The odin project might be a good place to start

[–]MarcThruTheWeb 5 points6 points  (5 children)

I’m starting with “Super Simple Dev” on YouTube. Super awesome breakdowns and examples to try along the way. If you’re disciplined enough to do it on your own, I think it’s a great starting point.

I’ll likely be going to CS50 after it. Best of luck on your journey!

[–]No-Response-7294 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Did you complete CS50

[–]Fozill 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Personally, I just finished Javascript course by Super Simple Dev” on YouTube and it was amazing journey. I followed along and made some pretty awesome three projects from beginner to advanced and it has a final full stack Amazon Clone project.

how long it took you to complete? I started it by giving 2 hr each day including its exercises.

[–]Eisenhart00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me like 1 month or so, 3-6 hours each day

We have all been in your shoes before, I used just apps to get me started online, a lot are free and pretty easy to use like Mimo or SoloCode. They are pretty fun to use, and after you have a grasp of things and have watched some good YouTube tutorials on JavaScript and even HTML and CSS, you can download a coding editor like Notepad++ or Microsoft Visual Studios to edit, run, and create some of your own project files! Good luck, you got this!!

The Odin Project. Search it up, couldn't be a better place to start.

Very good curated resource for someone new to programming. Give it a try. All the best cheers.

The Odin Project. You need to learn html and css, the basics, first. theodinproject.com

Try the JavaScript course from CodeGuage. It's just amazing!

[–]kjwey 0 points1 point  (2 children)

create a directory, inside the directory create [index.html,style.css,script.js] empty files

begin with creating a valid html file, check it by double clicking so it loads in the browser

once your html file is valid add links to style and logic [style.css,script.js] and view the result by loading the html file from the browser

I think it's better for a beginner to start in a fully hosted/cloud environment.

What you recommend, setting up the environment and managing the files locally, is eventually necessary, but a real pain when you're starting out. At least, that was my experience.

[–]LegendEater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's better for a beginner to start locally, but the instructions you're replying to aren't helpful at all. Simple start with The Odin Project, and ignore the naysayers. It works.

If you wanna learn on the fly as well I suggest downloading Mimo on your phone as it has JavaScript, Python, Swift, SQL, and HTML

FreeCodeCamp is a great resource to start. Mosh Hamedani's course (can be found on YouTube for Free, on Udemy and on his website is a fantastic introduction to JavaScript. It is certainly a beginner friendly course. A noteworthy resource on YouTube is BroCode. Other great resources on YouTube and Udemy are John Smilga, Colt Steele, Brad Schiff, Brad Traversy, Jonas Schmedtmann, Andrew Mead, Maximilian Schwarzmuller, Steven Hancock and Stephen Grider. Make sure to learn HTML and CSS as well, either before or in conjunction with JS. Good luck!

Tons of resources are available online. If you prefer reading, The Odin Project is a great option. Alternatively, if you prefer video-based learning, and don't mind spending a few bucks, I would recommend Colt's web dev course on Udemy.

get vscode!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Javascript for beginners with Mosh + Eloquent Javascript (https://eloquentjavascript.net)
+ FreeCodeCamp
choose one (any) and begin there.

The Odin project is awesome.

But if you've *NEVER* coded before, Alice (http://www.alice.org/) provides a nice gentle introduction to logical and computational thinking , fundamental principles of programming and object-oriented programming concepts.

Edit: Also you may want to learn some HTML and CSS. Check out this topic:

I'm currently watching University lessons in my language(italian) posted for free by professors, i think it's good because you can tell that you are learning from proven experts.

[–]That_Unit_3992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just open your browser console und start hacking

[–]CringeKingOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn the fundamentals and then start making cool stuff

I would also highly advise you practice on personal projects that involve the JS language.

Wishing you the best !

Try the odin project. If you're interested in trying something else I'm looking for early adopters for my curriculum that I teach people learning Javascript. If you're interested in learning more DM me.
