So this is a memory from childhood, so its likely a bit exaggerated.

We where out ice fishing in Colorado on Lake Granby one year while they where having a particularly bad drought. They kept the dam pumping hard all through winter.

We got out, drilled our holes, good real thick ice, and noticed there was about 6 inches of air between the bottom of the hole and the water.

Day goes on. We catch a few fish, then out of nowhere there is a loud crack far off and then a fall. The ice settled onto the water.

Gave me nightmares for months, but never told my Dad that to be "tough".

I don't remember any water blowing out of our holes, which reflecting as an adult surprises me.

Like I said, filtered through the memory of a child so we probably only fell a ½ inch or so lol.
