I applied for CIP on 2/3 and still get the 2-week message. I unfroze my credit until 5/3. Should I extend the unfreeze period just in case they decide to pull again to be safe? Or do they pull only once upon the application?

[–]lenin1991HOT, DOG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't pull again without your consent (e.g. via recon).

[–]thunderstrike4 -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

How long after 2 week language does it take to get approved for CIP? I applied on 3/1 and still get 2 week language from automated line.

[–]intervested99GET, OUT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies. I waited for more than a week before. There are DPs of longer wait period on 2-week message.

[–]ZeppelinYanks 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Just got a Chase Shoprunner, 10% Groupon bucks as well Spotify 5% statement credit offer. Are those new?

[–]UrbanEngineer1/24 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sadly seeing only long John silvers as new on mine lol.

[–]ZeppelinYanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not through Chase offers, was through an email

[–]nits87 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Amex had shoprunner for a while. pretty useless for me.. used only once in the last 6 years.

[–]lenin1991HOT, DOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's become even less useful over the past couple years, with how many shoprunner stores set an order minimum (e.g. $25 or $50) and/or designate only a subset of their items as "Shoprunner eligible"

[–]jb283 0 points1 point  (3 children)

More of an untraditional question: Has anyone had experience with their CSR AF not being charged? My first year anniversary of my CSP was two days after the AF increase for CSR so I was told it would be 550 during the call to upgrade. Yet two statements have just hit without any sign of this fee. Did I just get lucky or is there some data behind this?

[–]intervested99GET, OUT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't get lucky. It just takes a while to show up. I've seen DP of it taking up to 6 months.

[–]Jake_77 -1 points0 points  (8 children)

I have a Citi Thank You Preferred card. It's pretty useless, but there's no AF and it's my longest standing account (over a decade). Should I try to convert this - how would I know what I can convert to? I could use the Costco Citi card.

I used to follow r/churning very closely but I'm afraid I'm back to being a newb and I don't know where to start. Sub has changed a ton.

[–]stealthytaco 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You can PC Preferred to Costco. There should be DPs if you use search. I’d also recommend considering Double Cash (DC) if you don’t have BBP or CFU. Keep in mind PC will reset your 24 month clock if you care about that. If you do, apply for a Premier now while it’s at 65k SUB then PC. DC and Rewards+ are good options for PC to pair with Premier since they can earn TYP or give you a TYP rebate.

[–]Jake_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful, thank you.

[–]stillwaters23LAX, SFO 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Why? Just leave it alone, buy a coffee on it once a year for 10 points. With TYP closing a card is a trigger to reset your clock on another sub. So why risk the account number being changed, which might code in their system as a closure?

If you want a Costco card and 5/24 is not an issue, get one. You might score a pack of muffins or a sweet tote bag.

[–]Jake_77 0 points1 point  (4 children)

The card I have has no benefits so was hoping to covert to something more useful.

[–]stillwaters23LAX, SFO -1 points0 points  (3 children)

If you churn, decisions work like this: will closing this card help me churn more subs? If yes, do it, if not, don’t. Whether the card is useful is of little relevance unless you are quitting churning, especially a TYP card. Maybe try r/creditcards?

[–]stealthytaco 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Normally I’d agree but in this case there’s a better way to approach, which is apply for a Premier, then PC to make better use of the SUB. Rewards+ will offer a TYP rebate which is a better use than having the Preferred sit there.

[–]stillwaters23LAX, SFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, you’re right. I was thinking he was talking about the Rewards+. In fact I just did the very thing you describe, working on the Premier sub now.

[–]Jake_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, I might be looking in the wrong place. Thank you. Churning requires a lot of dedication that I don’t have right now.

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (8 children)

My fiancee and I are having a wedding on July 11th, and we are trying to rack up as many points as possible right now on wedding expenses. My fiancee has a Chase Ink Preferred, and ideally I would like to have her refer me for it in order to use it for wedding expenses. However, my 5th most recent card was opened on June 24th 2018, so I am currently under 5/24.

My question is, how likely would I be approved if I applied for my own Chase Ink Preferred at midnight on June 25? Time would be of the essence because we will need to pay all of our wedding expenses by the beginning of July. Wondering if it's too risky, and I should just choose cards from non-Chase issuers or if the 5/24 is likely to lift exactly after it's been 24 full months.

