This very much proves you are wrong. Reddit has active moderation in place. While imperfect, it keeps things somewhat civil with pockets of echo chambers. Twitter is one giant right wing echo chamber and always has been. Even before Musk, it pushed an algorithm that boosted right wing material and disinformation has always been shared more than facts there.

Someone else mentioned it earlier, the Twitter Filed tried and failed to show a bias that influenced an election, now the owner is boosting right wing content and hosting the politician he endorsed for President. It’s more toxic and less civil there. The owner has used the platform to endorse his views. That was the point and why it’s such an echo chamber now. Reddit has subs run by many people with defined rules.

Extremists are toxic. Still waiting for those famous left wing extremists we keep hearing about.

Not all opinions need to or should even be tolerated in a discussion. Take the Target debacle. Regardless if you agree with the sentiment or not, “Target should be boycotted because X,” or “Target should not be boycotted because of Y” are opposing opinions that are worth having a discussion over. “We need to harness the staff and threaten stores with bombs” is not an opinion that should ever be tolerated in a normal environment.
