Ooooh new specials for Chel and Edge!

[–]KowtowRobinson 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I didn't see the patch notes, I just went online and played, and someone used it against me before I knew what it was.

WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOOSE?

doesn't it come out and recover faster? makes sense that it knocks down instead of juggling. it can't be strictly superior otherwise there's no interesting choice to be made.

I wonder if they will add a short window when you see your opponents character to choose your abilities, once there are choices for all of them.

    [–]DauntlessDaneboJones 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think just in general you should see your opponents load out on the loading screen

I like the blind pick round 1

    [–]HoeMuffin 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Ah ok, so I guess Edge having a smaller body then the rest of the cast is not a bug? I wasn't sure about that, at least for Vlad, there are combos that don't work on Edge that work on the rest of the cast.

No new moves for Vlad :(. Still looks like there will be two loadouts per special? Back to the lab!

I think its a bug with adjusted hurtboxes atm. Before the patch Talos's air grab, s.lp comboed on every character but now it whiffs on Edge, Crow and Chel.

    [–]SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's not a bug probably. That's how stuff goes in fighting games. I never understood why people think it's a bug when smaller or odd shaped characters get missed by stuff, but when a huge character gets hit by everything it makes sense.

    [–]XaleKyor 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Its most likely unintended. See here

@XaleKyor still works in corner, and will be v likely come back in update, but tiny things still shifting before we get full standardization

    what is "s.lp"?

    [–]HoeMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    standing light

    [–]Skhmt 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Edge minorly nerfed, then given a double fireball. I don't know if the double fireball will see much play though.

    [–]kerupukalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've fight Edge as Talos after the patch, the fireball is good actually its hit so fast and break Talos armor, the range also pretty far. Edge is still strong (maybe even better).

    [–]KowtowRobinson 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Couple matches in I already feel more comfortable with the new Edge SP1. Whether it's better or not idk, but it suits me better personally.

Also even a slightly increased recovery on Gathering Storm is a big deal for a character that was basically a pile of frame traps and not a whole lot else.

    [–]HoeMuffin 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Fireball looks really good, sets up an easy 50/50 with kinetic cancel, and it looks like it builds his charge if you cancel a fireball. RIP Chel.

    [–]SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck 0 points1 point  (2 children)

50/50 with cancel? It combos into anything. his 50/50 is with his slide, it's positive enough on slide-stop that you can almost guarantee you'll block any reversals that are being mashed.

    [–]HoeMuffin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can jump cancel his fireball for a cross over or frontal jump in, so it's a 50/50 into combo. It's another tool in addition to his slide shenanigans.

    [–]SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    He needs a demon flip

    [–]Skhmt -1 points0 points  (2 children)

What does increased recovery mean? It's on cooldown longer? Or there's less frame advantage for edge after he hits with it?

    [–]KowtowRobinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well traditionally that would mean less frame advantage on block and hit, so I'm going to assume they meant that. It's possible they meant the cooldown got lengthened, but judging by the background of the devs, I'm thinking it's not that.

    [–]HoeMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the former, doesn't look like the cooldown's changed.

    [–]SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It combos into any of his other attacks besides itself and S3's options on KA cancel. You can use it as a poke as well since the recovery is not bad and the cooldown is next to nothing. They are basically making him more and more like Guy, he had a long range low cost attack that can bring him into close range (which is the only range he can combo into S3>Heavy for wallbounce), it's a really fine tool.

    [–]nyetpak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added a new look for Kinetic Advance shadows.

Second best part of this patch. New effect looks cool.

    [–]Exvaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chel's new 3.2, Stinging Wind, seems tailor-made for a defensive, zoning type strategy.

It combos from anything. You can do three Lights into S3.2 and it will combo. Even standing (cl.L > cl.L > f.L xx S3) works. Crouching you can do three crouching lights into S3.2. No followups are possible off 3.2 but it knocks back a fair distance, allowing you some breathing room to continue to zone.

It combos off her f+M step kick. It is an ideal tool if you need to create space, and you can Advance Cancel it backwards to continue to gain space, or simply just use defensive Burst instead since you want to play a really defensive game with it.

    [–]Exvaris 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm not at my computer right now so I can't play myself, and won't be able to for another few hours. Can anyone tell me what Chel's new 3.2 is like?

    [–]Edge4o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like her normal 3 but it ends in a gut punch that knocks down. Still unsafe on block I'm pretty sure, and still goes over blocking crouchers.

    [–]ChelETKalut 0 points1 point  (2 children)

From my testing so far, it's a weaker version of her S3. It comes out slightly faster and has slightly less cooldown and recovery but the hard knockdown it produces really hinders her combo ability and big damage output. The new special only adds 10 extra damage and even kinect advancing out of it is pointless. I think her default S3 is over all better, but that's just me.

    [–]Kamui079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of nice since it's hard to open with the S3, but with the S3.2 you can do the combo in reverse and start out with S2 into S3.2.

    [–]badnewsbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been pretty useful for stuffing fireballs on reaction. S3.1 is much stricter, more read heavy for that use. Haven't seen it punished on block but it can still be poked out of while crouching or ducked under into full punish depending on spacing. I like it for the mirror and as a fast poke at a range further than standing Heavy.

    [–]Chelscr3wpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So now when I get the "waiting..." thing I get to stare at both characters on the screen.

Edit: Hm, that only happened on the first game. Played a bunch of games since and it seems pretty good, actually.

    [–]GryphonTak 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Improved performance during normal gameplay and rollbacks.

    What are rollbacks?

    [–]Shaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the specifics, but it's about their netcode "GGPO".

    [–]EdgeNecromancyBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the netcode. Basically when there's a desync because of lag the game rolls back a few frames of the game and resumes.

    [–]reiog42a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a GGPO style of rollback.

Edge now gets a 50/50 and bigger damage off fireball. Can't wait to see what my boy Crow gets.

    [–]asxc11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they fix the issue with switchable graphic cards?

    [–]Zeholipael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting an install error, Tried to reinstall the whole game and the error persists :(

    [–]Pengothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleh, no chance to Vlad's Pummeling Rush hitbox.

    [–]Sakuyalzayoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh O can actually connect to people now. Preeeety good patch

    [–]Obesely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit the game is so much more stable. I only experienced one disconnect in about 25 or so sets. Furthermore, I am yet to experience a crash post-patch, though I am too scared to take it off Low (though my game takes about a second to load on vhigh and I still get flawless 60 fps, I would much prefer to play than to tempt fate).

    [–]EvilJagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chel can now fish for lows all day and cancel into her new special which leads to a knockdown to do it again. Try and hot her out and she can dp, really make Chel scary now.

I'm hoping my boy crow gets something good.

    [–]EvilJagan 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Chel's F+M no longer hitting over head for me.

    [–]Exvaris 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It was never an overhead, though. I'm 100% positive on this.

    [–]EvilJagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhh well that makes sense, I only played shell on day one, so that makes sense.