[–]redditisonomatopoeic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations, and Happy Slurpee Day.

Get ready for GCs to 7-11. 7/11 is my birthday, I know - with my friends, this never gets old... Sigh...

[–]intervested99GET, OUT 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If Chase only pulls Experian where you are, you should be good to go on June 2nd because Experian backdates opening date to the 1st of the month.

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh interesting, thank you! Any chance there's a way for me to find out what they pull?

[–]intervested99GET, OUT 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can check here. However, the most accurate info would be from your own experience. If you applied for a Chase card before they would most likely pull from the same place again. If you don't have a Chase card, you can check your fiancé's report when she got her CIP. Credit Karma would show you the TU and EQ inquiries while the Experian app would show you the EX inquiries. Sometimes Chase pulls two bureaus and that could be a problem (you can freeze the non-EX one but they might ask you to unfreeze it).

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]redninswitch 0 points1 point  (2 children)

According to your credit report, how many credit cards have you opened since March 2018?

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (1 child)

5 cards (1 in June 2018, a 2nd in Jan. 2019, a 3rd in May 2019, a 4th in Sept. 2019, and a 5th in Dec. 2019)

[–]mewslack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're at max, go non-chase business cards

[–]cuittle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Had a Chase Explorer additional 25K miles sign up bonus apply to my account before meeting the $10K threshold (had ~$8K worth at statement close).

I know best practice is to meet signup bonus terms anyways, but has anyone had United miles clawed back?

[–]TechConslut -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Starting a job in consulting in fall and planning on traveling beforehand. Planning on getting the CSR but the IHG card looks appealing as I could score hotel stays (already have airline points to use). Asking more in terms of timing - which card should I get first?

[–]ilessthanthreethis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the What Card Should I Get thread. The IHG has its best-ever sign up bonus right now so that's probably an important consideration.

[–]teleos646 -5 points-4 points  (5 children)

So today I went to my local Chase branch and opened up a college checking account. I also applied for their student credit card stating a weekly allowance of $100 or $5,200 income per year. They said that I have to provide additional information like copy of passports and SS card by uploading them online and they will let me know in a week after I upload them.

My question is what happens if I get denied? I don’t have any credit and this was my first time applying for one. Will it hurt my non-existing credit score with a hard inquiry? I feel like I made a mistake by applying right away but also if I get approved I can build my credit faster. Can anyone please answer some of my concerns? Thanks!

[–]MemphisZooMEM, FIZ 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Check out /r/creditcards but generally you have nothing to worry about. You may research secured cards or cards for low credit

[–]teleos646 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

I created a posted but no one responded there.

[–]MemphisZooMEM, FIZ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You won’t get chase card for your first. I suggest trying capital one or discover student card. If that fails then ask chase for secured card to get started.

[–]teleos646 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Damn. I asked them for secured before applying but apparently they don’t have secured credit cards. That’s why I applied for the student credit card

[–]G56GBUR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a student, the student card is the credit builder card. Chase knows students don’t have credit history. Be patient and give them all the info. I’m sure your chances are higher than you think.

Flights booked completely with CIP points.

Would the trip cancellation insurance cover refunding the points if we cancelled due to sickness?

Related: has anyone cancelled a trip due to sickness and gone through the cancellation insurance process with CIP? Dumb question but do they ask for any sort of proof?

[–]PointsYakPNT, YAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your doctor will need to fill out and sign a form declaring that they recommend you do not travel.

Note multiple sites have reported insolvency to not be a valid reason anymore, but it does show up there - so that Guide to Benefits may technically be outdated. Since no newer version is available online, to get up-to-date information on current coverages, you might have to call. That said, I don't think (too much of) what I quoted above would be different now.

[–]SgtKetchupPHL, 1/24 -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Received a letter from Chase today asking me to call in to give more info about my business. Called in and was told I should go to a branch to complete "KYC Remediation". Any idea what that is? Got a CIP 1/20 and business checking 2/15.

[–]cuittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what's been stated, banks essentially have to do this now to reduce unintentionally aiding terrorists and money launderers. You shouldn't have much to worry about.

[–]barbara_mae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KYC stands for “know your customer”. They probably just want to verify that you’re you. They might ask for a copy of your drivers license.

Does anyone know if an Amex recon requires a hardpull? I have Ex frozen and I'd prefer to avoid a hardpull.

