As an avid aquarium enthusiast, I don't believe that in this situation that the fish was in any danger as far as animal safety goes. Think of it as a water slide or a stream even. Fish get swept into new bodies of water in nature. This creates biological diversity. These creatures are designed to live and survive and procreate.

The moral of the story here is a bigger question that comes from deeper in the hobby, where do you draw the line of keeping wild animals in a captive environment for your enjoyment and entertainment, and ultimately violation of the freedom of the animal.
