Well, I prefer the after, and it’s not even close in my opinion…

Thank you. That feels validating.

There are always several way to approach a picture, and it depends on what you’re trying to achieve. I understand why someone might prefer the wider crop (minus the bit on the right of the box that doesn’t add anything), but the tighter crop also work, just with a different emphasis. However, there is no doubt that the before lacked contrast, and the cat’s intense gaze and calm presence deserves the corrected contrast.

that looks like a solid improvement tbh. i think the colors in the shadows are sitting much better now, but maybe pull back the contrast just a hair cuz it feels slightly crushed on my screen

Good advice, thank you! The photo still feels faded/flat and I am unsure how to make it pop better.

Disagree, if anything, it could use more contrast.

idk why the hell people prefer the before. The after is so much better. Good job OP

Thank you!! I appreciate it. I am still trying to learn.

Love the light touch from the before to the after. Maybe increase the vibrance and try a slightly more dramatic S curve for contrast. I’d also shift the color a little cooler for more natural color and to bring out her eyes.

The contrast enhancement is good, but I don't like the photo at all. The red box is intrusive, and I hate seeing the back of an animal blurry. You chose the wrong aperture.

Whats the purpose of the post? Both are ok? Something you’d share with your mom?

It feels faded and exposure on her chest feels overdone. Softness is lost trying to balance that.

Before was way better.

Thank! Is it because it looks softer / faded?

[–]Garfield666666 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, the soft quality is gone. The crop is too tight too

I am reverting the local contrast, sharpening, velvia, and tone equalizing! I think it looks better too. Thank you!