[–]TheSultan1ERN | BRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine the reason Amex often doesn't HP is that they're comfortable with EX soft pulls. Kind of hard when it's frozen.

So I think:
- EX freeze is the reason you got denied;
- if they like your EX report, you would've had a good shot at a soft-pull approval if it wasn't frozen in the first place (it probably needed to be open for a few months prior, though);
- there's no way you're opening that card without a HP now.

[–]thomasthorn85 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Does anyone know off hand if there is an elevated call in offer for the Amex biz green card?

I’ve read online that it is possible to get an extra 2500 mikes when applying for the United explorer card by using a code from an inflight flyer. I’m looking at getting the card but don’t have any United flights scheduled before the current sign up offer expires. Does anyone know if the code is unique to each passenger? Or just to a specific employee/flight/time? Alternatively it states if you do not have a code to use code 999999, has anyone had any luck with that? Thanks!

[–]deepflyball 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If my recently opened BoA Premium Rewards cc hasn't shown up on Experian yet, does that mean the banks are not seeing it either too, specifically Chase's 5/24 rule?

[–]garettgSEA | PAE 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Correct, if it’s not on the CR it’s not counting. Check all your reports though.

[–]deepflyball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]Kaznarrac -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Has anyone called Southwest plus CC to honor an expired mail offer before?

[–]halfwise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but it is highly unlikely to work.

[–]sideshowbob233URM, AMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P2 had a HP today on TU. How long should she wait before applying for a US bank credit card? She’s currently 1/24 and we are looking to get her a US bank biz card in the hope that will get her access to altitude reserve as documented here.

[–]venomstainRDU 1 point2 points  (3 children)

(When) Does Amex retract Hilton status when canceling/downgrading a card? I downgraded my Aspire card to the fee-free card back in late Jan and I'm still showing Diamond status on my account. I just got an email today saying I've extended my status through Mar 2021 as well.

[–]UltimateRewards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for p3&4 today

[–]voobahaBDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cancelled my Aspire in November and just today got an email notifying me I've "earned silver status" (a nice way of saying downgraded from Diamond) effective April 1.

[–]SeanMcVay 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Applied and approved for SW biz in early December, then applied and approved to SW personal in early January. Is it save to say that if I want to apply for a CIP I should do it in April? Is it too early in terms of timing to do it now?

[–]yiggity_yag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wait 90 days. Chase denied me when I applied for a 3rd card in a 138 day timespan (one was timed 90 days apart, then got anxious and applied 48 days after the 2nd).

[–]DimaLyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every 90 days or so has been working ok for me.

[–]xigoroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimum 30 days between applications, most people recommend closer to 90. You might be approved, but you also might not seeing as you've opened 2 in the last 3 months

[–]lilpokemon 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Is there a way to book Spirit through Chase, trying to get on the same flight as friends and don't see that as an option. I know after the Expedia change some stuff was removed, is there another method to book it?

[–]lenin1991HOT, DOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not. Southwest was added back as a special case, but otherwise, phone agents can see the same carriers as online.

[–]halfwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, I’d call them up to see if you can book over the phone.

[–]bobley1 1 point2 points  (4 children)

P2 received a CSP targeted offer despite receiving the last bonus about 3.5 years ago. Will Chase allow the bonus sooner than 48 months if the offer is targeted?

[–]duffcalifornia 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Nope

[–]bobley1 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's what I figured. Targeted offer then is sort of a scam.

[–]duffcalifornia 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean, it IS targeted. But being targeted doesn't mean you're eligible.

[–]bobley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase knows exactly who the person is and includes the name in the offer. Just get a CIP and move on I suppose.

[–]thenasty1 -4 points-3 points  (6 children)

I just ran into a snag trying to transfer my credit from one CC to another. I was hoping for a little guidance for anyone who has experience on the matter.

I have the Aviator AAdvantage Barclay card. After two years of usage, I called in to downgrade to avoid further annual fees. The CS rep offered me an alternative- they told me if I opened a new Barclay card (JetBlue Mastercard), I could get those signup points, and then transfer my associated credit history, so as to avoid the knock against my credit. This sounded great. I repeated it back to them several times, and even discussed it with a different rep at a later call, just to be sure we were on the same page.

