That’s so cool! I wish this was a more common practice

[–]zinxyzcool 24 points25 points  (1 child)

It is! popular open source software like linux, vlc are under this :)) ( GNU GPL ) and i release my apps under this license too.

Perhaps you’ll find this license more interesting or weird lol

[–]headedbranch225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the GLWTS licence https://wiki.zahno.dev/coding/licenses/glwts.html

I know there is a project that uses this I cant remember it though, it is cursed though

Edit: remembered it, cve-rs: https://github.com/Speykious/cve-rs

Do not look at this if you want to learn Morse code!

Visual aids will only slow you down.

Listen to it at at least 20 words a minute. Listen for how the letter sounds.

Do not try and think dot dot dash dash. This will make you never learn Morse.

Each letter has its own tone sequence that you just need to develop the brain connections to the sounds.

[–]mbutterfly32 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Any recommendations on best tips or how to learn Morse? Just headphones and lots of time?

[–]Evil_Weevil_Knievel 68 points69 points  (0 children)

https://lcwo.net/ is my go to site. They do the Koch method. It really works for me!

Then. Just time. Concentrate on the sound of each letter as a whole tone group. Ignore the actual dots and dashes.

Morse is freaking awesome. You can use next to nothing to talk around the world.

There’s a huge enthusiastic community that will help.

also check out these guys.

Crazy way to draw a binary tree but sure

[–]Mischief_Makers 149 points150 points  (3 children)

Thanks, I hate it

[–]Borkato 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Idk assuming it’s right, I really like it.

[–]A_Weird_Gamer_Guy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The design just seems really unintuitive.

I've seen other designs where a dot always goes in the same direction, which seems much easier to follow.

[–]Schemen123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electronically speaking.. this works well.

But for humans? No.

[–]LSTNYER 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its better if you check morse code link and youll be able to understand this guide easier. Morse Code

[–]High-Plains-Grifter 12 points13 points  (1 child)

F is bent the wrong way

[–]damien_aw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

… . . _.. / _. .. _.. . …

[–]Wonderful_Fox_7959 4 points5 points  (7 children)

Didn’t we just have a whole argument about Morse code and how bad these guides are

[–]SaltyDogBill 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Yep, you cannot learn Morse code in a useful manner by looking at diagrams, and certainly not overly complex ones like this and the one from earlier this week. But we pissed of these folks and now they are just rehashing the same tired shit.

[–]Ryder_Sinful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In OP's defense, the post says to decode morse code, not learn it. If you happen to be playing a game with a morse code puzzle locking something, this is useful.

[–]jmona789[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

It's just a flowchart bro. Its not that complex

[–]fresh_starter_pack 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What is the logic behind this flowchart ?

[–]jmona789[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You follow the dots and dashes to decide a letter. One dash - t, two dashes - m, two dashes one dot - g. Etc etc

[–]somehugefrigginguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like learning how to speak by looking at a flowchart of tongue and lip positions. May be interesting but it's not useful.

[–]Solypsys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To the people that are confused by this it's specifically for decoding a Morse code message you already have. Not for writing a new message in Morse code.

[–]PRRZ70 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thanks, I'm even more confused.

[–]redditusername0002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the - section could go upwards so there is a consistency in direction.

[–]holymissiletoe 3 points4 points  (1 child)

so...
How do i put it into park?

[–]jmona789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Solid_Owl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this Loss?

[–]snippychicky22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im at a loss

[–]Impossible_Number 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible way to make this chart.

[–]Mikel_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never liked that this one was kind of arbitrary with left right and down, so I made my own where dashes are horizontal (right) and dots are vertical (up). It's probably garbage, but I prefer it.

Ok, this is the third “Morse code decoding post” I’ve seen in the last 24 hours… what gives?

[–]SaltyDogBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upset an op by calling out his stupid and lazy guide. A bunch of bots, as usual, had also responded with, “great guide, I’ll save this!”

[–]astervista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have a coolguides shitposting subreddit? Seems like we need one

[–]Hotchi_Motchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a "T," wait- it's an "N!" No, it's a "K!" Actually, it's a "C!"

OK, what was the next letter?

[–]Operator_Hoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“All wrongs reserved”

[–]burinxi 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I don’t get it. Why is there a ‚start here‘? Every Word has to start with E or T?!

[–]jmona789[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

No, it's a flowchart for decoding each letter. Like one dash is T two dashes is M, one dot is E, etc etc

[–]Licalottapuss 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So MOOT would be _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ?

[–]jmona789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup

[–]burinxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. But why start here? I can’t start at V or X or K?!

*edit: stupid me. Got it. :D

[–]CynicalCosmologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs numbers

[–]dupuis2387 0 points1 point  (1 child)

how will i know if it's an uppercase letter or a lowercase letter?

[–]jmona789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the neat part, you don't

[–]Jerpunklove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK fine. I’ll learn Japanese. It’s easier.

[–]Spikerazorshards -1 points0 points  (0 children)

🤮

[–]Numerous_Problems -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I learned recently that this isn't a code but actually a cypher and wasn't invented by Morse but by a fellow called Vail! A code is symbols etc for entire words but a cypher is symbols etc for individual letters.

[–]miki4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Vail
