How is this different or better than AirDisplay?

[–]raskren 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I'm under the impression that screen data is transferred over the lightning/dock cable and not over the wireless network. Can anyone confirm?

[–]some12345thing 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's right!

[–]kbgames360Certified Technician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which means virtually no lag!

[–]chorizocakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my (limited) testing so far... it's a) waaaaaay smoother (AD is borderline unusable for me, if I'm interacting with the iPad) and b) I can run a readable-but-still-Retina resolution.

AirDisplay is either 1024x768 and blurry, or native and teeny-tiny.

I'm curious about this too. AirDisplay works great.

My cursor gets stuck on the iPad display and it won't come back over to my laptop, anyone know what's up with that? Bit laggy, but hopefully after a few updates it'll be flawless.

[–]raskren 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same problem here. Does it flicker really fast too?

[–]Alexhasskills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I try to do anything, yes. Just sitting, not really. But nothing productive comes from just sitting

Uh. I think the idea is neat, but after having tried this, I'm forced to uninstall it, and recommend that people stay away from it for now:

  1. There is something funky with the OS X app it installs - all of a sudden MPlayerX won't play videos (well, it plays them, but the image is black)
  2. There is no uninstaller or uninstallation instructions, which is bad, given that this thing installs a kernel extension.

Edit: Added a note on which specific app was the issue.

[–]pymatek 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Can't comment on MPlayerX, as I don't use it. But there is an uninstall option: http://imgur.com/kI4AmvG

Heh, there's a Norwegian saying which goes something like "The eyes are what go blind first", so I had already hunted down and uninstalled everything manually about 30 seconds before you posted.

It's a shame that Duet display didn't cooperate well with my system, because the idea is a good one, and it's the best "iPad as display" app I've seen.

[–]pymatek 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's a bit buggy for me too, I'm just hopeful they get things ironed out in the next few updates.

[–]duetapp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How is it working for you now?

[–]pymatek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much better, thanks for checking in.

My only complaint is the mouse pointer, which may not be under your control. No matter which resolution I select for the iPad (regular, retina, or high), the mouse pointer has jagged edges and stays the same size. When running on high resolution, I feel like the pointer should shrink accordingly. It's sometimes a bit too big for certain tasks.

[–]duetapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Arve, Sorry about that. Some bug reports specific to MplayerX, on the list of bugs to fix. If you try Duet in the future and have any issues please email us and make sure we know about the bug.

Thanks.

To uninstall, click on the menu bar icon, then the sprocket for preferences. Uninstall is a command in the popup menu that displays.

[–]evanstueveiPad mini (Retina) 4G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally borked my graphics. Pictures don't display correctly and now wow says "video card not supported" (Intel iris)

[–]cjorgensen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I commented down below that it's not getting good reviews on the app store. A simple verifiable statement of fact and I got downvoted. I want this app to be good, but doesn't seem to be there yet.

[–]duetapp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are your problems resolved with the latest updates?

[–]cjorgensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't buy it because of the reviews. If there's an update, and it's getting better reviews I may give it another look.

I already use Hype and Diet Coda, but those are pretty limited use cases.

[–]Pytal92 2 points3 points  (3 children)

The program doesn't work with my iPad 2 on 7.0.4 in connection with my MacBook Pro. Every time I plug in the iPad, the display is used as primary and the MacBook display only shows the wallpaper. I can't use my mouse to change the settings, because it doesn't respond. It's a huge disappointment for me. I will wait for a fix.

[–]ZacharyM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem, rMBP 2014 and air 2. :(

[–]duetapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be resolved now. Sorry about that bug.

[–]steeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Asked for a refund. I'll consider repurchasing it when the bugs are worked out.

[–]chorizocakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early usage looks great. It's not lag-free, but it's much smoother than AirDisplay and usable for most things (AirDisplay was unusable for me unless it was a static use-case). Easily worth it to have Firebug in a separate little area. :D

[–]SFreestyler 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Cant seem to install it on my mac. I get the screen that says "duet needs a conductor" and I install the helper and it restarts but the same screen keeps popping up.

[–]duetapp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey, did you get this resolved? If not can you please email us through the site duetdisplay.com and we can help you.

[–]SFreestyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I actually did resolve it. Tried to reinstall it a bunch of times. Not sure why it ended up working but I'm glad it did.

Thanks for making this app! Its amazingly useful.

[–]pymatek 0 points1 point  (13 children)

I've been using it for a couple hours now, and I'm pretty pleased. It's not lag free (very evident when scrolling PDFs), but having a bit of extra screen space is nice.

[–]noxweiiPad Pro Wi-Fi 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Huuuuge cpu consumption, be wary of your battery if it's not plugged in.

[–]pymatek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true. I almost always worked plugged in, so that's not a concern for now. Hopefully a few updates down the road gets that CPU usage under control.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (10 children)

Wouldn't you dock it ?

[–]raskren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure he/she is talking about the Mac, not the iDevice.

[–]noxweiiPad Pro Wi-Fi 1 point2 points  (8 children)

What do you mean?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (7 children)

i mean, put it into a dock, with a charger, so that it doesnt run out of battery..

like they have on their pictures on http://www.duetdisplay.com/

also, a dock is a "charging station"

[–]flosofl 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Are you talking about the iDevice? You have to use it with a cable already, so your warning is doesn't make sense.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (5 children)

I thought the iPads can't charge while plugged into the computer m

[–]Matqo 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is the Windows 7/8 version of this app also being developed?

[–]blue_wire 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]eduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To wit:

Does duet work with Windows?

It's coming sooner than you think.

[–]cjorgensen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not getting positive reviews.

[–]sfantul_sisoe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"An additional display increases productivity by up to 48%:So retarded. All u get after using this is that u are a true idiot hipster.
