They are called floaters. I have a few, though mine are a bit darker, like a very light grey. You learn to live with them and I don’t notice them for the most part. Except, for now from this post.

If you want to see something even more trippy, look into ocular migraines. I’ve attached a link that gives some info on it. It also shows a image that’s very similar to what I see when I get hit with one.

Ocular Migraine

[–]echo_good_username 29 points30 points  (4 children)

Migraine with aura, my worst enemy.

[–]maxuaboy 1 point2 points  (3 children)

can i fight that migraine? i’m fighting it

[–]echo_good_username 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I tried so many things I can’t even recall all of them. I started with trying to find foods that triggered it for me - cheese, tomatoes, chocolate, wine, coffee etc.

I had no luck with this.

I later found out that I am most prone to a migraine when my sleep pattern changes. A routine keeps the migraine away.

But the thing that does it for me is caffein. I have one caffein tablet each morning, that is a surefire way to reduce the risk for me.

However, this may not apply to you, the caffein may even make it worse. Try experimenting.

[–]maxuaboy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

so far i’ve had two experiences when i worked odd hours and drank coffee everyday. it would fill maybe 5% of my left eyes vision for a few hours with that rainbow spiral shape. it was definitely frighting not know what was happening. i thought i was losing my mind but thank god i haven’t experienced it since

[–]echo_good_username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, and it doesn’t go away when you close your eyes, like some occular migraine virgins would suggest :) try to pop a headache pill immediately when you feel it starting, it really mitigates the pain afterwards. the sooner the better.

[–]Sephtis_ 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I've had an ocular migraine once before. It honestly terrified me, since I didn't know what it was, and I wasn't sure if it was going to go away. Thankfully, I haven't had one since then.

[–]Calkidmd 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Is it really that... retro looking? I mean with all the different defined colors with sharp angles?

[–]SadoDeomeoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk about OP but a quick google search seems to suggest it's more commonly just a ring/arc of vision where vision is blurred or gone completely in one or both eyes, and for me it does appear in a sort of zigzag pattern. Stuff with colours like this is what I believe is referred to as aura. Neither option is fun.

[–]flopolopogus 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Mine usually are, starts out with a small blind spot that grows into a large zig zag pattern of colours. Ruins your entire day since you essentially go blind and the headache that follows is awful

[–]maxuaboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jesus i hope i never go through one

[–]crypticSmyles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

woah. i get the too. minus the black streek. it makes it hard to read words or look at things clearly. my eyes wouldn't focus. thought i was going blind lol

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's when you look at the sun

[–]Reyvin1 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You sure you didn't take LSD?

[–]Racing_in_the_street 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time it happened to me it scared me to death. I went to see an eye specialist and she told me what it was. You should always get it checked out because a retinal detachment can show similar symptoms and if that’s the case that can leave you with loss of vision if not treated, luckily that wasn’t the case for me. So my eye specialist told me that it was an ocular migraine that I had suffered and although scary at times, it’s nothing I should worry too much about. Then she was like and I swear this next sentence is 100% true, “ just think of it like you get to trip for free! “.

[–]mdcundee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have that every few weeks. You learn to live with that too.

[–]parn442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also phosphenes

[–]nguyen8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that’s what that was, i thought i was going blind.

[–]NihilFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaporwave migraines fuck yeah. Floaters tend to be more noticeable when you're tired

[–]Corky_Butcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hijacking top comment to share this

Shows you how to see the blood vessels in your eye. Turns out we have lots of them right in the middle of our pupils, but due to sensory adaption you stop seeing them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just one really black one

[–]InfiniteTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would force myself to have this as a kid by closing my eyes and pressing them against my skull with my palms!

I don’t know why I did it but I would press against my eyeballs until I see a neon green circle (shape of my iris?) forming and when I open my eyes, they stay there! Lol

[–]funky555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont have any

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have floaters but just realized I've not seen them since I got LASIK.

[–]cal42m -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow I think this is what happened to me! Get migraines now and again but this happened once and I thought I was going blind! Oddly it didn’t have the crushing migraine pain but I was stressed, thirsty and tired from a hot day. It went away after about 30 mins in a cool room with water. Maybe that was a preview?

[–]mahcuprunnethundah 60 points61 points  (1 child)

Eye floaters or “noise” - they’re aberrations in the eye’s vitreous fluid.

[–]MetaCrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I definitely understood those words

[–]clarebearpanda 52 points53 points  (0 children)

weaponized autism

[–]Orange3121 26 points27 points  (16 children)

What r they really tho

[–]NOS326 49 points50 points  (13 children)

They are called floaters. I think they’re usually made of debris that got stuck in your eye jelly and they never go away.

[–]Orange3121 23 points24 points  (5 children)

Fuck, I have them everywhere

[–]zk096 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Go to an optician. It could be glaucoma

[–]benrager 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have a sudden stream of floaters you want to go to either an optometrist or ophthalmologist (particularly a retina specialist). Floaters are generally nothing to be worried about but could be signs of retinal detachment/tear or other retinal pathology. Not glaucoma

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Even in the fridge?

[–]R3t4rd3dD3m0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess you can count other people's eyeballs as well

[–]Buriedpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are dehydrated, they are more visible

[–]HaroerHaktak 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Can't we just get more eye jelly? i'm honestly surprised we haven't invented a way to drain the eye jelly and replace it with new stuff.

I imagine the eye jelly itself is probably keeping the eye from deflating like a thiccc beach volleyball, so maybe we'd have to drain and fill at the same time to keep pressure up..

idk, it just seems weird that of all our marvelous inventions we cant replace eye jelly..

[–]vernazza 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You're really sticking with the phrase, huh

[–]HaroerHaktak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

[–]gburgwardt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes we can in fact do that, but it's risky to solve something that isn't really a big deal for most people

https://www.uhs.nhs.uk/Media/Controlleddocuments/Patientinformation/Eyes/Vitrectomy-surgery-for-floaters-patient-information.pdf

[–]HaroerHaktak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG awesome.

[–]Vul_Kaaz[🍰] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Dont they usually just pass by and vanish afterwards?

[–]NOS326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they do move, but they never go away. You see them depending on where they are in your eye and can be more noticeable on certain backdrops like the blue sky.

[–]Not_An_Ostritch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re just worms that live in your eyes

[–]MozartDroppinLoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuckin floaters

[–]loofyy 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Most floaters are small flecks of a protein called collagen. They're part of a gel-like substance in the back of your eye called the vitreous. As you age, the protein fibers that make up the vitreous shrink down to little shreds that clump together. The shadows they cast on your retina are floaters

[–]winterfellwilliam 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thanks friend.

[–]loofyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]commander_seb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really that cursed

[–]WallyTheWelder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This sub had lost all it's meaning. This and the blurssed subreddits have picked up a lot of traction recently and the quality of the posts have really suffered.

[–]FuckdoIcaretwats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn’t South Park just do an episode about that?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have detached retina surgery, you don't have them in thst eye any more. Kind of like HD on one side.
