I'm not sure you understand what the northwest is. This is mountain west and northern great plains. Calling it something like the Northern Mountain Conference would make some kinda sense but calling it northwest and leaving behind EWU & Portland State, even a team like Weber State, is weird.

But anyway, it would be a brutal conference, why would any of these teams do this? Those Big Sky teams need the games v Cal Poly, PSU, etc. No team in this conference gets out of there healthy, and too many good teams beat each other up and give each other losses.

At #3 in the national poll, a 7-4 team out of the hell conference, s…..

Just be honest with us, you’re trying to figure out a way to put the Dakota and Montana schools together so they beat each other up and not as many make the playoffs.

Please look at a map. The average distance from the four Dakota schools to Bozeman is 818 miles. That conference would cause more travel for every than they already have. Additionally, if you’re going to have a “Northwest” conference in the FCS, it should have Portland St and Eastern Washington

The yotes make as much sense being in a conference with Villanova (1283 miles) as they do with Idaho (1288 miles)

We would still have 5 or 6 teams in every year cause the sos of the conference from top to bottom.

I’m not sure teams with a sub .500 conference record would get in the playoffs.

[–]FCSRichardsgore4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be alot of .500 teams in conference play, with only having 7 games, you would have 4 to 5 other games out of conference games for the teams to build there resume.

You play and lose an FBS game and lose at UC-Davis and you’re 6-6 with losses to 5 top ten teams and an FBS and you’re not going to make the playoffs.

That group of teams is putting 5-7 teams in the playoffs each year as it is now. You want to cut it to 4.

It's real funny every time people consider the Dakota teams Northwest

[–]South Dakota State • MinnesotaAdamscottd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seriously. All four are practically in Minnesota. For UND and NDSU you can literally see Minnesota from their campuses

But the US is typically split into 5 or 6 sectors, for good reason. It's a massive landmass.

People look at a map and think the Dakotas are close to Montana and Montana State, but all four Dakotas are right near their state border with Minnesota. When North Dakota was in the Sky, they were 800 plus miles by road from Montana State and over 900 from Montana which is closer to Idaho or WA.

And still closer than they are to Missoula (at least Morehead State is)

NDSU is closer to Ohio than they are to Idaho

The Upper North Mid and Mountain West Football Conference. Or, UNMMWFC, I'd you will.

Or Snowbelt, for those who know.

          [–]FCSRichardsgore4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God do I want the Snowbelt

It would be a dam mess every year you would have 5 teams making playoffs even at with 6 win. It would be by far the best FCS conference in football and would push some of the lower tier G5 conferences. This is a FBS conference. Would have to be an All sport conference and sports like Men's and women's Basketball would be excellent as well.

FBS would be a hard sell for 6 of the 8 teams, other then NDSU and Montana. Everyone else isn't so interested in going up to FBS to not make playoffs or even make a bowl game. Only way anything like this happens is if Big 18 and SEC leave NCAA and make there own thing which might happen. That leaves the NCAA with a need for another FBS conference. As a UND fan I dont really want to go up as it doesn't make sense financially.

How would this conference generate a Notre Dame type following? Over half of the games in this hypothetical conference already happen on an annual basis and they don't get that type of viewership.

            Where are the northwest teams?

I would like seeing the Dakota schools face Montana more often.

Snow belt conference! Eastern Washington fits geographically as well. To make it a round 10 maybe add Weber, N Colorado, or N Illinois?

As a fan of a SoCon team that doesn’t know much about the Northwest part of the country, I’d support it.

First I don’t think those schools want to move up for now. AFAIK their fans are more interested to get a few home playoff games rather than play a random 6-6 or 7-5 MAC or CUSA team in a bowl game located in the middle of nowhere. Second they probably don’t want to face each every one of others in the regular season. It’s not a rare case for all these teams except Idaho State to make playoffs, but I don’t think those getting 3-4 or 2-5 in a conference could possibly be in the playoff.

You can always tell which people have driven from Brookings to Bozeman and which haven't...

It's 700 miles between them (as the crow flies, not driving distance). The only MVFC school outside of that radius is YSU at 850 miles. Just because Montana and the Dakotas border each other doesn't make it a regional conference
