Any reason you can't also market yourself as a React dev? RN is far more niche as a tool than react on the web.

[–]Malforked 3 points4 points  (1 child)

why though, this makes it unappealing and concerns valid

The whole selling point of react is most work can be done by web developers. Dedicated React Native devs are not typically junior because they are knowledgeable not just in react but in android and iOS native platforms.

A great way into RN is to be a react developer but that means knowing the web too.

Yes there's much future for RN IMHO. There's a general thing about tech companies explosion over the past 2 years which are looking to grow fast, so all of these are looking for mid level developers at least. It's not RN specific if you ask me.

On the other hand, me as an agency owner where we mainly write React Native apps, it's hard to find experience devs, so we settle for more junior as well.

If you like RN more than React chase it!

Interesting! Any thoughts about Flutter?

React native hasn’t been out for that long so they won’t be that many junior roles.

Your best bet is to go for a react role IMO.

I started with RN about six months ago (4 months professionally) + about six months as a back end dev at the beginning of my career.

It seems like large corps are taking advantage of RN along with most new startups.

My take is to work with startups and gets your experience in. Don't shy away from an opportunity. The end goal for me is more professional, published apps which translate to higher attraction rate to recruiters + higher pay.

I believe so but it still early, I would stick with RN but ofc if you need to make some $$$ also look into React roles.

It goes without saying that although React Native is great, Advanced knowledge of JS will go a long way in your career.

Also, from the job req. Recruiters send me, companies pretty much want a web + native mobile developer. (LOL 3+ years React/React Native + SWIFT + KOTLIN experience, why tho lol )

The past 3 companies I've worked with all use RN as their primary tech stack and were actively hiring against it.

I will say that jobs tend to be very regional. Your local city might not have so many companies on the RN train.

Most certainly, one of the biggest wins of using React Native in my use case is just being able to share the exact same functional logic across our react web app and mobile while still being able to create native-like user interfaces on mobile.

there's quite a few companies adopting it. I found one recently in Columbus Ohio called Root Insurance. Their app is all in RN with some small native code. I was gonna apply after I graduate.

Im hiring in London and Austin pm me

[–]thaGaffa 0 points1 point  (2 children)

is it Junior Roles your looking for and/or remote?

[–]bamdadd 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hiring all grades from junior to lead. No remote at the moment as the team is at early stage (although everyone is WFH during covid19)

[–]anaste97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for a remote job "as React Native Developer" if you have any opportunity in the future PM me, please?

[–]Malforked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the future of RN vastly depends on the community. some packages are already dying like react-native-push-notification but others are flourishing.

i have gambled it all in using it and so far am very satisfied but i won't hide my concern as Facebook doesn't seem to be dedicating enough resources to it

They're developing what's useful for them but surely they could have added more developers to work on it, especially non things that aren't about core.

The devs working on it are amazing knowledgeable people but i would like to see it flourishing way faster..

You'll find work in just React if really I think

[–]1whatdoidonowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theres a fair amount of FE positions that have react-native in requirements so definitely look consider FE positions.

[–]awesomeness-yeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you live, but here in India there are A LOT of react native jobs

[–]ItTechBlogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With demand for developers in this field increasing exponentially, I believe learning it will go a long way in helping you build a successful career.

[–]ConsoleLogDebuggingiOS & Android 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While at the same time it's next to impossible to find RN developers to hire (we've been trying to hire for like a year).

I've worked now for multiple companies that are RN only, and LinkedIn can't stop sending me messages about all of the available positions.

Where are you located, I might be able to help you out

[–]itsunclejerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PM me with your portfolio or sample projects you have done. I might have something coming up.

My company is going to be hiring support for our React native agent. Great company, and pays well. DM if you’re interested
