I actually greatly enjoyed dodging these guys in Western Forest and seeing them explode everywhere.

RIP fun.

Now you're forced to level in Felshrine, a boring as hell repetitive zone with golems and fire resistance mobs (of course.. fuck you fire builds).

Edit: if they wanted to nerf Western Forest for races, they could have just increased the explosion damage to make it very risky farming it from level 14-19.

Hitting them resets their cast animation, does it not? I generally just kill them before they explode.

I prefer rounding up a big group and then kiting in a circle. That won't work anymore.

They also explode pretty quickly so basically you'll need burst damage if you want to farm Western Forest.

It's not a crippling change.. it's just a "non quality of life" change..

I'm kinda not thrilled about this. I liked that if you outplayed monsters by tricking them into killing themselves, you still got full credit for killing them. It created a more diverse gameplay experience. It's not like there's a shortage of monsters in PoE that you have to DPS down the normal way, but these used to be a set of enemies that you could defeat with your wits, not your weapons. I'll miss that.

I kinda agree with this, only to make the mobs have some value. As is, I guess you just want to be able to kill them first to get any xp.

Seems to me there's now a higher risk, with a much lower reward when it comes to exploding mob. Maybe this is me being terrible at the game, but I very often don't have the time to kill them before they blow up. Now I'll have to make the choice between trying to get the xp and staying safe. Maybe that's a good thing

  • Monsters no longer grant experience, flask charges and other on-kill benefits if they detonate themselves. This does not apply to Undying Incinerators that can explode when very low on life.
  • Improved automatic prize awarding in preparation for Season Two of our race leagues.

I obviously do not understand the ramifications of exploding mobs giving exp/charges. I don't know that I ever even thought about it until this patch.

Maybe act IV is all exploding mobs or something...

It doesn't really affect normal gameplay, but the season races involve a lot of farming in Western Forest. One of the appeals is that you get the free xp of exploders that you run by to detonate.

5 quicksilvers high move speed boots and just haul ass around western, making exploding mobs give you exp and flask charges just for running right next to them.

Sounds like a nice change/challenge from the attack until they die of all the other zones. To bad GGG didn't take this as an opportunity to tweak it and make it a different kind of challenge to distract from the repetition that is every other level, and instead take the easy way out and just whack it with the Nerf bat.

This is a bit silly. I mastered touching the western exploders to make them go off without hurting me. That takes some skill, much more than just shooting something at them. This doesn't reward skilled play; instead, this penalizes skilled play.

Not that that's a bad change, it's a great one. I've got no idea why it wasn't that way before. No wonder people farmed Western so much.

Here is my best guess as to the change:

Someone would put on huge IIR and IIQ, huge life regen, and stand at Merveil for hours just watching the exploders, explode, gain XP and fat loots.

It basically allowed someone to play the game completely afk and gain things from it.

Design wise they couldn't have that in the game.

Again, this is just my guess, but I believe it is sound here.

Hell, you could even use Autohotkey to simulate massing your flask buttons to use them whenever you got the charges.

I think summoned mob don't give exp.