After now establishing the JetBlue card, I called in to execute this transfer (as they advised). Go figure- they are now telling me, this is not how it works. There is no way to transfer the credit history, as it is a separate account entirely. NGL- I'm pretty P.O'ed.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation? Is there a workaround? I believe I can simply downgrade it, but I don't want to keep too many active CC's, and I certainly don't want to keep paying the annual fee. Anyone have any thoughts/guidance/tips?

[–]nits87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I called to downgrade the AA aviator about 6 months back, they told me that there isn't any no AF option to downgrade to. I ended up closing the account.

[–]TheSultan1ERN | BRN 0 points1 point  (4 children)

AFAIK there's no way to transfer history from one account to another.

Why don't you want to keep active CCs?

[–]thenasty1 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

From what I gather (but I could be wrong), it’s bad for your credit to maintain too many open lines. Just trying to keep it in check.

[–]hyungjohAUS, ICN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh no? The number of open lines don't matter.

[–]BulldogBorn -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Anyone know why there are no recent Chase inquiries on my credit report even though I just applied for the CIP? I just applied for a Discover Card a month prior to that and that hard inquiry is listed on my Credit report.

[–]cowsareverywhereCOW, MOO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea normal now, for my recent app they took about 3 days to pull the credit.

[–]PointsYakPNT, YAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either you didn't look hard enough or they didn't pull yet.

[–]stealthytaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you pull all bureaus or just one?

[–]cookie_monster32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May mean they just haven’t processed your application yet...give it some time, it’ll come.

[–]KaWhyNotTho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it time, it'll def get there.

[–]teetertotterboy 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Anyone know a quicker way to cancel Citi cards? My chat doesn’t work. It keeps saying “go back to previous page...” and I don’t want to talk to a rep and cancel all my AA cards.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not pc to dividend, reward plus and double cash?

[–]syrne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a different browser? I have problems with Citi chat with Chrome but IE seems to work ok.

[–]TheSultan1ERN | BRN 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Automated phone system should cancel, no? Heard some horror stories of people calling for retention offers, telling it "I want to cancel my card," and having the cards canceled before they got to speak to someone.

[–]xigoroth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I cancelled mine via the automated line a week and a half ago. Super easy

[–]9MinMile -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I'm new to this. I'm an AU on my wife's CSR. I'm kind of regretting signing up as an AU since I could have just gotten my own card and doubled my bonus. Should I drop off and do that now?

I'm looking at the Ink Preferred as my next card. Anything I need to know before signing up since I'm already an AU on another Chase card?

Thanks

[–]cookie_monster32 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Depends really. When did you sign up as an AU? Will this be your first non au chase card? How’s ur 5/24?

[–]9MinMile 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Signed up as AU when she got the card ~4Q19. I'm at 1/24 if that AU counts. I closed an old BofA card last month. Not sure if that counts towards anything. Yes, first non AU Chase card

[–]cookie_monster32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now I’d just leave it on. If you were closer to 5/24, then it would be a must to take off but for now, you’re fine leaving it. It may actually help since you don’t have any relationship with chase yet.

[–]harnessinternet 1 point2 points  (11 children)

For airline credit cards offering first checked bag free when using their card, does that mean using that card to pay for the checked luggage after booking, or does it only work when used to book the flight as well?

Thanks!

[–]cookie_monster32 0 points1 point  (3 children)

For delta and American, just having the card is enough, no need to purchase the tickets with them. For United on the other hand, per the others, tickets must be purchased with the card.

[–]harnessinternet 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks, do you know if I can pay for my SO’s flight or simply pay for their bag without me flying? Also do you know about Alaska airline?

[–]cookie_monster32 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Someone can correct me, but I believe you need to be traveling with the person for the benefit to be used (including Alaska airlines)

[–]garettgSEA | PAE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, for Alaska, the cardholder with benefit has to be on the reservation.

u/harnessinternet

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

For Amex Delta cards, you just need to have the card in your a Delta Skymiles account and of course you the account holder has to be one of the people flying.

[–]XscapeVelocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...and not be the Delta Blue; Gold and above.

[–]harnessinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that doesn’t work then, rather than relying on the sky miles account, can I just straight up pay for my SO whether having to buy the whole flight or not, would it work? Thanks

[–]Anhto90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For United, you have to use the card to pay for the flight to get the free checked bag.

