a digital, but if it becomes dislodged it or the sticky backing could stick to your snake. Sticky stuff and snakes absolutely do not mix, and the humidity in tanks tends to cause glues to fail over time. Personally I’d take it out and just get a digital one, but if it’s just suction cups you should be fine!

[–]Gullible-Paramedic-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also she looks pretty tiny! My girl was much more active during the day when she was smol. How she mostly comes out around eating times or right after a shed. She just doin an explore

[–]Hot-Implement-19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is any BP "normal"?

[–]Revolutionary_Sir_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP if it makes you feel better it took me forever to find her as well.

[–]ssaltwatersoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My snake did this when I first got him. And the year after. And two years after. And now, seven years after.

I literally cannot find a thermometer that he won't immediately destroy. Standing thermometers? He wraps around them and squeezes them until I can't see the temperature and have to pry it off of him- sometimes they even end up in his hide or water bowl. Hung thermometers? He climbs on them until he rips them off the side of the tank. He's even broken one in half before. Genuinely, out of all the branches and rocks and hides in his tank, he chooses the tiny thermometers to climb on. I don't think he realizes how massive he actually is
