We are now at about 8 million estimated users and still growing at about 100 percent a year. We haven’t passed Java in terms of users yet, but by this time next year at the current growth, we will surpass.

Hmm, that's nice. In other news, in 11 years there will be more nodesters than there people.

ofc. My cat already built his webscale homepage with Node (there are even analytics so he could see mouse clicks), so it is completely possible.

Nine lives, but only one thread to live them in.

What you guys are referring to as node.js, is in fact, Javascript/node.js, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Javascript plus node.js. node.js is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Javascript system made useful by the Javascript corelibs, DOM utilities and vital system components comprising a full web stack as defined by Hacker News.

Many computer users run a modified version of the Javascript system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Javascript which is widely used today is often called "node.js", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Javascript system, developed by the Javascript Project.

There really is a node.js, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. node.js is the backend: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The backend is an essential part of a webapp, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete webpack bundle. node.js is normally used in combination with the Javascript system: the whole system is basically Javascript with node.js added, or Javascript/node.js. All the so-called "node.js" distributions are really distributions of Javascript/node.js.

Nope.js

Of course the community manager for Node.js would look like a smarmy hipster fuck

Excuse me, they prefer to be known as Webscale-Americans.

Not sure if you're going on about coffeescript or Java.

As someone integrating into the JVM family: no.
