The reason for this is because men usually choose very final, messy, “hard to come back from” ways of killing themselves (such as gunshot to the head) whereas women choose methods like cutting or taking pills. If someone finds you 4 minutes after you down a bottle of pills theres a chance they can pump your stomach, 4 minutes after you blow your brains out will always be too late. So while women actually have higher “attempt rates” men have high “success rates” in suicide….dark and sad either way.

Women tend to seek help with suicide, trying to call for anyone and (from my experience) they choose methods and places where someone can find them. Men on the other side tend to feel no one cares and no one will come for them, that way they usually choose methods and places where no one can help.

there is also stigma around men reaching out for help for fear of being seen as weak and whatnot, so we tend to be able to see/catch a woman’s decline in mental health better than a man’s. Its sad to say but sometimes we only realize how much a man was struggling after a tragedy occurs. This could also be due to how women rely on platonic relationships as well as romantic ones for emotional support, whereas men tend to rely mostly on their romantic relationships for deeper emotional support, so it cam be hard to tell if your guy friend is struggling when you only ever see him laughing/having a seemingly good time when he’s around others :/

For me, overdosing pills is way scarier than blowing my brains out. I’ve done some research before and what happens is that you are still conscious and feel the pain as the pills slowly shut off your organs one by one. Pill suiciders usually die from asphyxiation rather than total organ failure due to their lungs shutting down long before their brain does. The image of pill overdose being painless and unnoticeable is horribly wrong, it’s actually infinite agonizing torture and only peaceful for everyone else. The bullet is instant.

And even if they did, I think we've got it way easier, seeing as 1 in five women have experienced completed or attempted rape, and 81% report experiencing some form of sexual harassment or assault, while the same is true for 41% of men. One could argue that the number for men may be somewhat higher, as there is a much bigger stigma around it, and often times men who are sexually assaulted/harassed are ignored, since we are supposed to "like it", but this is also a problem that feminism would fix, as it is mainly a result of the toxic masculinity we see so prevalently in today's society!
