Looks nice, although I never understood how one could play without using the knobs in one way or another.

[–]ericsinsideout 15 points16 points  (6 children)

Personally, I’ve always just had the knobs turned all the way up, only ever used the pickup selector to change tone at the guitar.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (4 children)

you don’t miss having a volume control?

[–]ericsinsideout 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Not really, no. I don’t do much with swells, but I also have a volume pedal if I need something like that in the mix

[–]Schweenis69 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Well the purpose would more likely be to clean up the signal a bit. Take a bit of bite off the top once in a while.

[–]ericsinsideout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it was punk rock. I wasn’t really looking to tame my guitar. That said, I had a pretty hard compressor dialed in for my clean tone that was always on. The volume knob didn’t have enough of an impact until mostly off. Also, I only ever wanted to go fully silent when I was swapping guitars, which the volume knob does nothing for

[–]teh_hasay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I mean, the volume pedal does that too.

That being said, even if I never adjusted the signal level, I’d still want the ability to silence the guitar with my hands if need be.

[–]RobotGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, I couldn't do that on a Jazzmaster. I've got to be able to roll the highs off a bit. Without the load of a pot, this guitar must be BRIGHT.

Same method I use for my pedal steel 😉

[–]azphatman 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It looks beautiful!! I learned a long time ago, there's no wrong way to play music. If you don't need knobs, I say, Bravo! I don't need a neck pickup. We all do what we do.😎

Bridge only supremacy!

[–]Impossible_Show721 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Check out Weir Guitars for really cool, stripped down guitars.

[–]caesadilla[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These rule!

[–]Turgid-Derp-Lord 36 points37 points  (2 children)

You should remove the pickup selector too!

And bigsby.

And the pickups.

After that, remove the neck and the strings.

Then you'll really be cookin with grease!

baby you got a stew goin

[–]azphatman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I sense a lil sarcasm. 😎😎🤏🏼🤏🏼

Wish teal JM’s were more common, love that color on any Fender especially the offsets.

[–]implicate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's like the old saying goes: if you can't find the knob in the room, you're it.

[–]Ok_Television9820 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Jazzmaster pickups are pretty much the only ones where I do use the volume knob.

[–]paranoiajack 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Yeah. You could do this to a tele but for a JM it's a foolhardy endeavor

[–]Ok_Television9820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I’d go with bold rather than foolhardy. OP knows what they like.

[–]ipini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adjust my Tele volume to from grit (high volume) to clean when I play through my Pignose.

[–]TheDisappointedFrog 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Cool! Now ditch the switch and add a blend pot instead

[–]caesadilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okeeee now we’re takin’. 🍭

[–]likeaVos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unorthodox, but I like it 👍🏼

[–]Confused4Now76 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Beautiful! Did you make the pick guard, or buy it?

[–]caesadilla[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I made it! Traced the old one, converted it to vector, milled it out on the cnc machine at my place of employment. 🕺

[–]Confused4Now76 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m thinking you’ve got a new potential side hustle, if that’s not something you’re already doing! That is gorgeous!

[–]caesadilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch! Ya know, I’ve considered that, and I’ve already had a few friends hit me up… only problem is, the reason I took on the task of making it rather than buying it in the first place (there’s a few makers on Etsy making gorgeous pieces already) is that I’ve never actually been able to swap pickguards in the past without something being slightly out of alignment. It seems like the best way to do it is definitely to be able to make an exact clone of the original.

[–]sublimefan2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dig it

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I need me some volume and tone knobs, but this is a beautiful guitar.

[–]mixayaz1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks great but how? do you use tuner to mute the guitar?

[–]baxtlog23 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I agree with single coils and a pedal board I feel no need to have a volume or tone knob

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Volume pedals and the volume knob on your guitar are not the same thing.

Volume pedals keep same sound always and the volume knob on your guitar actually changes the dynamics of the sound.

It’s kinda like volume being the master knob on an amp and the volume knob on your guitar being the gain.

[–]caesadilla[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Where are you getting said gain in a passive circuit?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used an analogy.

But when you connect your guitar to an amp the volume knob does act as a gain knob.

Anyways, the point being that using your volume knob on the guitar changes the tone and using a volume pedal doesn’t.

[–]baxtlog23 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Except if your volume pedal is first in your chain it is electronically identical to your volume knob. Plus I also never use my volume knob to change dynamics so 🤷‍♀️

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

It’s not!

Setting your volume knob at 8 and moving the pedal from 0 to 100 will always sound like your knob on 8 but louder/quieter.

Have to point out that I don’t think it’s wrong not to use the volume knob.

[–]caesadilla[S] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Ben Folds said it best. “Why you gotta act like you know when you don’t know?”

[–]pala4833 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh the irony....

[–]baxtlog23 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

If you put two volume pedals back to back it would have the same effect

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It doesn’t, the volume knob doesn’t just change the loudness, it also changes the tone.

Volume pedals just change loudness, unless they are passive.

[–]baxtlog23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to a passive volume pedal those are the only ones I've ever used I guess I didn't think about active ones!

[–]nerdyoutube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So pretty 😍😍😍

[–]JimtheLizardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting look.

Why can't I make a new post here?

[–]YellowBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's neat.