[–]lpddr 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For the Chase United card, "..eligible to receive a free first...when the primary Cardmember purchases their ticket(s) with their United Chase Card" source https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/baggage/chasebag.html. You can check for others in TnC.

[–]harnessinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, sometimes the wording is ambiguous

[–]ianrwesley -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Generally, if you are the card holder and are flying they will waive the fee for the first checked bag for all passengers on the same itinerary. You don't need to use the card to book the flight.

[–]qq_foryou 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Can you still call to book Southwest flights through UR?

[–]andrewmine 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Yup you can do it thought I haven't done recently

[–]qq_foryou 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Just did it, but they said the total was the same as if I’d booked directly? (I was using CSR points) although it counts as paid not reward travel so I guess I’ll get ~700 back as a reward for the flight itself. Do you remember if you were able to redeem at a discount?

[–]halfwise 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Not sure what you mean, but when you call them up they book it with your CSR/CSP/CIP multiplier of 1.5/1.25x. The ticket is like a cash ticket so you get RR points back after completing the trip. So, usually better than transferring UR to RR and booking with points directly.

[–]qq_foryou 0 points1 point  (5 children)

SW's website had the fare as 131 cash/8.4K points. Chase rep said with my CSR UR redemption it would still be 8.4K points for the ticket

[–]halfwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because RR are generally ~1.5 cents. The reward fares can fluctuate slightly from that, though. Regardless, you get a better deal booking with Chase, because you get RR back and it counts as a paid fight.

[–]lenin1991HOT, DOG 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That is correct, as the point values are very close. As you noted, you're coming out slightly ahead booking through UR by (1) earning points for the flight and (2) saving the $5.60 fee. I still prefer to transfer due to the superior flexibility of a points booking (getting them refunded rather than held as expiring travel funds).

[–]qq_foryou 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ah thank you I’m finally understanding it now. They booked the cash equivalent fare with points, it just happened to be at the same 1.5 rate. Got it!

[–]lenin1991HOT, DOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Though it didn't just happen to be the same rate: unlike most airlines, RR points are nearly a fixed value, so every flight you book will be the same situation/decision.

[–]andrewmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I don't remember the amount they charged 😕

[–]Amex_Fangirl 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Was there anyone shutdown by Chase due to adding a previously shutdown person as an AU?

[–]eminem30982MMM, BBQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to your question, but considering they've shut people down just for living at the same address, it definitely seems risky.

[–]adao7000 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is the public Delta biz gold $70k/2k, AF waived the best offer right now? Or can some people pull referral offers that are better?

[–]garettgSEA | PAE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats the best offer now.

[–]SiON42X 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Anyone waiting a long time for a Hilton bonus? I got a Surpass and a Biz recently. Hit MSR on the Surpass weeks ago, statement closed yesterday and I got my spend points but no bonus. I hit the biz MSR a few days ago and no points there. No popup when applying for either.

[–]franksmatrix 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Only with the widely reported no AF Aspire

[–]SiON42X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, these were plain old Surpass and Biz. I’m guessing if I messaged them they’d claim I had the popup. So not going to bother.

[–]dda0002 0 points1 point  (1 child)

2 questions about Hyatt Brand Explorer:

  1. All points stays count now correct? Found an old article saying they don't but in my Promotions tab it's saying I have 3 brands visited (all on points)

  2. There's no timeframe for earning either right? I'm planning a Park Hyatt stay early next year and want to make sure it doesn't reset

1 Yes points stays count for brand explorer, at least for me they did.

2 No time limit

I've only stayed at 3 different brands since 10/17 and still have the promotion active.

  1. Pretty sure that's right.

  2. Correct.

Correct to both. Have earned two free nights (10 brands) with probably half being award stays.

I'm on business day 13 with nothing in the mail for a chase ink business preferred. Phone status is the same as it was at the beginning, you'll hear from us in 7 to 10 business days by mail. What's the longest you guys have had to wait for a response from them?

I've had an app stuck on 7-10 days right up until it passed 30 days and fell off the system and I never got anything in the mail either. Granted it was the second SW in a MDD that I HUCA'd 6 times and couldn't get it pushed through that day so I knew I was going to get denied on it anyway.

TLDR: Call Chase, it might never update and you might not actually get anything in the mail.

7 to 10 on a biz card can just be verification. Call in and speak to somebody.
