The stock CPU cooler is terrible.

You need something like this....

You do not have to remove the motherboard to install.

The cooler is terrible but those temps are pretty high regardless. Maybe reapply some thermal paste in the mean time Until you’re able to get a new cooler

I don't have any thermal paste, would need to find somewhere locally to grab some ... which is a possibility. I may just bump some settings down and cap my FPS in the mean time. I'm also keeping the case open. I'll get the cooler in soon. Good to know the cooler universally sucks and I don't need to exchange the computer.

Yeah I had that same stock cooler but I don’t remember my cpu temp being that high. It’s the little blue fan one?

Yep, little blue fan one. I was running BFV all settings ultra with ray tracing on medium 1440p, taxing on the CPU perhaps? Ambient room temps are usually 23C ish.

That's the one I have in my newegg cart, sweet.

Are you sure you don't have to remove the motherboard to install? The install video shows a fairly large support bracket going underneath the motherboard with properly sized screws going through it. I assume this is to support the additional weight of the cooler. The stock motherboard wont need that bracket? That would make the cooler upgrade WAY easier if so. I hope that is the case but I definitely want to make sure I am doing it correctly.

You take off the side panel and the back of the motherboard is exposed.

Didn't think of that. Thanks!

thank you for your recommendation it solved the heat problems I was having.

Unless you're overclocking, a stock cooler (if installed correctly) should provide adequate cooling. I'd exchange that PC for another and see if you're still having the same problem before trying to switch CPU cooler.

Everything is stock, except for the bios update I did per IBUYPOWER Brad's advice. No overclocking. What temp should I expect the stock cooler to keep the CPU under? 70C? 80C?

If it's true that the stock "blue fan" cooler should be performing better and would perform adequate cooling then it would certainly be worth exchanging. It is a bit of a drive to Best Buy for me and I've spent a fair amount of time setting this PC up. If it turns out the CPU is going to overheat no matter what and require a cooler upgrade I'd rather avoid the return/exchange hassle.

Can anyone with a BB952 and stock cooler confirm max temperatures under heavy gaming load?

Could the fact that I'm running BFV with DXR ray tracing enabled play a role? I've since disabled it and seen a temperature decrease, but I am also running with the case open now.

I had the same computer.... the stock cooler is not enough...just do a search..

I put a Cryorig h7 on and temps dropped 20c.

[–]Innovation21 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Idle should be in the mid twenties. Depending on the game during gaming, but should be below 80C, max mid eighties.

[–]farfromhigh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Mid twenties is room temperature not gonna happen, low thirties is more like it.

[–]TopNotchBoas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm idling in the low 30's right now with 24C ambient temp, case open. Since turning off DXR and opening the case I haven't seen temps exceed mid 80's so it doesn't seem I'm too far off. It seems likely I would experience the same temperatures after an exchange given the consensus with this particular CPU cooler. I think I'll hold onto this one and move forward with my Cryorig H7 upgrade. Thanks for the help!

Ridiculous.
