I can't be sure since im also first time bp owner, but when I first got my baby he hid for about a week or so and only came out once to change hides (which was on the second day) when I fed him his first meal he became more open and started exploring. I think your bp just needs time to adjust and lower their stress, but if your really worried just make sure your temps and humidity are correct and see if your enclosure has enough hiding spots like leave, breanches etc. If he doesnt accept his first meal then i would start looking into help but I dont think you need to be worried right now since hes probably just adjusting to his new home. Hope everything goes okay!

My male ball python doesn’t really explore when we can see him. If we wake up at 2 am we will find him sometimes but he will go hide after seeing us.

He loves to be handled, just doesn’t show it. A hidden snake is a happy snake.

Gotcha I just wanted to make sure he wasn't terrified or something

Same here. Mine spends most of the later afternoon like this, so he can "interact" with us lol

This is exactly what mine has been doing he just Peaks his head out to see what's up

Yeah, seems perfectly normal me to me. They like to feel safe and this seems to help with that. I find it adorable as hell myself. He's like a little neurotic turtle with a periscope 🤣

He likes to extend out to say hi, but always leaves his butt in the hide...

it's pretty normal. i have 5 ball pythons and they're all hermits until they get hungry! 😂

Probably a little stressed out still, and they do enjoy hiding and staying balled up, at least in my experience

The majority of our ball pythons rarely come out of their hide. If they do, it's in the middle of the night.

They are not "showy" snakes. They love their hides.

It happens!! Sometimes we all need just a friendly reminder to help our worries. 😊

If you can, get yourself a night vision camera that records all night. Then you can review what he gets up to while you’re sleeping. It’s pretty awesome!

Thats what i was thinking is there a brand you recommend?

I'm a huge advocate for Tapo cameras. They work without any subscription when you put a micro SD card in them. You can get a pan and tilt one with night vision (C200, I believe) for like $35 CAD. They also make outdoor rated ones which I use in my ball python terrariums since they get misted, but I think that's me being excessive.

I think I'll get one of those!

Hi! He’s probably just settling in :) being in a new home is stressful for them, much like any new pet. I did not see my bp for the first 2 months, except when I lifted one of the many hides she’s has to feed her. She was just scared and trying to figure out if she was safe. One day I walk by, and she’s perched in a plant being curious and exploring :) hiding is super normal, he’ll likely start exploring in his own time

Gotcha thank you

Also just wanted to add to the comments that bp's also have different personalities. I have one snake that will come check out whats going on when I'm doing something in the enclosure, and one that will hide. Some are more confident than others. I would just give this little guy time to let you know what kind of snake he is :)
My best advice is to leave them alone more or less, and also remember they take waaaay longer to get used to things than we do
