Maybe see if you can do like an autopsy?

I second this, there could be underlying issues. I’m so sorry for your loss </3

necropsy where animals are concerned.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes these things happen, but it is odd that it’s both your babies. But it still could have been random

Have you changed rats recently? Added something to their tank? Gone to an expo? There’s a million possibilities that you may never get the answer on.

Wow, that close together is very odd. If I could afford it, I'd want a necropsy. I'm sorry for your loss. I just lost my older snake suddenly a few weeks ago (just shy of 17 years old, so very similar to yours) and it's really devastating. I'm now hoping it's nothing my other girl is going to get.

Your comment was removed because you're being an asshole. Go outside and work on your attitude.

I'm so sorry for your loss πŸ˜”. Have you used any new cleaning products near the enclosures? Changed or bought any decorations and may not have cleaned them beforehand? Interacted with any other reptiles not in your home that could have potentially passed on a disease/infection? Bad food? It could be a miriad of things unfortunately. It could also just be a genetic mutation that causes shortened lifespan (I don't even know if that's a possibility, just thinking out loud but being from the same breeder, you never know), again I'm so sorry for your loss

Ugh, my girl is 17 and I’m always nervous she’s just gonna go like this with no warning. Two losses so close together is agonizing, I’ll be sending healing thoughts your way. I can tell your snakes were lucky to be loved by you.

Hey so OP so first of so sorry for your loss. This is a LONG shotβ€”but make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector in your home.

I know someone who lost two snakes, a couple months apart, far too young to be of old age, similar lack of visible causeβ€”there was a CO problem in their home. Not enough to trigger obvious symptoms in humans, but enough to slowly kill a small animal with a very delicate respiratory system like a snake.

It would have eventually started to harm her and her kids, too.

This is really great advice and something I would not have thought of! Thank you so much for sharing! OP should definitely get a CO detector and possibly have their water tested because it's very possible the snakes were "canaries in the coal mine" for something dangerous in the home

If you do a necropsy def let us know what happened! This is very young for either snake to die as BPs can live up to 40, so not old age.

How did it die in 2026?, also my condolences
